    That works out to $172 a week but if you subtract all the detergents, and household and personal items I bet realistically she is spending about $125 a week for actual food. I know many of you spend that weekly fir the same size families. You just are not buying in bulk.

      Donna Gribbins You are so right! My boyfriend and I typically spend about $60-$80 a week on groceries, and it's just the two of us. $125 a week for 5 people isn't bad at all!

    • @donnagribbins1763
      @donnagribbins1763 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I bet she has at least $200 or more in personal items. Those are big pkgs/bottles/ containers. And I bet that's at least $100 in nuts. Nuts are expensive. And at 1/4 per serving if their servings really are that small those should last several months.

      You're so right! It's just my husband & I & we spend probably about $140 every week on groceries.

    I don't understand how people are so shocked she spent 700 she most likely spent about 300 dollar just on stuff for the house. On food she spent maybe like 400. Im a costco shopper and I spend about 400 dollar a month at Costco on food and all that extra stuff is makes it more. I love your hauls Melissa and your family keep doing what you do 💖

    You don't have to agree with how much or how little food we buy in comparison to your household. Everyone does things differently. I wish everyone would understand that I share these types of videos with you guys because the majority of you enjoy them, not to be bashed each and every time. You worry about how you spend your money and I'll worry about how we spend ours! :-)

    The people who do not understand shopping in large quantities also do not know how to save. I am a single person who shops at costco all the time. There is another reason besides the savings of bulk purchases, I find that as a single person you do not always want to come home and cook a healthy meal for just one person. I will do a large shop at Costco then spend one day cooking a variety of meals and freeze them individually then with an assortment of several different meals I am good for the month (or more) with healthy meals full of veggies and assortment to not get bored. I just put one in the fridge every night and heat it when I get home. Not only that but I live on an island and our grocery stores get hauls from the mainland twice a week. If anything happened to the ferry transportation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, I will not have to worry about empty grocery shelves and could probably feed my neighbourhood for a week.

    I wonder if you did a pantry/freezer challenge, how long you could go before really needing to stock up again. Your freezer and pantry looked pretty full before adding the latest haul. Just an idea and it would be fun to watch. You would have to round out meals with fresh produce and dairy, but wow, I bet you could feed your family longer than five weeks with what you have stocked.

    I don't know why some people feel the need to bash! She's feeding her family 7 days a week. Plus she bought a lot of household items. The whole point of Costco is bulk buying. I feed my family of 4 soon to be 5 all 3 meals a day. Even my school age children bring there lunch to school. When I go bulk shopping it's $4-700 depending on what I need to stock up on.

    Love the haul. That sticker price was huge but understandable with all that you brought. The food was about 400+ and the house supplies about 200+ and the little splurge items 60+. Shoot, I'm a family of 1 and can easily spend about 300 in Costco, it'll last me a couple of months but I won't waste anything. Gurl, yall spent yall money the way you like. Enjoy.

    any natural peanut butter almond butter etc. is supposed to be stored upside down.

    • @__________________________7455
      @__________________________7455 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hippiechrissy I don't think there is a hard fast rule about it. It does make it easier to mix it back together. Here's what I do. I use a knife and deep poke holes as far as I can in the peanut butter. Then I mix it as much as possible, after you get your portion needed, poke those holes in again and close the lid. By doing this each time, you help the oil sink down further into the peanut butter in between uses. I don't want any oil draining out, while a jar is turned upside down. A possibility which can happen with a now broken seal once opened.

    I love having a well stocked fridge/freezer/pantry. We shop like you, so that if necessary we could totally do a pantry/freezer challenge. But why do it when we can afford to keep our stockpile high, when we can't afford it, that's when we'll use all the stuff we have! :) I'm in Australia, but we do a monthly Costco shop for a family of 8 and spend 1400 AUD.

    We are a large family, and our monthly Costco is between 700 and 900. The only other grocery trips we make during the month is for milk, eggs, and produce for the last two weeks of the month, once each of those weeks. That brings our monthly total for food to around 1,000, or 250 per week. So, you did good. We love Costco! We save so much money this way.

    For people bashing her about how much she spends/buys, she goes shopping monthly and feeds 4 people every day until she goes again(minus the baby). That means breakfast, lunch and dinner plus snacks for 30-31 days. It might have been a lot this time but there was also cleaning supplies, not just food. If I could drop a bunch of money on one shopping trip and only go once a month, I'd do it too!

    A great idea for the hot dog buns from Costco would be to use the leftover buns to make an easy Garlic bread just open the bun put garlic salt or powder and butter and warm them up in the oven. My kids also like making sandwiches with the leftover buns for school lunch. I also use 2-3 buns ripped up and put into my meatloaf. Great way to save on buns and get multiple uses out of them.

    I keep saying we need to get a Costco membership. A friend shared hers with me when i lived in California, i'd never shopped there before then. It was actually really cool. We have a family of 8 and those bulk items REALLY come in handy. I liked that they had a lot of the regular brands i typically bought at Whole Foods there and that i could buy them in bulk and they were a bit cheaper.

      Make your own unsweetened applesauce . For a large amount , wash apples, core, remove seeds, cut up and throw in Crock-Pot. No need to peel, it'll cook up fine, become tasteless, invisible while adding extra fiber and nutrients.Depending on my mood, will mash when done, or leave as is. For smaller servings and quick applesauce, toss two apples, into your blender or food processor, after washing and removing seeds and core. Leave in to your desired consistency. I promise you will think it has been cooked, when you taste it.

    I love watching your grocery hauls. It's interesting to see what sort of stuff you buy. It does look like a lot but when you think that the bulk of it lasts you 4 or 5 weeks then it's actually not that bad. Personally, I could spend between £80 to £100 every Friday on groceries in my local Tesco but I also usually need to pop in midweek for a few bits and bobs which could be anything between £20 and £40. And there's only 4 of us. So it's all much of a muchness really. Thanks for sharing. X

When you have 2 working parents and you try and cook most of your meals at home it is nice to have everything on hand so you don't have to hit the grocery store weekly. Loved seeing your haul! It has walnuts, pumpkin seeds, cranberries and some other stuff. I think they have good prices on cheese as well. oh, and I also buy the uncooked flour tortillas from costco and sams. The rest of my shopping is done at winco or trader joes.

    Good buys - I just subscribed to your channel! I'm in Melbourne, Australia and a mum of eight....I LOVE Costco! We tend to shop there fortnightly (due to having a big family), though we just went there yesterday for the first time in a couple of months. Some of my favourite Costco products include the bin bags, toilet paper, pork products, frozen fruit, salsa and, of course, their pizzas! Weight Watchers is great IMO....I've lost weight through following the points system after all my children (though this time trying to do things by myself. All the best! :-)

    People may get upset about the amount of food or the dollar amount you spent, but if either one of you was to lose your job, you could easily get creative and eat what you have to cut the grocery budget to bare minimums until another job was secured!
    You are a wonderful provider. We are a family of 4 and easily can spend this amount on stock-up months. I prefer to have extra on hand to cut down on the in between months.

    I love your grocery hauls please continue with them. There is just my husband and I and we spend (sorry and two furbabies) and we spend around $300 or so, we go to Sam's Club for our meat, potatoes, onions, and carrots. Please don't let people stop you from showing us your hauls.

      Also: stop saying sorry for how big your hauls are!! I spend $250 minimum at Costco and I shop for just me! I couldn’t imagine having to feed all those little mouths, myself, work, take care of the house, and gym! You’re doing great M! No more apologizing! No more explaining yourself! :)

    When I go to Costco I get paper towels, toilet paper, and low carb type foods, never had issues with the milk, chicken nuggets for my girls, veggies, bacon, eggs, etc. always have to look at everything. Love ur video. Will look for the fruit roll up for my girls.

    Just found your video. I love watching hauls. I am a frequent Costco shopper and buy many of the products that you have shown. My family especially loves that pesto and I also freeze some jars of it. We also get most of our paper goods there and dog food. Not unusual to blow through 4-5 hundred dollars we shop once a month. I have never had a problem with their milk and have bought it frequently. Also their organic eggs in the two dozen pack are a great buy! I have a large refrigerator, also an extra one in the garage AND an extra freezer as well - both packed! There are 5 people and two dogs in my household.

    Ppl need to stop hating I swear!! We are a family of three and I can spend almost 400 at Costco at one time of course a lot of it is not consumed in one month it will be frozen and it will be a couple months before we go through it like meat and cheese and stuff like that! Don't listen to the negative comments some of these ppl are so ignorant and just jealous! You do what is the best for your family and let them talk. That's all they look forward to... criticizing. It only reflects how negative and sad their own lives are and how bad they feel about themselves!

    Hey just a tip if you buy the big package of hot dog bun you can use how ever much you want and what ever is left over you can just freeze the rest of them

    I bet most of the people that comment have problems eating out. I personally have a family of four and I coupon (not extreme justt really well)so today I bought $400 worth of grocery I paid $121. But we do BJS sometimes and boy it's easy to stack up the price. But I thought that they paid for all of that not y'all commenting. Theyh know their budget they are adults let them live geez.

    Almond butter tip. Don't stir it first turn it upside down like overnight and then in am should be good. I might have to stir it but it will be better.

    Not sure if you have it at ur costco but my costco has these amazing tubs of bruschetta mix omg it's the best. Whisps which are parmesean crisps .... basically just crispy parmesan peices I love it! Kirkland roasted seaweed is another favorite of ours . bug bag of Ghirardelli milk chocolates. I love costco fresh green beans... they are all the same size and you don't have to cut off the ends ... time saver!!!!!! Veggie straws!

    Great haul, Melissa. It's so easy for the bill at Costco to be quite high.
    Our favorite things to buy, as a family of six, are: Kirkland bacon, Kirkland toilet paper, Kirkland baby wipes (they are the best!), Stonyfield yogurt squeeze, Kirkland applesauce pouches, Tyson panko chicken, and milk. We will occasionally pick up produce, but haven't had the best of luck with it. My husband and I also enjoy the Kirkland cashew clusters, but they are pricey so it's an occasional splurge for us.

    I have a family of 7 and our budget is $400 for food and household. We live in Texas too, near Austin and I love to see your grocery hauls, especially from H-E-B since that's where I shop. Everyone has a different budget, food preferences, etc. . I still love to see what people buy. BTW, your pantry, makes me jealous lol. Mine is a few SUPER deep cabinets and is so tough to organize.

    We just got a Costco about an hour from us!! Up until now it's just been Sam's, which is fine, but I'm really excited for a change. Loved this video and getting to see some of the things you find at Costco! I can't believe how much you got for what you spent though! We can easily spend $300-400 and not get near that much! Good job!

    My favorite bulk items that are used really often are bounty napkins, toilet paper, paper plates, plastic cups (saves on washing so many dishes during the week), deodorant, body wash, rice, cooking oil, cut up chicken wings, yogurt, eggs, ketchup, agave, cereal and waffles.

    • @__________________________7455
      @__________________________7455 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rhonda maybe if you want to reduce costs, buy a waffle maker, make your own yogurt. Cut up your own chicken wings, and use the tips to make your own chicken stock. Keep them in the freezer, until you have enough. Just throw them in the Crock-Pot, add seasonings, water , set on high, and let cook. Get Bragg's Seasoning, it's the one that has over 20 herbs and spices. Sprinkle in per your taste. Strain your liquid when done, using a sieve . Divide in portions, when cool and freeze what you are not going to use, over the next couple of days.

    for the almond butter, use a knife and stir basically like you're digging at it, clear to the bottom of Jar, until it's completely mixed. shouldn't have to stir it more than once if you do that :)

    I noticed a jug a milk on the door of the fridge, it will help to make it last long if you put it in the coldest part of your fridge which in most cases the back part of the fridge. Just a little friendly FYI not trying to tell anyone what to do. Have a great day! : - )

    It certainly isn't hard to spend a lot at a wholesale store. We have a BJs Wholesale Club nearby, first time my parents went to that store, they spend almost $500 and it lasted a few months (just my parents and I). And with buying in bulk, if the stuff is stored properly or if its something like granola bars, you can eat them past the sell by date. Sell by is when the store needs to sell it by, not when it expires.

    My favorites from Costco: rotisserie chicken is a great on hand meal item; mango salsa is fantastic; granola cups; Hannah brand hummus is the most flavorful/authentic tasting; pre cooked bacon for quick breakfast or BLT's; frozen chicken wings another quick appetizer or meal.
