    I just watched this video of yours, Robert. WOW! Mad props for attempting and conquering the two most dangerous things known to man.
    #1) Climbing the highest Cooper Hawk nest, in the history of Cooper Hawk nests. Even the GoPro was shaken.
    #2) Here's the most dangerous attempt.
    Flying a IMPRINT COOPER HAWK :-(
    Many a good falconers tried... GOD REST THEIR SOULS :-)

    Awesome video. I got exhausted watching that climb. Not for the faint of heart! Hope your bird is doing good this season.

    He's giving it a better chance at surving. If there's more than 3 or 3 the bigger ones will eat all the food so the 3rd one will die so do your research before you hate. ignorant

      Yeah, God’s stupid ‘cause he created hawks so they have too many eyas (babies). God’s crazy like that. He needs man to make things work right.

    I will be releasing the bird after this season. Coops adapt rather quickly back to the wild state.

      The next time you see a wild peregrine falcon you can thank falconers for making that happen.

  • @falconer5830
    @falconer5830 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can’t believe all these ignorant hate comments. Taking the bird increases all of the chicks’ survival rate. Only 80% of passage birds make it to adulthood and this eliminates competition between the two remaining chicks and the one chick he took is virtually guaranteed to make it. Pretty simple principle really. Falconers have never hurt the population of birds of prey, we’ve done a lot more for them than any of you. Next time you see a peregrine, thank a falconer. Thanks to them the peregrine was brought back from near extinction.

    Hey Marshall, neither am I. I chose the cooper because I'm getting a Finnish Goshawk next year and would like some experience with a accipiter. I chose this particular one due to size.

  • @RakuenIV
    @RakuenIV 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you plan on keeping the coops along with the gos? Once a hard imprint, always a falconry bird, in my opinion - ethically non-releaseable. Aside from that, coops are very different from our European Accipiters - far more likely to go for the face, haha. Best of luck with it.

      Falconry actually trains birds and hunts with them and then when they do releasing the birds have more knowledge about hunting. Plus the fact we have to have a license and it's done by the state. State gave him permission to do this.

      Patie Mcmurphy this is true. If you add to more birds to the nest the parents will attempt to feed them even though they laid less eggs. If you take them they just forget about it. They don't count. It's been proven over and over. Birds of prey don't have emotional connection. In a few months the parents will be kicking the kids the heck out of there. There is no family bond whatsoever. Just the instinct to keep the species going. Once the kids learn how to hunt the parent kick them out. Not just of the nest. The entire territory.

    NOOO! Is illegal, poor Hawk!!

    • @hannag4768
      @hannag4768 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Luca Gilardi Really old comment, sorry, I know.
      He's saving the chick by taking it. These chickens are, what the internet would refer to as, savage. They don't share their food, and sometimes push their siblings out of their nest. This Guy saved this bird from a 70% chance of dying.
      Not to say that falconers(?) have saved bird species by doing this. The bird is later realesed into the wild, so it can breed. But it's not unatural for it to return to it's trainer. There's a lot of mutal respect between the bird and it's trainer.

    • @hannag4768
      @hannag4768 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And btw, I'm pretty sure you need a licence for this :)

    • @jasonpatterson8091
      @jasonpatterson8091 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Equally old comment I'm replying to, but oh well. Yes, falconers have definitely saved species doing this. The best example is the peregrine falcon in the US - its numbers were utterly destroyed, first by the extinction of the passenger pigeon and later by development and the use of DDT. Today it's no longer on the endangered species list, almost exclusively due to captive breeding and release of birds by falconers.
      And yes, you definitely need a license simply to possess a bird protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty, as well as a separate permit to take one from the wild.

      Co Cricklewood seeing that 80% of young never make it to adulthood (1st year) I actually gave this bird a chance to make it to adulthood and breed. This kind of conversation is what made it possible for the peregrine to come back after almost becoming extinct.
