This looks harder than it actually is. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful skills! I've had my long arm for 2 months now. Feeling limited until I took your course. Thanks again!
Angela, thank you so much for all of these quilting videos. I can't attend any quilt classes due to health problems so your generosity allows me to learn at home. You are such an inspiration.
Very excited to be doing this challenge with so many people from all over the world. Angela! You are such a wonderful, fun and excellent teacher! Happy Quilting!
This is all the inspiration I need to want to spend my life quilting! Your work is STUNNING and your teaching style is perfectly inviting. Thank you, Angela, from a new fan!
I'm absolutely loving this series, Angela. Thank you so much for all you do! I'm especially appreciative of all the FREE videos you do for us. I look forward to The Midnight Quilt Show every week and now this series too. I'm learning so much from you and feel like you are my new best friend! LOL!
Dot to Dot is fantastic!!!! How genius of you! And doing it with rulers looks like the way to go for me. Guess Slim will get a workout, but I know he won't mind. All of these videos are just wonderful and I am learning a lot. Thanks Angela, you are just the best!
Oh my goodness.i am so excited to go try this on my quilt. You make it look so easy. I will just be excited to start and finish my very first ever free motion quilt. Thank you.
I have your Craftsy dot to dot tutorial. It’s awesome. It’s a great way to fill in the block, beautifully! Thank you for another great tutorial, Angela!
I am really enjoying your videos and have watched a couple of them 2 and 3 times, then drew them on paper. Next on my quilt practice pieces. I do have your dot to dot on craftsy so will give it another try. Thanks Angela.
Angela, I want to say “Thank You!” I’m very new to quilting. You make it very easy to follow along. You give us newbies the confidence to try. I’m just sayin’ TY.
I love your tutorials and one of these days I am going to get up enough nerve to actually try a little FMQ. Right now I need to finish a couple quilt tops. Keep up the good work. You are so much fun to watch.
Hi Angela, from way up in the land of ice....er, heat wave, same as everywhere else is having, right now. lol (a place called Barnesville, NB). I LOVE the straight line free motion quilting! I have tried and tried and tried some more to do swirls, circles, leaves..the letter C...but it all looks like a three year old scribbled all over the place..but these straight lines. OMG, LOVE LOVE LOVE! thank you soo much for this tutorial (challenge) :)
No question, just a statement. I found you accidentally and love it. I do want to purchase your latest book and a curve ruler. So now to see if I can get that ordered. Then I will get to practicing!
I love watching you Quilt ...it actually puts me to sleep...I guess that doesn't sound right...but it is so relaxing to watch. I seem to tense up when I am Free motion quilting...is there a secret to relaxing. I would also love if you could sometime tell us how your grandfather got into quilting.
It's almost like meditation to watch someone else quilting....I totally undertand what you mean! Grandpa learned how to quilt from him mom when he was young.
Love it❣️Thank you for showing actual quilts utilizing this design. You are so right about the potential with this technique and in other shapes. Such a helpful tutorial.
This is such a versatile design! I love that it is great for both feminine and masculine style quilts. It really looks fantastic coupled with other designs as well as seen in your eye candy demonstration. When I signed up for your first dot to dot class on Craftsy I had your shape by shape books and I found that to be very beneficial. I highly suggest it to anyone considering it. Thanks for being such a great mentor! It’s on my bucket list to have the chance to take one of your classes in Houston. Someday! Thankfully you are here! What a blessing!!!
Great tutorial!! I am always learning from you in each tutorial. I have one of your books and watching you stitch out these designs amplifies what I learned in your book. Thank you for these online classes and will look at Craftsy for your Dot-to-Dot class.
I can do almost straight if I mark the lines with chalk pencils :) I've been going to learn FMQ for over a year. You gave me the courage to start! God Bless you for sharing all your knowledge with me!!!
This is perhaps one of my favorite of quilt designs, because it is a somewhat organized methodogy, and I like organization. (It's the perfectionist in me.) I really like how slowly you work in these videos and talk us through the designs, it allows me to better understand the mechanics of the design. Thanks!!
I may be just a little too excited to see a new video from you. Think I scared my children when I yelled "it's a new video!" When I saw the notification. :)
Thanks Angela, just finished your Craftsy dot to dot class, learnt so much. I was looking for a way to quilt my feature block on my quilt and this wedge design is just perfect. I’m onto it right now, love it.
It's the Slim ruler that I designed with creative grids. Here's a link to the ruler: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/free-motion-challenge-quilting-along/products/slim-machine-quilting-ruler-designed-by-angela-walters-creative-grids
So far I purchased Slim ,Taj,Squiggy I think I heard you say there is a PDF for using these rulers but didn't know where to find.Help I have wanted to try free motion for so long and after watching you I'm going to try this. Thanks so much I am having so much fun.
I love using the rulers for this design. It makes those "straightish" lines actually straight.. Otherwise mine would be curved. or I could be ahead and do the wavy lines...
I'm just getting started with machine quilting, so unsure of what design to sew on what pieced top. Angela is helping me to understand better. I'm a good copier, just not too creative on my own in this part of art work.Any suggestions are welcomed!
This was so much easier than it looked! The only problem I seemed to have wAs when I went “home” and then had to scootch over a 1/4” to start the next wedge. Is there a way to make it so those few lines disappear more? Does that make sense? Thanks so much for this learning challenge, I’m having a blast!
Do you ever use any kind of tape or sticky stuff to the bottom of your rulers to keep them from moving? If so, what? When you fmq with rulers, where do you place the most pressure on your hand with the ruler? Strange question, but I find myself switching from pressing harder on the ruler, then not being able to move my quilt well. If I place it in the fingertips, I lose the ruler. Any special way you hold it? Thanks !!
Angela, you are an inspiration for sure! Can I ask do you use a stitch regulator, or has your experience made it easy to manage your stitches? Mine are not always so regular but am practising! Any tips? Thank you!
I don't use a stitch regulator. practice will help you make your stitches more consistent in size. Try not to worry about it while you are still learning the design!
How come you don’t have pins in the quilt to hold it down. Even with my safety pins it looks like it wants to bunch up. I noticed your quilting looks so smooth. What am I doing wrong.
It's the slim ruler I designed for creative grids. Here's a link to more information about it: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/products/slim-machine-quilting-ruler-designed-by-angela-walters-creative-grids
Thanks so much! I'm just starting out on free motion quilting and have been practicing a couple of designs, but I just saw this video and it's perfect for one of the tops I have done! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!
I am starting quilting. My mom did all hand quilting. I want to learn hand but machine is the way I want to go so I feel I did it myself. Watching you to see how to do this. What would you suggest for a beginner
I love this one too! But Angela, I can't find a ruler foot for my JUKI Exceed F400. :( Do they make a generic one? Help! And Angela, thank you so much for your videos! -Jean 💟
Angela, I am a new quilter, just learning free motion. I purchased archie and slim, tried using archie and i realized my screw for the foot blocks it from the quilting foot, i have a low shank on a brother 3500D. I also noticed i can not put the template behind the foot either . what do i do
Deb Scalice use the rulers to the front and one (probably your right) side. Thinner rulers will fit in all the areas, but you’ve already invested in some thicker ones and they’ll work great. You just have to learn where you can’t use them and adapt your quilting. It can still be fast and precise.
Can you tell me what the stencil you use is called please? I have been trying to find something like that for months now and I cant find anything similiar.
Sure thing! Here's a link to where you can get it: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/free-motion-challenge-quilting-along/products/designs-with-lines-stencil-basic-8-lines
I don't think that they do, but I do have it for sale on my website. Here's a link: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/free-motion-challenge-quilting-along/products/designs-with-lines-stencil-basic-8-lines
Can you tell us what the name of the ruler you use? And the water color pen also? An equipment list, posted below the video, would be so helpful. Thank you.
Of course! All that info is on the website listed in the info: fmqchallenge.com I am using the Slim ruler (which I designed) and a Mark-B-Gone water soluble marker. Hope that helps!
Angela Walters thank you! I made the leap for one of them based on the adjoining ones in Week 5 video but couldn’t quite bring myself to do the corner block! Really a great challenge - I have already learned so much!
Oops. What do you do when you quilt a pucker? Can you smooth it out, or do you just go on? Thanks for all of the encouragement for us. We truly appreciate it.
Angela…you are amazing and have a welcome forgiving quilting philosophy. Very encouraging! Thank you…❤

It’s so nice to look forward to your Monday morning video! You could just keep it up! You make the week on a fun note! Thank you Angela.
Angela, I just love your videos! I new to free motion quilting. You have given my inspiration and great ideas for my quilt I'm piecing now.
Yay!!!! That makes my day!!
I have so much love for the dot to dot quilting, much excited. thank you!!
Being a timid quilter, I am definitely going to try this technique. Thank you for the enlightenment!
Yay!! Go for it!!!!
I love your tutorials and one of these days I am going to get up enough nerve to actually try a little FMQ. Right now I need to finish a couple quilt tops. Keep up the good work. You are so much fun to watch.

Beautiful work, thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
I can do almost straight if I mark the lines with chalk pencils :) I've been going to learn FMQ for over a year. You gave me the courage to start! God Bless you for sharing all your knowledge with me!!!
The best way to finish is to start, lol!! So glad that you are going for it!!

Yay!! I am so relieved that you find them helpful!!!
thanks for the video love how you teach
Love dot to dot quilting! Did two baby quilts in a pinwheel pattern in dot to dot and it was great!
Great video. I wish I had know about this design before I quilted my last quilt. I am sure I will use this a lot. Thank you.
Yay! I am so glad that you find it helpful!
I may be just a little too excited to see a new video from you. Think I scared my children when I yelled "it's a new video!" When I saw the notification. :)

What ruler are you using?
It's the Slim ruler that I designed with creative grids. Here's a link to the ruler: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/free-motion-challenge-quilting-along/products/slim-machine-quilting-ruler-designed-by-angela-walters-creative-grids
Love this pattern. I have your class at Craftsy and made a quilt like the one in the class. So much fun. Thanks for all your time and effort.
So far I purchased Slim ,Taj,Squiggy I think I heard you say there is a PDF for using these rulers but didn't know where to find.Help
I have wanted to try free motion for so long and after watching you I'm going to try this. Thanks so much I am having so much fun.
I love the wedges!
Nice to have someone give me "bright ideas" to step out of my "stipple box"....Thanks Angela:)) GB
Yay! I am thrilled that you find them helpful!!
Excited to try this! Thank you!❤️
Yay!!!!! I hope you love it as much as I do!
Love this! Thank you for the new video! Sew inspirational!
Love the straight lines and I'm going to try it out. I can't decide on which to use for the disappearing hourglass though..so many choices yikes!
Love this!!!! Definitely using in my quilt in waiting! Lol
Looks very nice.
Awesome! Off to try this!
I love using the rulers for this design. It makes those "straightish" lines actually straight.. Otherwise mine would be curved. or I could be ahead and do the wavy lines...
Whoo hoo!!!!
Hello all! I see so many Zentangle designs - is there a video for that? Love Luv Love the FMQ classes.
love all your ideas, haven't had the chance to try them yet, :( I will though. Thank you soo much.
No worries!! Try them when you have a chance!!
I'm just getting started with machine quilting, so unsure of what design to sew on what pieced top. Angela is helping me to understand better. I'm a good copier, just not too creative on my own in this part of art work.Any suggestions are welcomed!
Can't wait to get going on this.

Is there a way to make it so those few lines disappear more? Does that make sense? Thanks so much for this learning challenge, I’m having a blast!
I'm having trouble visualizing it, but one thing you could do is quilt smaller wedges so that there are more lines, it will help hide them.

Doing Dot to Dot straightish lines on a project today... Almost done....
whoop whoop!!!!!

I love that thick ruler. Where do I get one? This will be the perfect technique for a quilt I just finished.
You mentioned once you had papers we could print out, how do I get those?
Bright Beautiful Quilt... where is the pattern from? I think it would be a great quilt for men. I love your work!
I love this one too! But Angela, I can't find a ruler foot for my JUKI Exceed F400. :( Do they make a generic one? Help! And Angela, thank you so much for your videos!
-Jean 💟
If you ever come to Phx Az for a class Plz let us know I want to come
What machine would you recommend for someone who is new to quilting?
Angela, I am a new quilter, just learning free motion. I purchased archie and slim, tried using archie and i realized my screw for the foot blocks it from the quilting foot, i have a low shank on a brother 3500D. I also noticed i can not put the template behind the foot either . what do i do

I have had a few people say that they switched out the screw for a smaller one. Hope that helps!
ok I'll ask my service rep for the machine. thanks i enjoy your videos.
Do you do free hand quilting for people?
Will you be including background quilting designs for this project?
Definitely!!
How do you keep from getting bunched up underneath.. I always get so many bottom ripples.. and I pin like crazy
I spray baste my quilts
I like fusible batting, you could also work from the center out. Sometimes that helps prevent the tucks!
How do you handle it when your bobbin runs out ?
I have seen many doing this with spiral triangles how do they do this?
Angela, can we look forward to a book of dot -to-dot ideas?
Where to get the marking stencil you use?
I have a apple core block quilt I need to start on soon. Would this dot to dot work on that irregular shaped block?
Definitely! Just extend them to the edges and echo the side with a curve
Angela Walters Thank you!
I wish to buy your rulers. How do I order them? No success yet
Where can I find the rulers you use for ruler work?
Can you tell me what the stencil you use is called please? I have been trying to find something like that for months now and I cant find anything similiar.
Sure thing! Here's a link to where you can get it: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/free-motion-challenge-quilting-along/products/designs-with-lines-stencil-basic-8-lines
Have you tried the Westerlee echo guides with your ruler foot?
I haven't, but they sounds like fun!
This is my style...nice straightish lines! With a ruler! Yay. But pages 2 and 3 of the linked diagrams pdf are blank.
They are supposed to be, it's just a one page PDF. I forgot to remove the other blank pages, use them for drawing!
How do you baste your quilt?
Angela, the machine there in front of you, could you please tell me what the sewing space measurement is?
It has an 11" throat, I love It!
Does Craftsy offer the stencil you use?
I don't think that they do, but I do have it for sale on my website. Here's a link: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/free-motion-challenge-quilting-along/products/designs-with-lines-stencil-basic-8-lines
Is there some reason the .pdf has 2 blank pages at the end?
I think Angela has left it so we can make our own design
I just forgot that there was an empty page attached, hopefully the content on the front makes it worth it!
Can you tell us what the name of the ruler you use? And the water color pen also? An equipment list, posted below the video, would be so helpful. Thank you.
Of course! All that info is on the website listed in the info: fmqchallenge.com
I am using the Slim ruler (which I designed) and a Mark-B-Gone water soluble marker.
Hope that helps!
Where are we putting the squares for Week 5 #AngelaWalters ?
Bottom two blocks in the lower right of the quilt.
Angela Walters thank you! I made the leap for one of them based on the adjoining ones in Week 5 video but couldn’t quite bring myself to do the corner block! Really a great challenge - I have already learned so much!
What is the name of this sewing machine model?
Think ill try that in my fan quilt
Where can we buy that stencil
You can get it in my online store, click here: quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/free-motion-challenge-quilting-along
Oops. What do you do when you quilt a pucker? Can you smooth it out, or do you just go on?
Thanks for all of the encouragement for us. We truly appreciate it.
It depends on whether or not you can live with it. I usually leave them on knowing that they will be hidden when the quilt is washed and dried.
Yeah, I can live with that. Keep up the great work, you make a difference for all of us.
Am Having a good time
Did anyone else have trouble accessing this from the Week 5 e-mail? I was of course able to get here through TH-cam!
