I can remember my uncles running Prentice loaders when I was a kid and when I worked for them. I remember back in the 80s the loader had levers and not joysticks. They also used to pull the trailer out from under it when they moved. I think the last Prentice they bought was in 2003. They also had several HydroAx cutters. They later went more towards Deere and Tigercat for everything. You are spot on about the problems the machine had.
Things do change over the years. Some for the better and some not so much. You wonder how you did it and how it would be so terrible to go back to the old stuff. Interesting Tim. Thanks for showing us the old!!!
I ran a lot of 410 D and EX models. Spent the most time in a self propelled 410D unloading on a paper mill woodyard. Since it was on a carrier it used a single pedal for the right foot to swing, your rocked your foot from front to back. Run it a couple of 16 hour days it would really tire your leg.
Good times on the ol memory lane. We still have a carrier mount 600 prentice still. It's pretty much a yard machine but it occasionally loads or unloads trucks but not to often. Still starts right up though. Great video Tim!
That's cool seeing the old school equipment. I think it would be cool to see a video of you and your whole family sitting around talking about logging and telling stories about back in the day.
Yep they were the stuff back in the day! I remember when they came out with the Joystick controls the old loader hands Didn’t like them at first They were used to the old levers like the D’s had Enjoyed the video Tim ! Y’all have a good one 👍🏻
Great history Tim. If a man could get it refurbished a bit, could you right away grapple saw to that boom? Seems like a good right for a big farm or a hobby logger. Thanks
We are in spruce trying to use a gravity delimber so needless to say I go thru 3 tanks of gas thu the chainsaw, quick question for you, can I put a 050 bar and chain on my 576?
I cut my teeth on a 1996 prentice 410e. With a a 314 ctr delimber. Next to the original prentice 384, they both are my 2 most favorite loaders. The deere 437 is fast, but I believe the ol 410 will still pick up more. Lol
Good video. This brought back a lot of good memories for me. My family has been logging since my grandfather got home from the war in 44 so we've seen a lot of changes in logging over the years. But in 1996 my family bought a 410D Prentice with that same exact delimber and even though I was only 11 years old at the time I can remember my father standing there smiling as he said, "That delimber on the end of that loader is going to completely change the face of logging". LOL. No more working in the pit all day limbing trees. THANK YOU LORD!!!!
If you think of the power swings and quick stops and such it made if you hade that meny hours 2 swings isent un real now im shour they came long way in 25 years
That’s cool looking at that old stuff and hearing the stories about it. Great video
This is same exact loader we have in the woods.💯 It still looks good.
So cool to see the modifications guys have done to older machines

For the age of that machine. It was well taken care of! Catwalks ,steps and body is in great shape. #410
Great video Tim. Love the story telling. 👍
Pretty cool blast from the past

We got a 80s 410c with a 5.9 Cummins on a truck still going strong, a truck driver tipped it off the road
Love old equipment

The old 648 g3 was a perfect skidder. No emissions. I think it would be cool to fab up the old motor in one the l model skidded!
We ran those 410e loaders at the old crosstie plant in Columbus.

It didn’t get much better than a 410 back in the day
This machine is a far cry from the prentis I ran with the levers through the floor... I forget the model but it had a 4-53 Detroit in it...
Lot of iron just sitting around rusting away.
Cut my teeth on a 410d
