When installing the side markers and using acetone when you have a bound neck how do you stop the acetone from messing up the binding.. I just did the binding, and next step is fret dots and side markers.
You hit on a great point. Just because something works for one person doesn't mean another will have the same result or easier. The trick is to find what works for you. Great video Matt.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. We are working on growing the channel it seems slow sometimes and other times I'm amazed how many people have subscribed.
Man I can't get enough of you guys. I'd rather watch an entire playlist of Texas Toast Guitars than anything on TV. 👍 Nice job! Please keep it up. Now enough of the bullshit talk lol. Thanks, yall! We all really appreciate it.
Dang .. I've totally forgotten the acetone trick..... I've been using super glue for a while and always have the drip, cleanup issue.... thanks for the reminder...!
Matt. This may have already been pointed out. I noticed, having viewed many of your videos, that there are many who give you a thumbs up. And rightfully so! I do!! My guess is that the lone wolf who finds you detestable must be from Fender Custom Guitars. 😝 Thanks for the fretboard tip!
Hi Scott, you may be right but I don't think anyone at Fender knows who I am. I'd guess it is some 13 year old kid on some lame forum. Thanks for watching
Hi Tim, I steal stuff from a lot of video channels. I do watch Garand Thumb but not very often... oh, and I have a cal.30 M1 rifle but never had a Garand Thumb :)
This must be the 4th or 5th TH-cam post I have seen from luthiers who think that side dots are nicer than face dots because they don't like the look of face dots. I'm a guitar player, if I don't have some very clear indication of where I am on the neck, I get lost (maybe I'm a bad guitar player). Whatever, a guitar is for playing and I don't care if a luthier thinks it isn't pretty, but I won't buy a guitar without face dots or inlays. Guitars are practical tools, not ornaments.
As a traditionalist musician, I'm seriously offended by your hurdy gurdy slander. Just kidding I'm a guitarist in a stoner band and I think your a funny guy.

Very nicely done! Just did a dot inlay job and used the ole eyeball center trick for the sides. Worked out great, thanks!

Thanks for watching my friend
When marking out for side dots i do the same damn thing you do Matt...by eye. Never failed me !
You know it, got to take our time and let it flow. You know how it goes, you can over think it sometimes
Your videos are excellent... deserve way more viewers and subscribers. Cheers Matt

4:13 ... what did you say?! A little bit what?! 🤣
Excellent, thanks Matt !
Glad you liked it Pete
This video was perfect timing! I'm just getting ready to do this on a cigar box guitar! Thanks for the tips!👍😎🎸🎶
Oh, right on.
Glad to help out
Whats your nut width? Does that metal 1/2" rulr give you a dot that is between strings ?
Standard for us is 1.6875, I don't really know if it does or not, hahaha
I guess it would depend on the nut, I'm sure it gets in the way along the line.
Dang

It won't let you down Chris, thanks for watching
Matt I want triangles on the side of my DD... You rule man
Got to get me some of those triangle drill bits. I bet we could find a really small punch that was three sided.
@@TexasToastGuitars punch! haha
Try to find an Indonesian-built Squier Strat -- they drop the dots in centered on the fretboard to maple glue line. Almost as a challenge.
Chris likes to do that. It looks cool
I hate super glue for guitars.ive got in so much trouble using SG on guitars
There are some times when it is the best option... I'm still waiting to see what that time is.
I hate doing side dots..half a mm off and crap
Matt.
