    You haters are just mad cuz he can play as fast as cannonball. If you don't hear the blues/language in his playing, you aren't listening. Dude is killin'

      he isn't even playing that fast, it's just square and jive as shit and that's why he isn't liked very much outside the tiny straight-out-of-metal-slowly-getting-into-jazz community

      Not quite. Every heavy jazz and gypsy cat that’s played with him respects the shyyt out of him! He’s scary good a true monster and if you can’t see hear and feel that then it’s simply over your head and your ear and mind can’t comprehend the lines. Maybe after you’ve finish trashing Andreas you can go bash on Bird and Oscar Peterson smh hahaha

    Andreas Oberg is an amazing virtuoso. He makes most jazz guitarists look redundant. Currently top two/three jazz player in the world together with Bireli Lagrene.

      Amir Rad I used to think that with certain guitarists but man there are so many great guitar players these days. Maybe TH-cam has opened up the world to jazz players. I feel sorry for them because most of these talented jazz guitarists are going to be broke.

    • @robertoloya8696
      @robertoloya8696 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      try to transcribe it, you'll learn a lot. when he starts the run he is playing over II-V7 of F-, that only last for one bar. So he is using a C7Alt scale for one bar. the next 9 bars, is an F-7 Chord so he starts using the F doran scales with some chromatic inflections. then we reach C7alt for 2 bars. again using the C7alt scale. end the fast run and continues the second half of the chorus

    Oberg at his best! this is a fantastic performance! i have to say that i prefer him when he plays archtops. his right hand technique is a bit weak (if you can say that for such an extraordinary player...!) in terms of gypsy playing,so when he plays gypsy guitars,sometimes he sounds a bit sloppy and low volumed,but here...... wooooooow! BRAVO!

    To be fair, everyone seems to play the intro a little stiff(I dunno why, just pretend you're singing in a chain gang breaking rocks. It's not that hard... ) He warmed up once he'd gotten over the "boring" parts. Once he was improvising and having fun, he seemed fine to me.

    A bit too busy... Seemed to miss the point of this song... "Not the blues" as someone had stated earlier... Nonetheless, very fun to watch and listen to! Guitar technique at it's finest.

    • @horsepoetry
      @horsepoetry 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it depends on how you define it. Seems like a lot of manouche style gypsy jazz treatment thrown in, and manouche generally makes little reference to blues and can be pretty "busy.". Wonder how would Django have sounded playing Work Song? Probably most would also say "missed the point" and "not blues." This is a bit like hearing Wes play a pop song like "Windy" on TV. Just a bad choice of genre, a great musician just playing a tune not suited for his musical sense and talents. I'd rather hear Cannonball play this any day as he just really NAILS IT, but it brings a valid question about it being jazz or not. Sometimes innovation forces us to hear a tune in a completely new way. If we love the tune the way we've always heard it, we are predisposed to hate anything else as "just not getting it." I'd venture that Oberg could probably play a pretty funky bluesy version ala the Adderley Quintet if you asked him...but how many times has that been done already?

      ...wow....hate to see what you call Jazz. Oberg is right up there in my book with Grant Green, Joe Pass, and Wes Montgomery. Everything he played there was based on argeggios of extended chords throughout the song. I'd suggest you widen your scope of what you feel Jazz is.
