Dr Michael Babatunde Olatunji traveled the world and the USA spreading knowledge of African culture. There were his several albums. "Drums of Passion" was the introduction of West African music to the US public. He used his Go Do Pa notation to illustrate the connection between African language and drum rhythms. I enjoyed several of his classes in Boston back in 1973. I have been entranced with this music since 1959.
