Taemin’s vocal development is something we don’t see very often. It’s very rare. He did not sing and he became the singer he is right now thanks to his extraordinary hard work. Him sacrificing his teens and twenties has really paid off. I’m so proud of him.
Taemin's technical prowess is SO slept on when it comes to singing...
He's leagues apart from a LOT of main vocalists, even, especially in more recent generations
He supports so well and he's back to singing in his true open voice and it's so delicious to my ears
This made me emotional I think all of us who are fans of Taemin (although I'm new) have seen his vocal growth, I remember watching his documentary where he talked about how hard he worked,how people around him telling that he wasnt going to be able to sing
Taemin is truly an example of how hard work can make you perfect.
you know i came straight to you for this video because i know you heard those vocals correctly. The vocal GROWTH. UGH as a vocal snob, THIS IS WHAT I WANNA SEE. He's changed completely from pressing air through his throat with his neck muscles and creating tension to give the illusion of power (i.e. what you were picking up around 7:00) to singing with absolute relaxation in his upper body and supporting from his abdomen and lower body. It looks so much more effortless and the tone is so much smoother now that he's got better air control. he can play with vibrato and straight tone so much more dramatically. I personally think that he spent his earlier days trying to replicate Jonghyun's stronger and chestier vocal style, but now he's just leaning into his naturally light sound and it's just gold. He's been playing with vowels as opposed to the typical all bright/smiley kpop standard which just adds some depth and musicality. You mentioned him bending his knees which is him staying grounded in his lower body to keep the high notes relaxed... I could go on and on honestly this is such a good show of vocal growth and technique. He always was a good vocalist, but the technical control he shows off here really solidifies him as one of the top vocalists in kpop. It's kind of a dying art in kpop these days to prioritize vocals so it's just a fucking treat to see Taemin do it all.

Taemin has such a beautiful voice! I love how this time, he did tv shows that showcase that for his comeback. We love a well-rounded king!! What can't he do?
Honestly few male main dancers have really showed their vocal skills live.
Until now the only ones Who surprised me are taemin and hoshi even tho he hasnt oficially debuted as a soloist hoshi was at lee mujin show singing and he did pretty good hoshi is always showing that he can really Sing no wonder why taemin is his role model.
Like xiumin says singing is the most important .if you cant sing well no Matter how good you are at dancing.
NO but I need to point out how wonderfully technically clean Taemin is and THAT itself is what places him in the rare vocalist range. I honestly think K-pop just started pushing their main vocalists to do high notes without enough of a previous music knowledge and finding a mature approach to singing and musical theory is so fucking refreshing. I think that’s why I lean to NCT’s Jaehyun too. Prioritise working on someone’s vocal instead of pushing it to sound conventionally universally acclaimed but with no real character to it whatsoever.

I'm so happy about this killing voice, he absolutely ate and i have been waiting for years the moment he would do some promo more related to his vocals. People mainly know taemin for his dance and it's beautiful he is so recognized from that point of view but his voice is just as good!!!! I'm particularly happy he was singing rise....that song has a special place in my heart, it helped me during some difficult time and i remember feeling better and hopeful listening to it.
But I'm a bit heartbroken he didn't include heaven and sayonara hitori :'(
I really really love taemin’s vibrato and resonance. It is his voice and his singing that made me stan him. He can conveys emotions with his voice really well too🫶
, Taemin definitely has better songs where he shows off more of his vocal abilities, but I think he played it safe this time (?). For the first time where he only focus on singing, he did very well.
Considering how he started and seeing how far he's come, it's really admirable🤧 and he really worked hard to achieve this
I am super proud of how far he has come Shinee was one of first kpop boy groups and the moment I first saw Taemin I knew he was my bias, I think he mentioned it in a show called the Unit but he was told he was tone deaf when he first debuted so to go from that to the beautiful voice he has now was amazing, he really is one of my top favorite artists!
He has so much more nuance and thoughtfulness in how he performs now. You get more variety and contrast in how he sings than you used to. So cool to see.
Also, I respect how he doesn’t seem to really be embarrassed about this much of his vocal skill development happening very publicly. When people mention how much he’s improved to his face, he mostly thanks them and talks about how much he worked to get to his current skill level. I think, if it were me, it would be hard to not focus on my past skill level and judge myself harshly.

In my opinion, Taemin started to see himself differently, he knows that he has achieved a lot and now he just wants to do what he likes. Regarding Guilty, I just want to point out that we stopped treating the waltz as something spiritually intimate a long time ago and Taemin brings it back, if you know what I'm talking about you will understand because it will explain a lot in his choice

I occasionally hear some strain on his A4's but generally they carry shallow enough support nowadays, his support was extended far further to Bb and occasionally B in the 2012-2015 era, no doubt he was the best belter in shinee at that point and amongst the top 5 or 6 in k-pop, but he did run into some issues after that period (tight/throaty + some jaw tension noticeable around 2015/16) - you can hear it if you compare his Bb4's in 2012 th-cam.com/video/cC-Ji8gGB-k/w-d-xo.html to his B4's here in 2017 th-cam.com/video/V3XFMF4DALc/w-d-xo.html which no doubt has to do with the change in approach to singing and a more breathy/whisper type of singing, but still, unreal improvement, no idol has ever improved so much in an aspect in their career and to be not only one of the best dancers in the industry but vocalists too is unreal.

After a long hard day, I always like to listen to Taemin’s ballads and voice. It’s just so soothing..like everything will be just alright. I love this setlist as it is his best b-sides. Although I was expecting “Soldier” but it wasn’t in… on that note, he has TOO MANY good songs. I literally love all of them.

I noticed a difference in his voice and thought how improved it was but the side by side comparison really blew me away like wow he has come so far as a singer
taemin has always been famous and praised and idolized for his dancing, so him appearing on Killing Voice is such a testament to Vocalist Taemin too. Also, taemin has always been big on all-rounder performance, right, so the songs he picked for Killing Voice also tell us ballad lovers that "i've got songs for you too!" (for me personally, ballads are perfect to accompany me reading angst 🤣)

the only way i could describe taemins straight notes… it feels like its piercing right through your chest. i love those notes the most from him because they feel freezing cold and sharp, like an ice pick, in the best way

I think he chose the songs he was gonna perform for this, to showcase his singing, which is always criminally overlooked. He said some time ago that he wanted to come back with a ballad as a title track at some point to show people he can SING, because he's frustrated by people being surprised he has so many ballads and he can sing so well.
I'm pretty sure Dingo doesn't choose the songs, the artists and their teams do. The song choices for this wasn't surprising to me. He wanted to do Killing Voice to showcase his singing abilities and go beyond what a lot of people think of when they thibk avout Taemin : the dancing and alluring performances. He's in control of a lot regarding his career, I think it was a very conscious choice for him to go on Lee Mujin Service and Killing Voice and focus on singing programs more than performance ones.

I'm 100% sure Taemin and every other artist get to choose what songs they want to sing. In fact, it seems like Taemin purposefully chose songs that show his vocals instead of his popular pop songs. I noticed that too when he appeared in Lee Mujin's show. It seems he wants to showcase his vocals now more than before and I appreciate him for choosing what he believes in rather than what he thinks fans will like.

I agree that the setlist could have more vocals gems. But I still feel like he did showcase his range really well. As someone who's frustated with exo's killing voice with way too many title tracks 😅, I'm glad to see some bsides. Even though it's more ballad-driven

It ain't premiered yet but imma drop my 1 cent. I feel like Taemin needs more confidence in his instrument. I definitely felt uncertainty from him numerous times during this killing voice as it pertains to vocalization... he played it really safe and it left me desiring more especially because I know he is capable of giving more .. I think he needs to get out of his head sometimes and just go for it so idk what he needs but this man is not at his final form yet and should he push pass whatever mental blockage he has going on he's gonna blow us out the water honey.

Interesting!! I felt more of this in his Mujin Service than here, there were some moments I was like YASS! But I do think he does what he needs to maintain a connection to his diaphragm and remain technically proficient !!
The song choices though ... I would've loved something like Clockwork for him to reaaally show off something challenging but it's his first time giving us so much vocally centred promo so maybe it'll come with time!
@@Koko3op it's funny u picked it up in his mujin service performance.. because I haven't watched it as yet but the fact it's being detected otherwise is just solidifying for me that it's a confidence issue. Idk why he's threading carefully around his own instrument or why he isn't comfortable in it as yet but my assumption right now is it's some type of mental blockage. I think he needs to invest in a vocal teacher who's gonna push him and not in the sense of busting his vocal cords 😭😭 (but ik you get what I'm saying)..

I don’t think it’s a confidence issue. He knows what he capable of. Boy can do much crazier things with his voice? For sure, he goes off on concerts, but from my pov he is just playing safe as it’s his first time doing vocal promos. He even said he was nervous about it.
Taemin has stated he was nervous about doing all the live shows showcasing his vocals. For a person who had no lines in a debut song to being this accomplished as a artist I applaud him for doing this. He sounded great to me and evoked some feelings I had not had in previous renditions of these songs. As for song choice Shawols submitted songs we wanted him to sing and Taemin chose ones he felt he could convey more of on Killing Voice. I’m not knocking anyone’s opinions but I’m proud of Taemin for doing these live vocal performances shows. Oh his vocal coach is the one of the most prominent in SM and works wish D.O and Baekhyun. Taemin is only 6 months removed from military service and improved his vocal’s tremendously.

You all are an annoying bunch of people like Taemin already gives 200% more than most other artists and you all still aren't satisfied 🙄 Let him do what he is comfortable with and appreciate what you get instead of just demanding and complaining. Also only very few solo artists have the body of work Taemin does like the amount of songs he produced over the years is actually insane and it would be hard to satisfy everyone no matter what. Like I see songs recommended in the comments and they aren't even my personal fave by him either or at least my recommendation list would look totally different too 🤷♀️ Not to mention this is also promo to show him to people who might not know him as much as his fans do. Even nervous he showed quite well what he is capable off imo.

You're a reactor that I can tell doesn't just listen to title tracks. I can tell you've heard his albums multiple times, because only a true Shawol knows Ace. For me I'd love for SHINee to do a Killing voice (Once Jinki comes back of course.), but if Taemin got a part 2 to Killing Voice or another medley I would want to say, he should do Artistic Groove, Sad Kids, Me and You (I loveeee that song), and Stone Heart.
I would love to hear SHINee do "Tell me what to do" and I would love to here Jinki cover Y Si Fuera Ella (Only cause he as vocal power)

@@Koko3op Ooh I totally agree. Clockwork is a fave. I’m not ashamed to say Taemin doesn’t miss. I’m not big into new K-pop since I’m older and only listen to my faves. But Clockwork pairs well with Strings. I’m happy that Taemin got to showcase his singing. If he ever gets another chance, his sexy ballads would pop!
Though I agree he’d do well with his faster paced songs.

You're complaining about song choices but I think you just need to dive deeper into his discography cause a lot of them were fan favourites... Also what would be a better way to showcase his VOCALS than by singing the ballads? You can clearly hear songs like Move don't give him a lot of space to do that
He has other ballads he could’ve done that I also mentioned but it’s fine he still did well and I enjoyed myself clearly.

Fun fact: how Taemin feels about his vocal art versus dance art. He didn't have a choice but was cast as the SHINee main dancer, but in an interview, I think it's mid 2017, he said he has always seen himself as a singer first dancer second, but he went with the flow anyway because that's what SM/ fandoms saw him. I feel that, this album he is shifting the focus on his vocals, and I'm not complaining at all.
I enjoy qualified vocal ART appreciators' take on Taemin's singing (I can't stand those paint by number ranking sorts). As to this cb, I love Guilty for the vocal arrangement, delivery and dramatic depth. Only gripe is my usual pet peeve: eye-rolling elementary grade English lyrics.
Style wise I think you'd probably like Not Over You, and maybe Blue...
When I saw Taemin on Killing Voice, my first thought was “WTF, Jinki doesn’t get one, but Taemin does?!” And Taemin is MY bias. But Jinki is the home wrecker plus my guy is sick right now.😢
However that isn’t to bash Taemin cause he did amazing as per usual. As a 30+ fan. I’m just being honest.

In July during his birthday stream he was asked if he would do a killing voice video and he said that if he did, he will try to make it very general public friendly and recently he mentioned that his ballads aren’t popular compared to his other songs so he wanted to show these songs. also it’s kinda his first activity to focus on singing as a soloist so it make sense to take it a bit safer in song choices
I personally love his ballads so I was shocked and happy when he did them some of them
Hypnosis is kinda like a fan song at this point it’s one of his default tracks in setlists in everything and Rise is insanely popular, one of his best songs in my opinion.
