Hi Michael. Enjoy your channel and your tips. Is there any chance you could do a video on how to play various shots when the white is tight against the cushion? Thanks.

Just play with a feeling of squeezing the cushion throughout the shot

@abhirajmalik1221 I can't seem to get my cueing right. If I play with my cue level to the cushion, I'll often misque completely. If I raise the butt, I'll more likely than not add unintentional side.

I associate it with power to be honest. The simple shots I won’t pull back far, but for power I know I need to go back further, otherwise I don’t accelerate enough through the ball. Couldn’t say if it’s right or wrong, just my approach.

Alex Higgins had a very short pullback ,never stopped him from being champion

Ronnie used to have a shorter back-swing, then he went with a longer swing which he currently still uses.....
The first time I saw John Higgins live, I remember thinking what a massive swing he had.
It depends on whether or not it requires a big effort to do it.....if it feels effortless & natural, & you're getting decent results, chances are, you found the right backswing for your game...
As Michael Holt said, you should be prepared to experiment with different lengths of swings, & pauses as well, until you find the right rhythm for you.
Normally if you require power for the cueball to travel some distance, or you're playing a long shot that requires a full-ish contact on the object ball, you need to pull the cue back a little further, to keep the shot smooth, so that you can generate power effortlessly without pulling or jerking the shot - don't forget to follow through...

Hi Michael, If i player is missing to the same side very often, for example the right, would you think that is an issue with sight or cueing or would you just tell them to aim more to the left. Cheers

I’ve only tried a couple of types so I can’t really give a proper review.
I think you just have to find one you like and just play. 👍

It depends also on how long your cue is, where your bridge hand is, where you grab the cue and the weight of the cue. Chris Melling has probably the most extreme backswing.

I was watching the Championship League the other day on YT and it sounded like you commentating. Was it you? If so, nice gig.
I've also noticed when practicing, this little voice in my head going "perf'. (I invariably miss the next shot
    🤣)

its only powerful deep screw shots i actively think about bringing the cue further back so i can generate speed smoothly and whip through the cueball kind of hitting the bal fast but not hard ,otherwise it can be a bit jabby with a short pullback and youre hitting it too hard for the amount of reaction youre getting on the ball .....most normal shots i dont even think about it its just a feeling for the pace or reaction needed

My coach told me that if I was doing a soft shot, I should hold the cue further up, shorten the bridge and use less cue. Thoughts? BTW I stopped doing that, because it’s too much messing around.

    @Gbonejohn1974 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

i know you say it dosent matter but is it a coincidence that ridiculous power shot players like stephen lee or luca have a huge backswing ....there is zero chance someone like marco fu or dave harold with a short backswing in general could ever make the ball move the way luca can get it to

Look at Marco Fu, Allen etc. Look at some of the greats like Davis or Hendry. These newbies in the modern game are all trying to bring the cue right back to the V of the bridge hand, and they are all a load of rubbish.

You really should consider getting a video editor / producer. You’ve got great content but your videos are really amateurish compared to others. It’d make a huge difference to your channel growth, I’d bet.

    I used to think about it,But now I find I don't.
More concentration on the White strke.
    You can't think about everything
You will miss loads, even. Easy shots..I find 15 minutes a week is enough for me..
Any more, and I overthink. Everything..
Relax, try to get it right.
    And most importantly..
    Enjoy the Game.
