    Awd is a huge plus for me with Canadian winter best car in this segment if you want more space go for the Mazda 6.

    I criticized the design of this car when it was revealed. Boy was I wrong! The look-back factor on this car is huge! Mazda is arguably one of the car companies with the best-looking line-up. Mazda's biggest challenge in the next few years may be holding on to its design team.
    Thanks for the review!

    That was another great video Scott. Keep up the good work. That 25" legroom is pitiful given the Civic beats out a ton of vehicles with 29".
    Funny that I did just look at one. Personally I found it absurdly cramp for my family when compared to the Civic Hatch, Elantra, and Ioniq, but to each their own. It does drive great.

      I went to the 2019 Toronto auto show to check this car out. Super excited then super disappointed. I couldn't get over how small it felt. Feels like a subcompact interior wrapped in a compact exterior.

    5 stars Scott shantz I find you one of the greatest people who lived how are you doing and the reason why I am a huge fan of you is because of your voice acting of Laval I really did have a good time watching Lego chima.

    So I think I have narrowed it to the Honda Fit, this car, or corolla hybrid. Would love it if you reviewed the Corolla hybrid.... Man these car reviews are some of the best, just love them, keep up the good work

      When driving the Mazda 3 hatch did you have a blind spot from the C pillars? Also how was backing up into a parking spot with visibility in the back? Thanks

    Sat in one and it was very cramped for anyone over 6 feet.
    The interior is surely premium feel, but is a bit form over function. Not enough storage space, and in the driving position my knee kept hitting the side.
    Overall I'll still pick a Civic hatchback over this due to the larger interior and cargo room.

    The Mazda3 hatchback is undeniably attractive. Mazda employs an approach in several of their models (MX-5, CX-3, CX-5, Mazda6, CX-9) employed by automotive designers for nearly a century to suggest potency and performance via a long bonnet and a short boot. (Freud can explain why it's appealing, especially to males.) Inevitably, though, it means sacrificing passenger and cargo room for styling. Whether it's a sacrifice worth making depends on the intended market of each model. For the Miata it's hardly worth mentioning. A two seat sports car isn't supposed to be "practical." For the Mazda3 hatchback it may be only a minor negative for a VERY small family, especially if it's viewed more as a 2+2 vehicle than a practical choice with comfortable seating for 4 or 5 passengers.The impact on Mazda's line-up of crossovers is another story where practicality has considerably greater importance.
    Mazda's decision to offer AWD in the Mazda3 is an interesting one. In most of the US it's more a trendy marketing tool than a critical feature. In Canada, on the other hand it has much greater appeal. A result, of course, of the different climates that most consumers confront in the two countries.
    In fact, AWD vehicles are relatively MUCH more popular in Canada than in the US. For example, VW sells a much higher proportion of Golf R's vs GTI's in Canada compared to the US. R's are more readily available and priced considerably less north of the border. A fully loaded top trim Miata in Canada has an MSRP approximately equal to a Golf R. In the the US, the price difference is at least $6000 (if you can find a Golf R selling at MSRP.) KIA's new Telluride offers both FWD at all trim levels in the US. In Canada the Telluride is available only as an AWD vehicle. And Mazda's CX-9 can be had with FWD only in the lowest trim level in Canada while in the US FWD is offered at every trim level except the highest, most expensive "Signature" trim.
    It's debatable whether AWD offers major advantages in a small car even in a challenging winter climate compared to a FWD vehicle with a good set of winter tires and the weight of the engine over the front wheels. But there's no question that Canadians prefer AWD vehicles and that's good news for the Mazda3 north of the border (as well as in the northern tier of the US.)

      I consider my 20 3 hatch a 2 seater with some room for groceries. I picked it over a Miata as it’s slightly more practical. It would not be a family hauler......
      Savage Geese (another car reviewer) took a 2019 3 hatch AWD off road 2 miles in deep packed snow before it got stuck. Full size trucks sent to rescue him got stuck! Throw on some winter tires and who knows how far you take this car! Very capable....

    The cupholder position doesn't make any sense... unless you have the manual transmission, in which case they are in the perfect position.

    • @buchajo
      @buchajo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works though. 2 large fast food drinks fit comfortably. Having the cup holders behind the command knob as in the CX5 doesn’t work well at all......

    Why is AWD a plus for families? A cramped car with AWD is still a cramped car.

    • @ztekz
      @ztekz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is in Cda and AWD definitely helps get you going especially in harsh winters...even if you’re a family. You can have the biggest cargo room/utility but if in a FWD vehicle the AWD will still have an advantage.

  • @swanblake
    @swanblake 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Way too much money. Get a faster and more usable car in the Golf GTI that has 228hp, virtual cockpit, standard LSD, ECT. Mazda overpriced this and then raised the weight while offering the same underpowered 2.5L which is only exacerbated with AWD

      There is but ok... I have a fwd vehicle and it’s not that great in winters. I’ve been stuck before and couldn’t make it out of my driveway whereas my brothers car that’s awd was able to. Also, he’s able to go on backroads that my front wheel drive car can’t.

    • @chickenceiling
      @chickenceiling 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrMoose-mf1oyWinter tires are better than awd. Also, I can't imagine a sedan with awd be able to take on roads that a fwd sedan can't. If you couldn't take on a road because of your fwd, you likely didn't have enough ground clearance to begin with.

    • @MrMoose-mf1oy
      @MrMoose-mf1oy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      chickenceiling lol I obviously have winter tires during those snowy months... I still get stuck even with them on. I have a 2010 Mazda 3 and my brother has a 2009 Subaru Impreza. Last year, we wanted to go somewhere and we took my car but it couldn’t make it so we turned around. Then we took my brothers car and it made it through with no problem. Also, we ski a lot and on days where there’s snowstorms or something we either can’t go up to the hill or can’t go back down because it’s just too dangerous for fwd. With my brothers car, we’ve never had problems and he’s never been stuck. When you have all four tires working with winters on, it makes a huge difference. I love my car but I wish it was awd

      @@MrMoose-mf1oy in a past winter, I remember being snowed in. My dad's fwd CR-V couldn't get out of the driveway. Not long after we saw an awd Volvo sedan drive right by no problem. It's certainly worth it for people who regularly drive unploughed roads.
