    My FIRST Harley !
I bought it off my sister , in 1979 . I was 19 . Last year of the
“ right hand shifter “ . Mine came from the factory with red white & blue graphics , with a red white & blue 1” stripe running down both fenders . At the license plate holder - a factory alarm system that
“ chirped “ when the mercury switch senses movement , operated by independent batteries inside the plate holder .

Well, well.. same year, color, even had that less than beautiful decal on the oil tank. My first Harley. Bought it in 75. Only had a hand full of miles on it. I paid 1800 for it. My god i enjoyed that thing. Was 22 years old. I felt like a king. Thanks for the 360 and closups. Wow

Nothing as cool as a vintage Sportster, SuperGlide and ElectraGlide.

I am VERY familiar w/ the regret. Sold a newer, lower mileage CBR1000RR to buy an older 883 because I missed the 883 like an ex g/f that you never got completely over.

I'm not really a fan of black motorcycles, but there is "something"... And you've got to admit, Harley really knows how to lay on some black paint! It's gorgeous.

Last of the right side shift bikes. 1975 models were mandated to be left side shift. Harley added a Mickey Mouse linkage set up to convert the Sportster to left side shift until they redesigned the Sportster a couple years later.

Almost the spitting image of my '77 XLH. Do have to say it was an absolute disgrace to put those Nippon Seiki guages on a Harley though.

Ride one some time feel like you hands go to sleep cause theirs no rubber motor mount for the engine had a 02 sporty and was the same keep your rides to a minimum also back cylinder gasket cooks out at 230 degrees that’s why these older one leaked their is after market kit to cool them their called love jug’s connect to horn bolt

If yours shook that bad, something wasn't right. I've ridden them as much as 600 miles in a day.. Never experienced either of the things you mentioned

I'm on my fourth Sportster. #2 was an 883 "rubbermount." I thought it would be an order of magnitude smoother than my '86 883 (first year Evo), which I didn't think vibrated as bad as "everyone" claimed. It wasn't. That damn rubbermount would put both of my hands to sleep in the first tank of gas. You had to be really diligent about keeping the engine mounts properly tightened or it would shake like crazy. #3 Sportster is a '93 883, which is nice (still have it). #4 Sportster is a '98 1200 and it is arguably "smoother" than any of the Japanese 4-cylinders I've ever owned. I never liked the "buzziness" of any of my Z-1/KZ1000s at highway speeds. Sportster is fine up to about 75, but who *routinely* cruises faster than that? Not me, 99% of my riding is on city streets and country roads. The '96 is my best Sportster ever, and I would drive the '96 to California in a heartbeat.

1974. When men were men, women were women, and potatoes were potatoes. Still have mine, same color, same shape. Although I'm not. Now I'm an old ,fat bastard.

Had a 74 xlch, no electric start, kick only, had a custom oil tank with a spin on filter, drag bars and it was built to run. It would blow away any 750 jap off the line
