If you’re a serious JS fan & an audiophile, then you need these in your life. I received my 2 records and putting them on felt like I was at church. I had a serious a deep emotional response. I’m a firm believer in how you interpret music by how you are receiving it.
Andy Brown is writing a book about Judee Sill. I went to LA valley Junior College with Judee in 1963-1965. Every weds there was a gathering of musicians in the cafeteria between 11am - 1pm with us all bringing our instruments and playing together. it was a great period.
I love her music, I found out about her through Andy Partridge who is a devoted fan, he thinks The Kiss is the most beautiful song ever written and it is indeed a beautiful song.
How that melodic, stunningly beautiful album was never promoted was insane. How anyone could not hear the album and not think it`s a commercial hit is nuts! Same goes for Big Star 1st. This wondeful music isn`t Sun Ra or something on the edges. For me, Judee hit`s a certain frequency which marinates my soul.
Judee is sublime and the best songwriter in the history of rock & roll. Better than Paul and Brian! The one genius.! just discovered her and she constantly brings me to tears.
I love those Judee records. Sadly I have the 4 Men With Beards pressing which sonically (my ones at least) sound pretty crap. Luckily the songs greatness still cuts through. I'm not sure the Intervention records versions were available when I bought mine. I've a few 4 Men records and they sound quite "digital" to me. I've heard in other places besides this clip that they use cds as the masters.
Discovering Judee Sill is well worth the effort if for only a handful of songs - in my humble opinion, worth it for 'the Kiss' alone. I'm not someone who buys something because of an engineer. The music is good, or it isn't. The truly monstrous irony concerning the 'cheap issue/costly issue' is that everything comes down to cash. You got it or you ain't....doesn't everyone want the best of everything? Capitalism created the music industry, it also got busy chewing its own tail off - and currently making its way up to the head.
yeah , if you make a master recording , seems to me it lives beyond forever . in time someone along the line will mess with your intellectual property . then somebody may screw with what they did to it . in time your mix down or original intention will no longer be available or recognized for what it was .

Was her ex-husband Bob Harris at LAVJC back then? Did you ever meet him?. Andy's making a doc. about her, is he also writing a book?
