    I have owned a 43 for almost two yrs. Recently got a used UK 92. Replaced the xfader with an innofader but the cut wasn't the best no matter how I messed with the settings. I always wanted one in the early 2000s. Probably going to sell the 43 and save up the rest for the 96 now. Don't think I will sell the 92 though. Kinda a historic piece of gear. Nostalgia has a lot to do with it too.

    this seems like it would be great for a hybrid Traktor and Ableton live setup.
    being able to use a send over USB.
    being a DB4 user it's only when you use a line in source, that you can send through USB and back.
    so if the source is Traktor through USB, I can't route that through Ableton live using the DB4.
    seems the 96 can with any source.

    • @Ninja_Gaijin
      @Ninja_Gaijin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      did you return them via TS or XLR into the Xone 92? The XLR inputs are 'mic' inputs and not full range .. you need to use the TS/TRS returns and select 'return' not mic input on the two side channels

  • @_sl3600
    @_sl3600 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So the cue and filter buttons appear to be a restyle of their classic clicky switches instead of the post-DB4 gummy pads. How did those feel like? Did you notice whether one the "press multiple disabled cues at once to enable more than one at a time" trick from the 92 is still needed?

    • @deejayfeelbad
      @deejayfeelbad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's been changed a little bit now - they've done so you don't have to de-activate before pressing another cue - but you'll still have to press the cues that you want to activate simultaneously. (or hold down the one(s) that is already activated while you press another). But.... there's a fix for that, a hidden function, so that if you power off the unit and hold down the cue buttons for return A and B while switching back on, the cue functionality will be the same as on the rubber models :-)

    Good stuff Mojaxx, if you get a chance would you compare it to Rane MP2015 sound quality wise, as I own xone 92 and mp 2015, and difference in sound is huge when tested on good monitors, wondering if A&H upped the quality on xone 96, if so it will go on my shopping list

    • @DJorDJeDJ
      @DJorDJeDJ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Martin Ibanez MP 2015 is much cleaner and much more detailed, not saying xone is bad , its just once you used to mp2015 it's hard to go back to xone. I also had 900NXS2 in the past, before mp2015, and kept switching it with xone every so often, but decided to replace it with MP2015, even tho I couldn't justify the price difference in the beginning, but once I heard it it just blew my mind, you can shape the sound with that isolator the way you like it at anytime.

    • @radikalkizomba2341

      Rane 100 % digital, i sold it ... i prefer real analog mixer, warm sound .

    • @DJorDJeDJ
      @DJorDJeDJ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, i generally prefer soft and fat analogue sound, Xone sounds good with vinyl or cdjs full-stop, mp2015 even its a digital mixer its in a league above imo, you need to hear it to appreciate it. It's like comparing Man City and Spurs (both good yet still a difference in quality). Turn the isolator knobs either way to shape the sound and the difference is massive. Hence for me if new xone is anything like mp2015 sound wise, rane is going on a shelf or ebay lol

    • @deejayfeelbad
      @deejayfeelbad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never really had that issue - that might be something you need someone to take a look at? Also, the tap tempo isn't on until you actually tap it - so if you just *don't* tap it, then the issue shouldn't be there?

    • @Ninja_Gaijin
      @Ninja_Gaijin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's a common issue with the xone 92 - push the tap tempo fast and crank the output, you will/should hear light 'thumps' with the light speed. Turning it on it has tap tempo on by default. Only workaround is to tap as slowly as it can handle to minimise it, OR entirely disable filters internally :(

  • @Ninja_Gaijin
    @Ninja_Gaijin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the top right section / master meter get super hot from the PSU like the Xone 92? Having hi-z send output would have saved me buying Radial X Re-amper, Radial JDI Duplex and mic preamp, but I think my components probably produce higher quality.. but not sure. The isolator eq on the mic/return 2 channels is awesome too. The layout on the back is better than the Xone 92 too, less confusing/random connection inputs/outputs (like record output RCA at the top, not the bottom of the back). Not sure about sound card quality though. Nice that it has two ground poles, two cue sections, channel fader curves, booth eq and easy selectable 4x send/return options.. the changed buttons look nice also and the LED colours aren't bad either. Made in China though isn't great to me. Traktor support is nice but hoping Serato eventually too. Does it still have midi? Presuming phono pres are same as Xone 92. Can you select line/phono input for the phono inputs yet? I know for the 92 you had to do some internal jumper to change a phono to a line input (annoying, if you use seperate/dedicated phono pres, but still need to have 8x RCA connections/using all inputs as line inputs). I like that they now come stock with innofader rather than penny & giles. Not enough for me to consider selling my Xone 92 and upgrading - still have eyes on a FS FF4.2L if I could ever get the dosh together. Presuming it has higher quality audio output (and similar features to the Xone 92). This is a lovely looking mixer though, much prefer to play on a 92 or 96 than any Pioneer mixer at a club..

    Really only lacks a USB-hub that would make it a central of everything. Also, if they want this to last 10+ years like the 92, why not going with USB-C ?

    • @deejayfeelbad
      @deejayfeelbad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you kidding? So everyone that has a computer older than 2 years should be using adapters to hook up to it?? The industry standard is (and will be for the foreseeable future) still USB B connectors on all audio gear.

    • @alexandrosroussos
      @alexandrosroussos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian Bang USB-C is already the only connexion available on new Macs, available on most mid-range/high-end PCs and will be the de-facto connector for the next two decades. They can still ship it with a USB-C to A cable for legacy compatibility.

    • @deejayfeelbad
      @deejayfeelbad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There you go again - USB-B is NOT "legacy" - it IS standard in all gear. Just because YOU have a new mac doesn't mean that everyone else must conform to what YOU think is "standard". As a mac user myself (although a 2015 model that still has USB-A ports), I am all too aware that USB-C is the only connector - and I'm also really not happy about needing adapters for everything when i decide to upgrade to a newer model. But that's the lay of the land at this point - I happen to work in an instrument shop that sells a lot of studio equipment, and almost NOTHING comes with USB-C cables or connectors.

    • @alexandrosroussos
      @alexandrosroussos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian Bang I hate adapters as much as you do, that’s why I keep my MBP 2014 for now. I’m only suggesting this is a mixer that will still be on the market by 2028. Now be it with USB-B or C we’ll hopefully be using it until then, but yes, with USB-B to USB-C câbles or adapters :)

      They don't click or pop. As the mixer is analog, all the on/off controls is digitally controlled now. Plus, as long as you have you don't have you resonance set to full "wild", then it doesn't affect sound either just turning the filter on, if the filter is turned all the way down.

    does everything sync work on the SC5000's, denon's mixer is meh

    • @deejayfeelbad
      @deejayfeelbad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What does this mixer have to do with the SC5000's syncing up? Obviously you'll just have to connect them directly to each other via ethernet cable, as there's no network hub in this mixer...

    • @for_all_those3611
      @for_all_those3611 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the product page says it has state-of-the-art digital connectivity. the mixer is the central hub for all midi clocks in a setup, it does'nt matter if its cat/ethernet/5 pins/usb, the midi signal is all the same, its all protocol licencing, and firmware updates, which is why pioneer had the nexus name for years

    • @deejayfeelbad
      @deejayfeelbad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the link connectivity in a pair of media players is NOT only midi - it's also streaming data from storage units back and forth between players - and believe me, there's NO more room on the back of this mixer to include a LAN-hub as well (www.allen-heath.com/media/96-Rear-2800.jpg). Plus, the media players out there (be it Pioneer or Denon) all connect just fine either directly or through a hub/switch if you need more than 2 players - no need for that to be synced through the mixer. The digital connectivity that they're talking about is of course all the sound card stuff, the midi mapping capabilities, midi clock out, etc etc.

    • @for_all_those3611
      @for_all_those3611 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian Bang yup, the protocol contains the data needed to switch mode in the mixers firmware

    • @deejayfeelbad
      @deejayfeelbad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      w-h-a-t-t-t-t-t.... are you on about?? Switch mode? Your original question is about if the Denon media players will sync? I'm replying that that wouldn't have anything to do with THIS mixer. If the Denon media players are to sync with anything, they'd have to be connected directly with LAN (or via a LAN switch/hub) or via USB cables to a computer runnning Serato.

Would be very keen.. but not sure if worth the hassle .. the Xone 96 heats up too apparently :( djworx.com/hands-on-allen-heath-xone96-production-sample/ in Australia and summer coming up, cost me already $130 a few years ago replacing PSU PCB due to blown/overheat.. don't use the mixer as much as would like because hate how hot it gets after only couple hours use on moderate/fairly hot day

    • @killedpatrick
      @killedpatrick 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AlienShine I have a DB4, if you want crazy banks of effects and customisation get the DB4, if you are old school style dj that sweet analogue and digital set up with 4 EQ the 96 looks the go. Dual soundcards and dj cue looks the business almost has me swapping over....almost haha

    • @killedpatrick
      @killedpatrick 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AlienShine in saying that.... if I didn't have a DB4....I'd be getting the 96!!

    • @DJRickDawson
      @DJRickDawson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      killedpatrick I totally agree with you. although I may do some soft recreation of the 96 to use mixing in Ableton live with my Novation launch control XL, then output to the DB4, which is running Traktor vinyl timecode.

    • @killedpatrick
      @killedpatrick 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJRickDawson niiice, since the update I've been using timecode vinyl more, feels better than the "workaround" coding before... I just want both...I want ALL of em hahahaha

      Also no digital IN on the 96, would have liked to use their fine DAC for external sources, a part a lot of manufacturers skimp on.

    If only they put in a fan for the PSU... djworx.com/hands-on-allen-heath-xone96-production-sample/ "And, my god, this thing runs hot, as it stands. And not just “this feels a bit warm”… parts of the body are almost too hot to touch. Which shouldn’t be a problem in a club, or at home, but if you stick this thing on a festival stage in the blazing sun, it might be challenging for the DJ. There’s a large vent on the right side, near the rear, which is obviously where the amplification and DAC sit. Unfortunately, this is also the part of the mixer that sits next to your CDJ/turntable/controller, so will most likely be covered up, preventing air flow. Perhaps it needs a small low RPM fan to keep air flowing over the components?"

    Absolutely despise the colour choice they've gone with. Like a 90's computer.
    Edit: It wouldn't stop me from using it, but just prefer the darker colours of recent models.

      I have a db2 and the black and orange colour scheme makes me want to puke now. This looks a lot more long term acceptable.

      I'm with you on this 100% the orange/black color scheme is horrible. I'm thinking I may buy a skin for it .. I've replaced the slider caps to at least get rid of some of the orange/black scheme.

    It looks like a Behringer... much more, less professional than Xone 92! And the knobs became much too skinny in my opinion... clearly is a economical tool!!
