Remember when I said music from the 30's, 40's, 50's and early 601's couldn't compare with music today. Here is the information on this amazing song. The Platters did a magnificent job, look at the elegance and class. "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" is a show tune written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for the 1933 musical comedy Roberta. The film adaptation was done starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in the film by the same name, Roberta in 1935. Some of the most romantic beautiful music was written in this era. This by Jerome Kern, just one of many composers, like George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter and of course the amazing Irving Berlin, including one of his most famous. "White Christmas."

When my mother played the Platters, i didn't get it. All these years later, seeing music going downhill, I appreciate the 30s, 40s, 50s, more than then.

Aren't they fantastic? This song was my favorite by them when I was a kid and Great Pretender is another favorite. Just like the Righteous Brothers they sounded even better live than on the recorded versions. Thank you for bringing back this memory. My mother had all their records but I would play this one over and over.

This magnificent group had no technology or computes to make them sound good like today. They took the time and valued their God given talents rehearsing and perfecting their voices and musical ability, and Perfect it they did! They reach all the way to the bottom of your soul and awaken or deepen your ability to love and let love pour out to The One in your life. Just look at their presentation. Young men wearing impeccable suits looking so debonair, and that young lady, such beauty and class. It is only matched by their angelic voices! Thank you for this post Sheray! Blessings Always!
    Just a little trivia....
It's surprising how many groups in the 50's and 60's achieving 'hits' with songs originally composed in the 1930's. "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" is a show tune written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for the 1933 musical comedy Roberta.

I think that's Herb Reed signing. I use to see Herb Reed and the Platters touring in the 70s.

I grew up listening to The Platters, you can understand how those my age were blessed to live in a better America and that todays' "music" is terrible. There is a colorized version of this. You should spend 10 bucks and order their greatest hits on CD. You are really getting a musical education, girl!

Hello Sheray ! Once again thanks for reacting to Jack Savoretti, I really appreciate that and loved your reaction. Would you also react to my other Jack Savoretti suggestioh (Vedrai vedrai Live from Venice 25-07-2018) ? And I have another suggestion for you :
I saw that you haven't reacted to Aurora yet, so my next suggestion will be :
Aurora - Lucky (Live at Nidarosdomen) ! A bit of information about this song : She wrote the lyrics at the age of 9 years and the lyrics are so deep and meaningful... you should really check them out, as well as this special performance... and I guarantee you, you'll be mesmerized again... and speechless !
Best wishes from Germany : Gerry
