This is one interpretation of their music video:
Stell (Yellow) - he's like in the maze and confused where to go but at the end, he open the door that reaches his destination
Sejun (Purple) - unsure how he's going to write his feelings since he keeps on tearing pages of paper but at the end, he wrote something that his heart desires.
Ken (Black) - he's simply within his comfort zone (the box) but at the end he did the backflip and the box frame collapsed making him open to new feelings and out of his comfort zone
Justin (Green) - he's with the frames because he wanted to fit in but the the end he dropped/the frames have been removed because he already accepted who he was
Josh (Red) - the famous string of love that keeps on holding on to the person you love

Yes that's right. Let me just add too the red thread you were asking.
As per Josh he is very dominant and doesn't want to be controlled by something/someone (that explains why he looked mad in his part). But because of love, his outlook in life has changed. ^^

I guess the fact that because some of them started in kpop cover groups, appreciates kpop, and they belong to a Korean company that promotes Korean-Philippines culture collaboration, are some of the reasons why they can speak Korean or somewhat have that kpop-ish vibe but yeah, they even perform in front of Koreans in Korea... They can even sing Trot music.. Haha so cute! I do appreciate them IN and OUT. 💙💙

Hi Jessica, one avid fan since day 1 i saw your vlog. Amazed how beautiful your contents are. You’re so detailed when you try to make your comments or reactions. Yes SB19 so far are not becoming famous only in Philippines, so far Billboard already been acknowledging their presence. As of this time their are on #6 spot for Billboard Social 50 , #21 for Billboard Emerging Artists. And i just wish that they will be more famous literary asianwide and even worldwide. Ofcourse no one can beat BtS right now but for Sb19 as long people can appreciate them was a big thing for them. Please keep it up and continue to promote Philippines Cultures and traditions for Korean people will appreciate. I wish you can also make a vlog how How Philippines have a strong since way back Korean War, which majority of Koreans not even aware of how Philippines play a vital role on helping Korea to fight and keep for your freedom. Again more power

They give so much kpop vibe in their mvs now because their producers and their management are mostly koreans. Tatang Robin (their manager) mentioned in a presscon that the reason that they are managed and produced like kpop groups is because they don't have connections to filipino producers. The only way for their music production to be done is by Tatang Robin's connection like Han Tae Soo and others.

There's so much meaning behind this MV (ALAB). The way Stell can't find the way out at first but finds it at the end. Sejun couldn't write out his feelings but ends up writing it anyways. Josh is stuck because of red strings and ends up releasing himself. It's the same with Ken being inside the box, Justin finally lets go of the frames in the end too.
The whole thing just explains that a person should be able to get out of his/her head and actually confess his/her love to the person.

I have listened to old groups (xlr8, boybandph, popgirls and etc., who i may not know r.i.p.) that tried to make p-pop relevant but sort of failed in the long run, no one comes at par with SB19 when it comes to polished songs, choreography, production and overall group branding. They're almost 2 years in and Go Up was literally that song that made them big, this just shows that Filipinos can actually expand their musical genre for OPM (Original Pinoy Music) local fandoms are really supportive these days as well because of kpop (if not the obvious) influence. And now with them being the only Boy Group consistently making breakthroughs after each release, sky is gonna be the limit to reach whatever they dream of.
and also, keep safe Jessica! :D

Their introduction is "Get in the Zone, BREAK! Hi we are SB19!"
They are PPOP idol group trained under a Korean Entertainment Company, ShowBT Philippines, but they write their lyrics in Tagalog (Philippines Language) and they also choreograph their song themselves. The company also let them compose their own songs.
SB19 can speak english well as it is our country's second languange. They also studied basic Korean to have a better communication with their staffs, especially their dance instructor and CEO. (because most of the staff are Filipinos also)
Despite being under a Korean company SB19's goal is to promote Original Filipino Music (OPM)
In fact, SB19 means Sound Break 19. Sound Break because their goal is to "break into the music scene with their new and fresh sound" as they are the first Filipino group to do this kind of style and 19 as representation of the collaboration between Philippines and Korea. It is our country code 63 and 82... 6+3+8+2=19.
They are on Billboard Social 50 at #6 (peak 5) and Billboard Emerging Artists at #21 and the first Billboard chart they land on is Next Big Sound at #6

  • @patr0clus
    @patr0clus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

In response to your question, I would have to say this really is the first time this style of music has become mainstream for the Filipino audience. We rarely have boy groups or girl groups here that really skyrocket, mostly because those groups that get made almost always consist of aspiring artists who haven't put in the work but are considered attractive enough to get a headstart. Original Pinoy Music (OPM) sound is usually rock bands and this style SB19 has is completely fresh to the mainstream Philippine audience.

Sejun (leader) - main composer of the lyrics but all of them shared their idea.
Stell (main vocal) makes the choreography together with Ken (main dancer) but all of them again, shared their idea that sometimes they clashed but it's a good thing to make their dance better.
Josh (lead rapper) and Justin (youngest) are the visuals of the group who attract people by their charisma and looks. They will let us more curious to their group and be interested to other members. However, all of them are bias wreckers. 😅

Interesting group, as they develop with the successful KPop training system, I hope to see them incorporate more of the aspects that had put the Philippines among the best in the world of international Hip Hop stages since the 2000s. The KPop influence had actually provided a platform to showcase the group dance prowess in the Philippines that had actually been more of a niche art locally

Here in the Philippines, back then, as far as I know we actually have a few groups of our own, but they're really old now, the concept of boy bands was familiar to us.
TMI: 2nd gen kpop was a bop to us tho. Some of us, from way back (i guess up to now) were fans of SuJu, SNSD, 2ne1 and some 2nd gen kpop groups.

If you watch their vlogs, you'll see how much of a character Justin (the youngest) has. 💙 😁
They know basic Korean. Btw. So they could better communicate with their CEO and other staff.

I'm not really sure if you guys remember XLR8 but they were a boyband that was somehow KPOP influenced too. They debut in 2013. Not to compare at all but I don't think this is the first time we had a style like this. But SB19 is on a whole other bar though. They're the whole package and are on international charts. They placed PPOP on the global map.

Sejun's name is Sejun because of his surname which is Nase.
When he's still in highschool, there were times that they're saying their names from surname to name.
His full name is John Nase, and backwards, Nase John. Which (according to him) sounds like (Na)Sejun. Yep. That's likely it.

I bet a kpop style, pinoy girl group would be a hit here in ph, seeing how popular kpop girl groups are already not just to kpop fans. Momoland, blackpink, twice and (2ne1 in the past) are all well known groups by the public, almost entering the mainstream. Like a random guy wouldn't feel shy saying he likes girl groups.

Their were a lot of english in some of their songs, because in Phillipines taglish (combined Tagalog and English) are always used and im happy that they applied that to their songs
