Every time I listen to this hymn I felt like crying, indeed, ' He only could unlock the gate of Heaven and let us in', I am just amazed of what Jesus Christ did for me!!!
I played this in Sacrament meeting yesterday.... In our ward because of the pandemic no one sings, the organ just plays till the Sacrament is being prepared...... The quiet Organ in the silence as the Sacrament was sitting in the chapel filled me with so much peace and power. It was like glimpsing Heaven. I love Sundays, and this is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE hymns
My mom recently passed and this was her favorite hymn. Even though I am not a member of the mormon church it still brings me peace to know that she had such comforting beliefs in her final days.
There Is a Green Hill Far Away, no. 194 1. There is a green hill far away, Without a city wall, Where the dear Lord was crucified, Who died to save us all. 2. We may not know, we cannot tell, What pains he had to bear, But we believe it was for us He hung and suffered there. 3. There was no other good enough To pay the price of sin. He only could unlock the gate Of heav'n and let us in. 4. Oh, dearly, dearly has he loved! And we must love him too, And trust in his redeeming blood, And try his works to do.

Oh dearly dearly DOES he love. I can feel that through this hymn. May we enter when the time comes and be clean because of his redeeming sacrifice. My Savior and Redeemer, my Lord, my God…from everlasting to everlasting. There was no other good enough, and he is my friend and your friend. Tis sweet to sing the matchless love of Him.
Each time I watch this sublime rendition of one of our well known hymns, I am moved to tears. Notice how there is only a still photograph which ensures that there are no distractions from the importance of the words and the deeply moving music. "OH DEARLY, DEARLY, HAS HE LOVED, AND WE MUST LOVE HIM TOO...."
This Hymn hits hard for me. It makes me always think about the people from my family ward and ysa ward back in Virginia since now I live in Utah. This is the only Hymn to put me in tears.
3:08 is just completely divine. Since we're not allowed to sing in Sacrament meeting, we listened to this song. And this part in the song just melted my whole soul. They sing with such power - you can't help but to be moved.
Unique words are used in this hymn, which are hard to describe and give me a certain peace. Thank you to all of you dear ones for a good and perfect performance of this hymn.❤❤❤ sincerely❤❤❤
When I was at BYU-Idaho, we had a combined performance with both the BYU Mens Chorus and The BYU-Idaho Men’s Choir. About 350 of us, all on one stage, and this arrangement of There is a Green Hill Far Away was our closing number to the concert. Not a single dry eye in the house. Absolutely incredible!!
Same my family not so good at singing so i decided to play this hymn fir our sacrament at home, fills my heart with the Saviors love, kids sat so revently through out the sacrament, love it so much
And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father, to stand before me, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil-

The hymn tune is in the 1985 Latter-Day Saints hymnal, number 194. The arrangement is by Barlow Bradford. I agree with the other commenters her that the hymn is absolutely beautiful and the arrangement is masterful, and exceptionally well performed here. Soul stirring.
Barlow Bradford arranged it - you can buy the sheet music on his site. It's an ambitious piece; maybe a stake men's choir could pull it off, but I find the tenor parts to be very demanding
or if anyone has any additional information on who arranged it, who owns the rights to it, etc. I've been listening to this since 2001 when I got the conference CDs and fell in love
@doggis thank you for posting this. I used to have all of the music from this session of conference and have since lost it. Do you have access to the piece “Testimony” that was sung in the Saturday morning session? I have been looking everywhere for a copy. Thanks again
Yes! I had to go to the Church History building and check out the audio cds from this conference to then rip all the songs. They don't let you take the cds to check out. You have to sit at desk there and do it. Send me an email at cmetler@gmail.com and I'll send it to you.
I recommend a different arrangement for lyrics this outstanding; the standard version in the hymnbook is serene & moving; this one is...well, dull, slow, & uninteresting for the climactic event in human history. (Not intended as "hating"; just as constructive feedback for improvement).

Wow! I wasn’t expecting a different arrangement. Absolutely beautiful while keeping the reverence this hymn deserves. Well done!

He paid for the restitution of all our losses, just and unjust, and has granted it to us for no cost. He only invites us to change in his grace.
Wow.
nothing compares
Just type "There is a green hill far away bradford" and you'll find your arrangement.
