Hahaha! I’m just waiting for you guys to read the lyrics and finally work out what this song is actually about. When I first listened to the album (back in the 80s), this was the only track on the album that I really hated. But over the years, I have learned to appreciate the biting satire on 80s society - and the clever techniques in the production.
dont think people dislike it i think they just think it isnt among their strongest songs..and i agree..however to say its terrible or anything is totally unfair, it isnt terrible, just not one of their strongest songs i dont think. I do love the ending though!
i belong to the minority who likes this.Sounds more like early Abba but with more sophisticated storytelling if you search behind the surfaced humouristic words.
Check out Benny anderssons first band the hep stars ,whith old swedish classics like , cadillac , malaika , lilla sofi , shes a sunny girl , among others , but in the 60 s , the front guy was Svenne hedliund, benny was the guy who played the organ
I really like this song! It’s actually a funny song. This is the last time that Bjorn sang lead for ABBA. I like the wedding march ending. Please react to Slipping Through My Fingers with Marissa. You’ve reacted to it before but by yourself.
We have to be very, very grateful that ABBA did not get very famous in the USA; if they had done so, they too had been destroyed by the Big Maffia in the states. So glad that they were held back in their own country, Sweden. In that way, they could keep their pristine and genuine and clean and down-to-earth attitude!
A light- hearted song, but musically wonderful. Your review of it has given it new life for me since I first got the vinyl LP on Christmas Day way back when The Visitors album was released in 1981. Long before a lot of newer ABBA afficiados were born! Great to see their music living on. 🥰
Frida and Agnetha's chorus gradually increasing in volume until they are louder than Bjorn in the refrain is a neat touch 😁this is another of the uptempo songs on The Visitors. some of the other songs, while employing their great voices and awesome instrumentals, left me nearly catatonic as a teenager. case in point: Like An Angel Passing Through My Room? Slipping Through My Fingers? see, before they invented the phrase wtf, all I could do was stare blankly with my mouth hanging open. then as soon as the stylus swung to rest, The Visitors went back into its jacket and was replaced by Arrival, The Album, Voulez Vous, the compliation albums, ANYthing else 😵💫
The song that divides ABBA fans. Some even feel it should have been left off the album in favour of Should I Laugh Or Cry. Maybe they opted for Two For The Price Of One to add a little light-heartedness to the album, although I don't think it's a happy song. It's essentially about a lonely man trying to find happiness. The intricate backing vocals by the ladies are awesome and enhance the song greatly.
I've been listening to ABBA practically from the beginning. This has been one of my favorite songs for decades! I just love the humor of the song. I'm looking through your videos. If you haven't already reacted to it, check out "If it Wasn't For the Nights". I actually found your channel from your BTS reactions. I'm relatively new ARMY, but I love those guys! If you haven't watched it yet, check out Dionysus. To get the best experience of it, you should watch the 2019 MAMA performance of it. There is a short version that is just the Dionysus performance (4-7 minutes) or the version that is their complete performance for the award show (37 minutes). The complete performance will blow your mind! You will have to keep reminding yourself that this was for an award show. It's more like an elaborate mini-concert. ABBA and BTS are my favorite groups! Thanks for reacting to them!
I've all way's loved this song, it sound's just like Under Attack, with that plinkie percussive piano, and pluckie bass line. The vocal arrangement's are out standing! Thank you!! Awesome reaction video!!👍🥰
Its a lovely bit of entertaining fluff ... that does not really belong on the visitors, but then again neither does " Head over heels" in my opinion. Abba are masters of the jaunty pop tune, but the visitors was a lovely bleak cold War album that would have continued its dark themes without the aforementioned tunes.
Great song. It came out on “The Visitors” album which was a masterpiece…and also much darker than any of their previous albums. The songs on this album, “The Visitors,” “Two for the Price of One,” “When All Is Said and Done,” “Soldiers,” “One of Us,” “Slipping Through My Fingers” were, in all cases, deeply profound.
Guys, thanks for the reaction. I had almost forgotten everything about this song (must have been at least two decades since I last listened to it). But when you started the song the lyrics came back instantly and I could sing along😄
The part you describe as 'the parade' part is really meant to highlight the comedy part of the story; the man has been had - lumbered with the girl's mother too! LOL - Two For The Price Of One! 🙂
I have had a love hate relationship with this song since I first heard it way back in the day. Yes, it's clever and quite whimsical and I love the vocal harmonies and overlayering and that great brass band ending. But I still feel it was just a wrong song for The Visitors album and out of place and it detracted rather than added to the overall album.
@Marvin MQZ Or even better SILOC too.Original vynil had 9 songs instead of 10. SILOC could have been the perfect closer of side A imo right after Soldiers.
I like this one, a lot! Full of surprices. Suggestions for coming reactions: Live version of ”He is your brother”, #Thank you for the music - Doris Day mix”, have you done ”Whatch out”?
The chorus with the girls definitely saves this song from being one of the lower rated ABBA songs on the list. The chorus production and arrangement is amazing. The rest of the song and the joke ending is really just meh. Not sure why it was chosen over the other two great songs that were left off.
Tyler, some months ago you made some reactions alone. I wonder if Marissa had the opportunity to hear those songs and rate them. I'm interested on "Slipping through my fingers", "My love my life", "As good as new", "One of us", "if it wasn't for the nights".....
i think she watched some of my own reactions, but i do know that she listened to most of if not all of them! you might have a chance to hear about it on our abba wrap up video :)
"When i kissed the teacher'?There's a lovely official video to this that got filmed in a supposed school classroom.Agnetha and Frida shine out fine as schoolmates.
Glad you did not cuss the song's subject like some fans do . I really like it, mainly due to the live version out there, which Bjorn sings it quite sensitively and sadly .
Behind its deceptively humouristic storytelling this deals with the devastation of a man's everyday lonely boring life.Original demo i've heard has more harsh lyrics and points out better this man's inner devastation.
Lonely Bjorn, responds to an ad for a threesome, only to find out the 'other' woman is Alices' mother after he agrees to meeting! The song is comic relief on an album with heavy subject matter, along with 'Head Over Heels'. The chorus on "Two For The Price Of One" is amazing, love the vocal arrangements, the bass line, and the mischievous keyboard rift beneath it. I wish the chorus featured more in the song as the verses are kind of meh.
Typical ABBA to have intricate harmonies on what is the silliest song on the album. A story of a railway station cleaner who thought he was going to get a threesome and found it was a woman and her mother - hence the jokey tune at the end, which I think is a musical way of saying 'ha ha what a fool he was'. Must be some sort of Scandinavian humour.
a very odd song totally saved by the Abba ladies. why they chose this over other way better songs for The Visitors is a mystery - B & B are geniuses but they did fumble the ball sometimes.could have been such a better sing with different lyrics.. it let down the whole Visitors album
I think you missed the whole joke of the song because you were talking as the whole song's joke was explained. Then the marching style ending started. Tyler, sometimes you talk too much at the wrong time. The punchline of the song is "I'm sure we will be perfect for each other, and if you doubt it you'll be certain when you meet my mother." Hence, two for the price of one.
multi-generational households used to be more common than today. long ago, if you married a woman and her mother was widowed, it was considered noble to take her mother in and care for her as well. your kids would have a full-time grandmother on the premises, you and your wife wouldn't have to worry about hiring a sitter, and the MIL wouldn't be lonely. it was a great arrangement when it worked. (sort of like the book of ruth in the Bible)
Lol The whole song is a set up for the ending "joke" which you have seemed to completely miss. That is why there is the "circus" music at the end. It's to celebrate and highlight the "punchline" which, again, you seemed to completely miss. Lol I like this song a lot but I never really felt it belonged on this album. It really disrupts the flow and magnificence of the other tracks. Why on earth would you leave Cassandra off the album in favor of this song. I don't get it.
Cassandra was not recorded until August 1982 while The Visitors album was released at the end of November 1981. The only other finished song they had at this point was Should I Laugh Or Cry and that ended up as a B-side only because B&B felt the verse and the chorus didn't fit together.
this is indeed an odd song that made it for whatever reason on the album The Visitors.. maybe for the mix. But it sticks out negatively with all the other songs... it sounds a bit dated and more like ABBA from 1973... same goes for "You Owe Me One"... instead they should have included "Should I Laugh Or Cry".... the chorus though is really catchy and the harmonies are indeed great and a very good melody almost classical related.. but the verse are doing nothing to me.. unfortunately even after 40 years of hearing, it did not become any better ....... and the end of course is an sort of ironic musical backslash that he did not get two hot ladies for the price of one, but the daughter and the mother included which is probably an annoying elderly lady.... so he was not rewarded with a sexy sax outro, but with an oldfashioned humpa humpa song...
The last part didn't ''come out of nowhere'' if you had heard the punchline in the lyric. I'm sure you will get it when you read them. I'm not a lover of this track to be honest.
Aww. Saying awful and trash might be a little overboard. It is still ABBA, after all. The music melody and vocals are still good. I would definitely agree that ditching those other 2 songs for this one is an odd choice, at best.
Dudes, did you miss the twist at the end? Two for the price of one...a girl AND HER MOTHER!!!
Hahaha! I’m just waiting for you guys to read the lyrics and finally work out what this song is actually about. When I first listened to the album (back in the 80s), this was the only track on the album that I really hated. 'for the priiiiice of ooooone'....what a fine unison of the girls voices while fading out.Thank you Tyler for pointing it out.(he!he!)
It’s nice to know you don’t hate it because so many people dislike it. I think it’s great personally.
dont think people dislike it i think they just think it isnt among their strongest songs..and i agree..however to say its terrible or anything is totally unfair, it isnt terrible, just not one of their strongest songs i dont think. I do love the ending though!
It is disliked by many sadly but the vocals ~ especially the harmonies are amazing and the twist ending is funny!
I love it as well as its bittersweet message.
i belong to the minority who likes this.Sounds more like early Abba but with more sophisticated storytelling if you search behind the surfaced humouristic words.
The best harmonisation of any song IMO
I love this song so much. All those layers, the harmonies and the rhythm. So good. And the funny little story line.
The beauty of the song is in the lyrics and the fanfare ending.
The last bit of the song 🎵 the band playing = an old Scandinavian wedding march . ...🌈💚⭐
The chorus, this harmonies. Is magical. The live version at Dick Cavett show is fantastic.
I love this tune, and I love this reaction. The storyline is hilarious, chaotic in the best possible way 😃
Check out Benny anderssons first band the hep stars ,whith old swedish classics like , cadillac , malaika , lilla sofi , shes a sunny girl , among others , but in the 60 s , the front guy was Svenne hedliund, benny was the guy who played the organ
One of ABBA’s bass lines, in the chorus.
I really like this song! It’s actually a funny song. This is the last time that Bjorn sang lead for ABBA. I like the wedding march ending. Please react to Slipping Through My Fingers with Marissa. You’ve reacted to it before but by yourself.
Great suggestion Francis!! That song definitely deserves a duo reaction!! Hope they follow through!!!
So nice to see your faces shining and enjoying while you are watching this .thanx!Glad you happened to like it.
I really like this song. Not one of my favorites but you pretty much have reacted to most of them. Lovers live a little longer is another great one.
I discovered this song together with you and had same reaction! Really great song! Thanks for sharing!
glad you got to enjoy it with me! thanks for watching!
The end of this song is like Chiquita. 🎹🥁🎷🎺🎸
Thanks always for share🙏🏼
this has different melody and instruments used to Chiquitita. But yes both songs had a pompous orchestral outro.
I love this song! Love it to bits
We have to be very, very grateful that ABBA did not get very famous in the USA; if they had done so, they too had been destroyed by the Big Maffia in the states. Never felt it should have been left out because it fits in the multi rhythms of that album.. The theatrical quality of the album.
Abba - Hasta mañana ,, " Great song
The flashback from old era, since two years BB sings the lead in their last studio album.

Ahh.... Vines! the TikToks of their day! 👍
The circus music at the end makes sense when the punchline of the joke is delivered “you’ll be certain when you meet my mother…”
I know what you mean about the scenes in your head. I do that too when I listen to certain songs that I love.
This is not your typical song lol. The ending is basically the equivalent of posting “🤡” after being fooled. You should totally read the lyrics 😂
oh trust me we do in the aftershow
@@TylerCreatesContentagree Tyler you do ❤
It's one of my favorite. I'm a big fan of ABBA❤ So glad somebody at your age openly give it a try to listen to this old music.
