John and Lisa, thank you for the 10 things videos, they are all brilliant. Especially this one. I have been keeping Oscars for 25 years and I love them too. My Oscars live with blood parrots, silver dollars, one large common pleco black and one brown. My tank has mega filtration and everyone gets on well together. My oldest Oscar lived to 11 years and sadly passed last year. Love you guys, stay safe. Regards from South Africa.

I've raised four sets of Oscars and its always been the classic. Two Oscars from babies with a pleco. Ive had other stuff in with them occasionally. Had a rope snake in there once. The occasional feeder comet or gold fish that makes it.
They have always seemed pretty happy with the two Oscar and a pleco setup.

I had an oscar raising with 3 piranhas, everyone on tha same size. They group up to 10 inches and more together in a Cement tank. I had no problem . They were like made for each other. Whenever I feed live fish the Oscar used to swallow and the Piranhas hunt down the others. Once every week I used to feed them with prawns, cleaned and bought from the market fresh. The best part is the Oscar used to recognize its caretaker and trust me to life, whereas the Piranhas were just trying to survive

I’ve also kept tinfoil barbs with oscars in the past too and haven’t had issues. The oscars occasionally seem to get irritated with the tinfoil barbs due to their high activity levels but for the most part they coexist rather well.

My jack dempsey has quickly become one of my favorite fish. Beautiful fish and gets along with all of his tank mates which includes giant danios, clown loaches and plecos. I think he doesn't bother trying to eat the danios because they are so fast. He is well fed so they are likely more work than they are worth lol

i have a two year old 12 inch oscar, when i feed him if it floats he eats it but if the food sinks he leaves it. i put 5 large silver dollars in with him and after he showed them he's the boss they get along fine. putting the silver dollars in with him was a great addition because they eat the sinking food and help keep the tank clean. my oscar has a great personallity and loves me but does't love my girlfriend because she does the water changes in his tank lol

I almost put a clown loach in a 10 gallon tank when I was new to fish keeping. The good thing was Petco was out of clown loaches. So I bought a red tail shark and an albino bristlenose pleco. I was 7 ok!! I didn’t know any better. The red tail jumped out 2 weeks later. Then I got 2 rainbow sharks. Then I bought a 29 gallon tank. Again. I was new to the hobby.

I have 125g and 4 blue dot gouramies with my red oscar and they get along great, Im currently growing out a blood parrot and gold severum in another tank to add in...I think this will be enough for this tank. my adopted walmart abused oscar Sheldon was covered in scales and fins ripped off and mangled up and in a tank full of dead oscars (GRRRR) so I spent alot of time, even sleeping in the fish room so I could constantly check on him. He nearly died at least 3x...this is how I learned about Oscars, that and lots of videos like yours, the big guy is a healthy gentle giant about 11 in and have had him almost 5yrs. I cant wait to see how he reacts to the new tank mates!!

  • @Teramydog

I have never seen the spotted or calico like Blood Parrots before. I used to have BPs. They are comical and full of personality. Though they will be like the police of fish tanks. They break up fish fights and fish chases. No matter if it is one or more in the tank. HAHA! My first BP, "Puffy" used to chase in behind the Convicts and Jack Dempseys when they would chase one another and at times fight. That was before I learned more about various fish temperaments. Puffy though showed them that fighting was not allowed. LOL!

I’ve had success keeping oscars with the following: firemouth, convict, Jack Dempsey, green terror, jewelfish, and common pleco. In contrast, my Oscar bullied my festivum and severum, so I separated them. My Oscar also got bullied by a five star general and a green sunfish, so I had to separate them, too.

This is my question….if I gave you a 650 gallon tank (8x3x4) what would be your dream stocking? I am not near as well versed in freshwater but some fish that peak my interest to this point are Oscar’s, a green terror, arowana maybe a blood parrot or two. I would love to here your opinion on a dream stocking for a large tank! Thanks!!

With several of these, it's also a good idea to have a grow out tank for them, it doesn't need to be as big of a tank, but one to let them get big enough for the fish to grow to a point where you're not going to have the oscar getting ideas.
And, while horrible for longer term, having a couple tanks, bins, or even buckets just big enough to house them for a couple days might be needed for a few just to take all of them out of the tank and mess with the scaping before putting them back in. If you take care of water parameters in the holding tanks for it, you're okay for long enough to reset the main tank that way, and probably ought to do so when first introducing the new fish just to make them less likely to go territorial on you.

.....Hey bro, so i gotta 125, 9 medium silver dollars, two feather fin cats, and now two small oscars.
I have two 110 filters on back, a large sponge filter and a stack of sponges on a power head.
What would be a better filter system, without doing a sump because the cabinet doors are too narrow for a sump........
I hated the old Fluval 404 or whatever canisters, I feel like these Aquaclear 110s are better, but would be a better filter system if I wanted to upgrade, or am I ok?..

Sad to say that the green terror you're referring to is actually a Gold Saum which looks almost like sa Greenterror

I have introduced 2 baby parrot fish (one yellow and other blood red parrot fish) into my tank having 2 oscar of 3 inches. But the red one is being aggressive to all of them. Is there anyway make them friends? The parrot fishes are little big compared to oscar. My Oscars were
poor thing. But one of them started to turn against parrot. Is there any way to make them friends?

@KGTropicals This Vid came out at the perfect time, I was in the process of setting up a 90 gallon and was gonna get variety all young and the basis of the list was based off of a Oscar and what would get along with one. That being said I also considered a Firehorn and or a Firemouth... thought on those?

Not a bad choice, although I'm naturally biased and oppose the Blood Parrot. For me, I like: Oscars, Severums, Flagtail, and some other fish you chose.
