PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!! There's another lens below the main lens.The space was too narrow for a regular cotton bud, so I made a thinner one. Working perfectly now.
How did you go about getting to the secondary lens? I unscrewed the two small screws from the main lens but could not remove - did you essentially have to make a strip of cotton to run beneath it?
I used the end part of an incense stick and shaved it with a knife until it was fine enough to go inside the gap. Then I rolled a very small bit of cotton on it to make a fine bud. Use a magnifying 🔎 to have a better view. Be careful not to use too much pressure or else you might scratch the lens.
Hey! I just got this dvd/vhs at a yard sale $5 of course they said it works but the dvd door doesn’t open ? Any suggestions? It did come with the remote thanks Jim
Sometimes they just get stuck from non-use. Check out my recent video about a stuck door an a blue-ray player th-cam.com/video/PrdIQPMbq3I/w-d-xo.html It could be a bad loading belt also. You'll need to do some disassembly to check it out. Good luck, let me know how it turns out.
I have two of these and neither DVD drives work. One spins up and sticks on loading screen, the other doesn't spin up but can hear a clicking from laser

Try adjusting the tracking focus. A drop of oil on the spindle motor too.
I did oil the spindle motor which made the motor run quieter. I don't know how to adjust the tracking focus. I'll have to look that one up on TH-cam.

Change the tray belt.
FYI: Refurbished model of this player is $279.00 on Amazon in 2023, so I really want to fix mine. VHS works, CD/DVD spins but does not play video...
You might want to try cleaning the lens on the laser.
