    After doing research I found we have two different gophers. You I believe have pocket gophers and I had the striped gophers. After understanding the difference it’s no wonder my celery leaf/rat trap didn’t work. I seen a TH-cam video about pocket gophers and how to get rid of them. He discussed how to understand the tunnels and piles and how to use traps and smoke.
    The gophers we had have a different diet and there wasn’t much for them to eat and apparently they loved the celery leaf.
    Since we got rid of the gophers I have noticed ground nesting bird nests and our gophers would eat the eggs. That could also explain the lack of whippoorwill birds. I can say the whippoorwill and other ground nesters are safe here because if I see a new tunnel-ever-we are on it.
    Those gophers would have to go if I were gardening there. Think Caddy Shack 😅.

      I often think Caddy Shack! Great minds think alike. But the one hard thing is mine don't make pockets anywhere and I will just find what is called the feeding holes once in awhile. But I do inadvertantly find tunnels by walking around and when the ground seems spongy or sinks considerably I know I have just walked on a tunnel. These little rascals are a pain but I know I will be fighting them for the long haul if not forever as they are everywhere and it seems the local coyote population has diminished considerably and could be why the gopher population has grown. But I shall plant in protected raised beds, plant things they don't seem to like and cages.

    Please everyone, we all need to plant milkweed that's native to your area. The Monarchs had the 2nd lowest numbers in Mexico last winter and they're already like 99% depleted.
    For a natural path I put down black plastic and got free wood chips from ChipDrop. And I also have such small lawn areas that I bought a reel mower but have found that weed eating them is a lot easier.

      I planted loads of native milkweed but they didn't make it and I am having a hard time finding started plants. Last year it was easy to find. Not sure why this year is different.

    Hi Pam!!
    Secret Garden is so beautiful! It's vibrant and wild and free. So lovely!
    My two cents... I love your idea of the gravel pathway and framing with boxwoods. 😃 I'm in the same boat. Things are lovely but I'm feeling the need to frame some of my wild areas with evergreens .

      My original plan was to put low growing groundcover between the pavers and have that fill in to choke out the weeds and in the one spot where the elfin thyme has filled in it is working. I think I may be too impatient and should continue with that plan, which will do the job of bringing green and calm to the path. Maybe the turbo thyme, when I go get it, will fill the bill. Though repens is also a fast grower, I may try that one until I get my hands on the turbo thyme.

    Your secret cottage garden looks amazing, its a pollinators dream. Our garden is nearly in full bloom we are waiting on our daylilies, calla lilies, echinaceas, rudbeckias, shasta daisies, oriental lilies and crocosmias to bloom but they are close to blooming.

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse

      I have all those too and some are close to blooming. They really fill in when the ones blooming now fade away.

    Hi Pam. Another lovely video. Your garden is just beautiful. I think those red poppies look just great there as it pulls out the purple blue and pinks in it’s surroundings like the Nepeta and the foxglove.
    Your daisies always do so well. Mine always gets attacked by some small bugs that suck on the stems, leaves and even the buds which results in distorted bloom. It is so frustrating. I’m sorry to tell you that I’m thinking of resorting to taking out my antic can of Raid 😢 Looking forward to your next video. Bye!

      I don't blame you, I found my first Japanese Beetle yesterday and I was so upset about it. They are so destructive and to know they are here now is so aggravating. I am researching all the best ways to keep them under control. I did not find any this morning but you know if you find one you actually have hundreds.

    Hello from Tasmania. Your foxglove has a peloric flower and it is called Digitalis purpurea ‘Monstrosa’. I really enjoy your garden tours especially as it is Winter here.

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This Montrosa occurred by itself, funny how the genetics can appear of their own volition. These are all self seeded from all the others in my garden. I had white ones do the peloric thing last year and this year it is this pink one. Plants always keep me entertained!

    gophers, we call them groundhogs in the Northeast love cantaloupe. Make a trail with little tidbits, cut small. Then put a larger piece in the back of the trap. We caught 5 in my garden last year, 2 this year. Moved the trap to a different area so that the others don't smell the process

      Groundhogs are huge! 😂. And make huge holes. Hope you got them all.

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Groundhogs are definitely much bigger than gophers. A friend of mine that lives not to far from me says he has been having success feeding carrots that have been treated to the gophers and they have been going for it, he has thinned out the population around his place dramatically.

      We don't get any rain during the summer months so irrigation is key for us. My neighbor has a great gray water system he waters all of his ornamental plants with and it works wonderfully. I want to put on in soon but we shall see.

    I just ordered the original Eden and am awaiting on its arrival. Along with sceptered isle and Alexandra of Kent. I planted Gertrude jekyll last year and her scent is very nice.
    Love your garden videos, thankyou :]

    Thank you for the tour, it's funny how we can grow the same plants here in the UK but our climates are really different. Loved the resident humminbird. We don't have them here.

      Thanks for watching! Yes, I am often amazed when I watch British garden shows that certain plants bloom at the same time there while they don't here. My alliums are done long before my roses even think about blooming but there they bloom together. That is why when I do my videos I often remind folks that every situation can differ.

    Pam if you think your’s need some tlc you should see mine.😂 Foxglove is of course also poisonous from its digitalin that alters heart rate thus was used as medication where needed. I’ve seen white ones on my walks and also last one with the huge, rare mutant flower at the tip. Harks back to an early evolutionary stage of the species when all its flowers were like it. Of course I had to TH-cam and have now forgotten the term for the flower. Oh! You’re just showing one in your garden!😃What a coincidence! I love your garden. The best I have is the circle of wildflowers in my front lawn and it’s become pretty fool of ox-eye daisies at least until my seeds take or I transplant some of the thriving camomile from the back garden. I’ve been too busy with hiking/grandkids/poor weather/what-have-you to keep on top of things. I’m pleased my fox-and-cubs and forget-me-nots have done so well. An absent neighbour has envied wild orchids in her deep lawn. It’s good to hear your plans. Not a fan of roses but I’ve seen a neighbours beauty against their white house wall and it’s stunning. No strawberries here yet. My giant poppies are doing well in number of blooms but but a bit pallid and short lasting. Maybe it’s our blasted Scottish weather this year. Thanks for the inspiration. Maybe I’ll garden tomorrow if the rain has stopped and my hayfever has eased. Byefor now!

      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh my, I do wish better weather for you and yes, I have had a hundred and one things get in my way of gardening. But they are fun and important things. I would rather have time for other things and not have the garden be my task master so I accept the imperfect and just enjoy. One thing we don't get this time of year in California is incessant rain. I feel for you.

    Good morning Pam I really enjoyed this video. I learned something new every day from you. No I did not know that Delphinium was poisonous. I have a question for you, since you grow so much fox gloves. When they receive do they flower for you every year? I heard they are bi-annuals… is that true? Thanks Pam 🥰👍❤️ Liz in Oakdale

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When they reseed for me they will bloom the following year as they seed so early in the Summer. But I also have seeded some that will bloom the first year while some others are true perennials, so it depends upon the variety.

    Pam can you transplant cottage type flowers from one place to another or do they prefer to stay put for the season?

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most flowers prefer being transplanted in the cooler months like Fall or Spring and some resent being transplanted no matter what time of year. I do it when I have time and let the chips fall where they may. I do try to avoid it during high heat as they usually have a hard time drawing up moisture before putting down new roots.

    Pam what happened to your Coco Loko rose? Did gophers get it?

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I just planted them in this container until I knew for sure where I wanted them. I am still debating that. Sometime I am polarized by indecision.
