Elvis was not just a great singer, entertainer and musician across the board, but a man of deep conviction. Few people know or acknowledge this performance for its true meaning to Elvis. Sources say he rehearsed and sang it so many times he became hoarse before he felt he was worthy of presenting it to the world. The cut that was aired, depicted his raw emotion and expression of the pain and angst he felt after so much rehearsal. His belief in the message of this song was so great he refused to ever perform or sing it again in public because it was so important to the world. He believed that money should not be made from it.

You are cute. I watched Elvis for the first time when I was 12 in 1956 on TV. He was shockingly wonderful. parents, teachers and preachers wanted him banded because he was shaking his body. Their deaths hit Elvis hard, and he wanted to do a tribute to them, The writer of the song, Earl Brown, pulled some of the elements of the song out of Martin's famous 1963 speech, "I Have A Dream'
Nice reaction. Elvis and the general image of Elvis are two different things. Elvis' versatility is unparalleled. This was one side of him. Besides his musical qualities, he was a really good guy.
Elvis is still popular then and now .Nobody in this world has supercedes Elvis voice, looks. Charisma and a generous heart. Please react to one of his songs recorded on stage in Las Vegas. " Suspicious mind. "
He sang this song after MLK was assassinated. And, another interesting item, Whiney Houston's mother sang backup for Elvis. Elvis was very connected to the black community.
This song also encompassed the assassination of Robert Kennedy which Elvis & producer-director Steve Binder saw on the TV news when it happened. But the song involved much more -- it was because of the turmoil in the world @ time -- assassinations that occurred some yrs. prior, & the raging Vietnam war -- a song with the hopes of having a world of peace & harmony. Regarding Whitney Houston's mother Cissy, just to clear up any misconceptions, Cissy Houston was with Elvis for just 5 weeks in 1969 from July 31st to Aug. 28th when she left to be at home w-her children.
It's one thing if someone doesn't like his music, but when someone says they don't like him, it's usually because they are totally misinformed about him and have believed all the distorted images and false narratives of him that has been out there. But whenever someone dig a little deeper to find out what he is all about and research his history, they realize just how misguided they were in their image they had of him. He was a fascinating human being. So good for you for checking him out, even though your parents don't like him, and making up your own mind. Discovering this great artist and his music is never disappointing. He has a vast music catalog, and his voice and style constantly changed over the years from the 50s to the 70s.
I remember this performance like yesterday. 68 was a tough year we lost MLK and RFK the cold war was at its peak and Vietnam was full blown. When he finished my siblings and I looked at each other and my parents and not a word was spoken. It was the song of hope we all needed and this song is needed again thank you for reviewing it.

Makes me happy that a young person that never saw Elvis is impressed by his voice. You picked the most emotional Song Elvis Ever performed. He was exhausted at the end, he put is heart and soul into this performance. This song was written for him to honor Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy that were assassinated. MLK was a civil rights activist and he is known for his I have A Dream speech. You said you didn’t know Elvis music because your parents didn’t like him. I was 14 in 1956 when I first saw Elvis on TV. I still get goosebumps when I listen to his beautiful voice. He left us a huge legacy, you will be blown away with the diversity in his music. Please continue to react to Elvis. I can’t wait to see you go down the Elvis Rabbit hole. Maybe your parents will join you. He died at 42 and his career spanned only two decades. There are many documentaries that show his humanity. He recorded over 700 songs, was in 31 movies. Start at the beginning 1956-58. Went into the service 1958-60. Returned from serving in Germany and continued his career in the movies for eight years. Other memorable concerts 1968 comeback special, that’s the way it is 1970, Aloha from Hawaii and his last concert 1977 two months before his death.🥰🥰🥰💕👍
My Parents were both born in the early 50's. The women on my mom's side of the family were devout Elvis fans. so it makes me feel very nostalgic hearing this. I heard from more scandinavien people that Elvis is not such a big thing as in the rest of the world. I Can't argue with culture. (: However he truly was a very gifted artist and a decent human being. Although he spiraled out of control in later years. All i can say is : Drugs are bad M'kay...
@marybrant9586 he very well might have taken medication for his health. But that doesn't explain away the amounts of cocaïne he used for example. If you hear his former friends and bandmates about this subject you know enough. Another red flag was the amounts he took of the actual medication. If the doctor said no, Elvis would go to the next one. Who in turn would amp up the dosage to Elvis his liking. Because nobody says no to the "King". Until the doctor would realize that he would be in alot of trouble if the man would die on him. And Elvis would be out shopping yet again for a new doctor.... In the last few years of his life Elvis even went to President Nixxon requesting a special badge which would give him the authority to have illigal substances on his person. And Nixxon actually gave it to him. because he was admits some "scadals". And hoped that having Elvis as a "friend" would rub off well on him towards the public. We all know how well that went for president Nixon... and Elvis.
There are many musicians who were influenced by him or speak highly about him, like John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Jackie Wilson, David Bowie, Keith Richards, BB King... Thank you for this great reaction! I subbed, hoping for more Elvis.
BB KING? I doubt it. Robert Plant, Johnson, Bukka White, Skip James, Jerry Miller, and Sleepy John Estes. jackie wilson, Roy Brown david bowie, The Velvet Underground. keith richards, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Big Bill Broonzy, and Robert Johnson John Lennon, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry Little Richard and the list goes on. Time to grow up I think, don't you?
Elvis became known as the King of "Rock-n-Roll" (probably some kind of media hype that just stuck) Younger people sometimes refer to him as the King of "Rock". To me, however, there's a difference between "Rock-n-Roll" and "Rock". Having been a teenager at the birth of rock-n-roll and having experienced the emergence of Elvis onto the American music scene, the music that became known simply as "Rock" pretty much started around the late 1960s with the appearance of bands such as, for example, Cream (with amazing power drummers like Ginger Baker and exciting guitarists like Eric Clapton who were producing a music like most of us had not only never heard before but couldn't even have imagined). The music of this new generation of musicians was a more sophisticated form of what had begun in the early 1950s and which became known as "Rock-n-Roll". Not that Elvis actually invented "rock-n-roll" even though some folks like to give him credit for that. His style was clearly influenced by the rhythm-n-blues music already popular amongst the Black population. Elvis, being pretty much raised in a neighborhood of economically poor Black and White folks, was introduced to that style of music as a youngster attending Black churches (with rousing Southern gospel music) and later (as a teenager) hanging out in the predominantly Black "juke joints" along Beale Street in Memphis. The thing is, in those extremely racially segregated times, most White folks had never heard much (if any) "Black" music, especially the up-tempo stuff that was being performed in Black clubs and juke joints. Elvis, being a white guy, had much more access to the White community and so he was able to introduce this music to White audiences. Ironically though, at the time, much of the White population rejected him! The music came to be called "Rock-n-Roll" and was, to a large degree, basically an up-tempo and rearranged version of the "White" dominated "Country" music that was popular at the time and, of course, it was heavily influenced by the musical style already known amongst the Black communities. Musically, it was pretty simple stuff (a simple 3-chord formula) that was borrowed heavily from the Blues. But that's a whole other rabbit hole to go down. The point is, that was "Rock-n-Roll". What emerged in the late '60s and into the early '70s was musically more complex, even though it still retained much of what made the earlier form so popular. And people started referring to that new, more "sophisticated" music (in terms of chord structures and even some jazz influence) simply as "Rock". That's my take on it anyway. Others may have a different view of the whole thing.
Very nice reaction. Elvis is called the King because he is the GOAT. You would enjoy everything from that 68 Special, especially the opening number, " Trouble/ Guitar Man. I subbed, hoping for more Elvis.❤❤❤

(new sub) SOME BACKGROUND INFO for this song: As per the producer-director of the '68 Comeback Special Steve Binder, Elvis, Binder & a group of others were together in the studio wrapping up the taping for the special when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, & the others sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings. Elvis was disturbed about many things that were going on in the world -- there had been other assassinations a few yrs. prior to King & Kennedy, & the Vietnam war. Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions w-Elvis. The song was composed post haste as the show’s taping was winding down. The song was not meant to be a literal dedication to any one person or persons but is notable for its similarities King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony due to what was going on in the world. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam. Thank you for this.
@@nadjaGer You're very welcome. I've always been interested in background info about an artist & why a song was created & I think it makes the performer a little more "real" in a sense.
Nice reaction. Feel the passion and emotion of his voice. Please try American Trilogy, Bridge over troubled water, my way, what now my love. Thanks 💕💕💕💕
When he was younger Elvis had a lot of songs with great beats that were catchy as hell. 1968 was the year that both Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy were killed and he wanted to sing a song that actually spoke to the world. His management fought him on it, saying this doesn't sound like you, blah blah blah, but it ended up possibly being the most meaningful thing he ever created. Another similar song by Elvis: In The Ghetto. Great work man!
Elvis released 108 records, and if you count the other side that is another 108 songs. He recorded 200 to 220 unique songs on 45's. A 45 is a record with one song on the front and one on the back unlike an Album. That is a lot even for any artist today. He had 18 number one hits and 114 songs in the top 40. He truly was the King of Rock and Roll.
I got to see Elvis in concert a few months before he passed away at just 42. I wasn't a fan, but my girlfriend wanted to go. I was a real fan after that show.
I'M SO GLAD I LIVED DURING HIS ERA! FOND MEMORIES OF MY DAD AND I DRIVING TO THE NEXT TOWN WATCHING AN ELVIS MOVIE. I FELL ASLEEP AND DAD WATCHING IT AGAIN WITH ME! I KNEW HE WAS IMPORTANT...EVEN BACK THEN...
@nadjaGer did you know that Elvis is a notorious thief who stole all of his songs, style and dance from black culture? Elvis hasn't written or produced a song in his entire career. MJ is the most successful and influential artist ever and wrote, composed and choreographed all of his work by himself. So don't compare that racist thief Elvis to the King of Music Michael Jackson. You just look ridiculous when u do that
@nadjaGer that's not true. What's 100% confirmed fact is that elvis heavily stole and copied black artists. None of his songs were written by him. He had no originality. But MJ was 100% original. This is why he is still relevant today and is outselling everyone in 2024 even after being gone for over a decade 😁
@@AdrianSLorio Nobody stole anything. But if that's your mindset then you also have to say that The Beatles also "stole" about 25 songs from others. Ella Fitzgerald did it & so did many others. Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein wrote “All the Things You Are” in 1939 -- Ella covered it then Jackson covered it. Remember the word COVER! And let's not forget what Jackson stole from Elvis in his moves & trying to replicate some of the jumpsuit designs. As for racist, you need to focus your eyes & brain on the documentaries & the people who spoke about Elvis. But maybe something is wrong w-your brain cells that are incapable of taking all of it in -- & OMGoodness, why such anger. (you needn't bother responding -- i won't waste anymore time on this matter)
This song Elvis sang in dedication to Martin Luther King Jnr following his assassination in Memphis in 68 listen to words of peace and understanding a Presley classic, incidentally Mum and Dad may need some education of the achievements and worldwide recognition that Mr Presley has, maybe you might win them over too and join the many millions worldwide Elvis fans that are still around.
300 plus recordings to react to. Thank you. His live 70s Vegas shows and gospels, rock and rather and blues showcase his voice. Follow that up with rehearsals are great. Enjoy your reactions .

Jane H …. A great place to start with Elvis is right back …. Elvis Presley at Milton Berle Show (Live TV 5th June 1956) Full Appearance Remastered HD/S8 E13 …. In 1956, Elvis was 21 & already a global superstar, after beginning his career two years earlier. Make sure you get the ‘Full Appearance’ video, because Milton Berle got thousands of complaints about the ‘vulgarity’ & ‘obscenity’ of Elvis’ performance, & in future TV appearances, Elvis was often filmed from the waist up, so as not to offend viewers. When Elvis sang If I Can Dream in 1968, I was 16 years old & been a fan since I was 12. I’m 72 now & still a big fan. Thank you for a great first Reaction.

Thank you for a fantastic critique of a beautiful song from 1968 (his age about 33), which relates to much of what we are experiencing today. Nice reaction. Elvis and the general image of Elvis are two different things. Elvis' versatility is unparalleled. This was one side of him. Besides his musical qualities, he was a really good guy.
Elvis was a power house… both in music and style
More Elvis please ❤
Elvis is still popular then and now .Nobody in this world has supercedes Elvis voice, looks. Charisma and a generous heart. Please react to one of his songs recorded on stage in Las Vegas. " Suspicious mind. "
Elvis Presley is the G.O.A.T. Very impressed seeing you react but you should listen to the lyrics too. Perth Australia 🇦🇺
And RFK people forget that but i never will.
Immersive your self into Elvis young man. Men and woman loved him. Enjoy.
Great Reaction! Elvis still has millions of fans worldwide, & it’s always so nice to see members of the younger generation discovering & hearing his music. Just subbed to your channel & looking forward to seeing more Elvis Reactions.
I was about your age when I discovered Elvis from this same show here 1968. And have loved everything to this day. Now we're nearly 40 years since he died. And here we are on TH-cam, And he's still being discovered. Even by ones of your age. I honestly believe people are missing big time in music without Elvis. Hugely!!

Every performance from the Comeback Special was fire.
Anything from the 68 comeback special is great ❤
My long time friend i will always love and miss his humor smile and his awesome huge heart and big bear hugs. I use to post memories of our friendship but people posted nasty pathetic comments so i learned to keep those memories tucked away safe in my heart. Awesome reaction love from the one and only Memphis Tn.
Go down the Elvis rabbit hole, he was a remarkable entertainer and a generous soul.
Looking forward to your exploration of Elvis.👍
My Parents were both born in the early 50's. The women on my mom's side of the family were devout Elvis fans. so it makes me feel very nostalgic hearing this.
I heard from more scandinavien people that Elvis is not such a big thing as in the rest of the world. I Can't argue with culture. (:
However he truly was a very gifted artist and a decent human being.
Although he spiraled out of control in later years.
All i can say is : Drugs are bad M'kay...
He took prescription medication and had serious health issues
We all know how well that went for president Nixon... and Elvis.
Elvis will always rock.
Gives me chills every time
I've listened to this song a few times now, and I have to say the same thing!!!
Don't forget this is live.
Very nice reaction. Elvis is called the King because he is the GOAT. You would enjoy everything from that 68 Special, especially the opening number, " Trouble/ Guitar Man. I subbed, hoping for more Elvis.❤❤❤
Yes Elvis opening number to his 68 Comeback "Trouble/Guitar Man" is fenomenal.

@@carolhayar3037 thank you for helping to spread the eord on Elvis

Elvis live performance of suspicious minds is a must watch
Elvis released 108 records, and if you count the other side that is another 108 songs. He recorded 200 to 220 unique songs on 45's. A 45 is a record with one song on the front and one on the back unlike an Album. That is a lot even for any artist today. He had 18 number one hits and 114 songs in the top 40. He truly was the King of Rock and Roll.
I got to see Elvis in concert a few months before he passed away at just 42. I wasn't a fan, but my girlfriend wanted to go. I was a real fan after that show.

React to They Don't Care About Us by Michael Jackson
did you know thst MJ copied/ was heavily inspired by Elvis? costumes, dancemoves, bandaids on fingers, monkey and he martied Elvis s daughter
Go check out his Rock songs from 1954etc. Your parents probably didn't like Elvis in that era...
This was a tribute to Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy, both had been assassinated months before.
Thx for mentioning Kennedy -- so many people never do.
Elvis was from Memphis. MLK was assassinated in Memphis. MLK had a famous speech,
I Have a Dream.

I don 't see any performances like that anymore! That's for sure! You are in for a great adventure if you keep up the Elvis! Look at Bossa Nova Baby! or 1970 Suspicious Minds! Thanks Metal Teen!

Thank you for a fantastic critique of a beautiful song from 1968 (his age about 33), which relates to much of what we are experiencing today.
