  • Thomas shares the story of his 1990 Deutz-Allis 917 garden tractor. These tractors were only built for about 5 years when Deutz bought out the Allis-Chalmers company in 1985. In 1990 AGCO purchased Duetz-Allis and removed the name from the brand. This tractor is powered by a Kohler, 17 horsepower twin cylinder, opposed gasoline engine and feature a hydrostatic transmission. They were built by Simplicity and sold under the Deutz-Allis brand.

I bought a 1987 Deutz_Allis 5215 HST 4WD with loader about 7 years ago because it was cheap but I still have it now because it does everything that I need. Only 18 HP but very useful little tractor. Plow snow / move dirt/gravel and grade stone drive etc.

I just picked up a really nice 1814 today. Wasn't familiar with them, but it's built like a tank.

My dad started an Allis Chalmers dealership in WV in 1949, and I took over in 1975. The first yellow AC B-1 came out in 1962, and I personally bought a orange 700 series, later a 900 series in 1978, and mowed with it for years. I still have it at the dealership, but a few years ago Simplicity made a series of orange tractor with Allis-Chalmers painted on the hood, which I bought and mow with now. Yes, it was a dark time for all dealers when Deutz took over in 1985, but Deutz had a great engine in their farm tractors, and we sold tons of DA green. I was a cheerleader in college, and now I coach college cheerleading, but the rest of my time is collecting old AC farm tractors. All my 700 series needs now is gas and a battery.

Thomas sure has it right on the info to those Deutz-Allis tractors. I seem to remember the brand being not well received back then too. Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend.

I think it was because it was green. If folks wanted green they would have bought a JD.

Love Allis Chalmers garden tractors, but I always thought that green paint just made them look cheap, like something you'd buy at the hardware store, however that being said I know that's a good machine and he should be very proud of owning it!! It is something to be proud of, good and interesting video

He did an awesome job making that tractor look almost showroom new. I actually picked that up for him one cold sunday in the winter and got him hooked on Spring Green due to me having one as well from the Dealership I used to work at. He really knows his stuff when it comes to these tractors and has quite a collection for his age already. I actually have all 3 generations of that tractor between Allis Chalmers 917, Deutz Allis 917 and an Agco Allis 918. We have displayed at shows together with our collections and have had many compliments on our displays. It is really cool to see a good friend of mine featured on this channel. 😊👍

Grandparents had one in the 90s and then an "AGCO ALLIS" Simplicity. Last mower grandma had before moving to retirement community in the early 2000s

have the same deutz just a T13. its pulled a 89 ltd up a hill. its pulled trees about 2 inch's round down. till a garden as big as an acre mowed grass higher the me on the tractor. I've mower fruit trees down to the ground with it. never seen the tree just the stumb. I've pulled trees out that were dead and grown in the grass. vines out of trees. I've plowed snow over the top of the tractor and it just keeps pushing. tired to kill me that day. I accent hit a tree and it tried to climb the tree. that not a tractor that a tank it never died. bogged down or stop pulling the clutch wont let you. it just trys to pull a wheelie then lay back down and takes off no matter what it the way.
