Being on disability I get paid once a month and I have to be frugal with my cash but this looks like it will be very helpful because I get the pentatonic scale and can see it everywhere I just don't know how to connect them so it doesn't sound like the same old stuff over and over... This will help to get better phrasing ideas under my fingers... I wish I had paid more attention to this kinda stuff when I was younger and just learning how to play... As always thank you. I know my pentatonic scales and am learning my arpeggios. This does what a lot of lessons don’t due, that is, show how to tie the two together into something usable.
I think what alot of us non pros forget as well is it is totally fine and actually great sounding in fact to play the same riff or arpeggio concept over each chord. It's a way to tell the listener hey the chords are changing but gives the listener something to hold on to. I have a tendency to improvise and feel like you have to play something different over every change something I really want to focus on

I started doing this in my second year of playing. I picked it up through a lot of the players I was listening to like Robben Ford. In fact, I even heard a lot of shreddy players doing this like Satch and Greg Howe. But I didn't quite understand what I was doing at the time. I was using a lot of bad transcriptions which would tell you where they notes are but didn't get into why the notes where there and why they sounded good in such a scenario. But I did this lesson. It puts things in perspective. Also, great playing and tone. Well done!

I can follow you through all the dominant 7 arpeggios and minor pentatonic response licks, but I still can't quite articulate the notes with the style and energy your playing conveys. But then again, few can. Just purchased your eBook as I want to do what I can to help support your channel.
It’s no easy feat taking a Trini away from someone. That headstock really keeps the attacker far away from you. I might pull something trying to tune that high e string.
Take the Minor Pentatonic scale and simply add in 3 for this formula: 1-b3-3-4-5-b7. Now take the 5 CAGED shapes, and add in that major 3rd; always slide up (or hammer on) from b3 to 3. 2) Add in 2 and 6, and now you have Mixolydian but with b3 added in: 1-2-b3/3-4-5-6-b7. 3) Add in b5 from the Blues scale. 4) The final 3 notes of b2-b6-7 can be used as chromatic passing tones. - So now every note is available to you from within the 5 CAGED shapes (I think of this as EDCAG-7).

Hey Corey, your arpeggio video's are some of the better ones. I'm retired and I have alot of time for learning, but I'm stuck. I have probably watched over 1000 YT video's. Can't even afford a new E string for my $200 guitar, so I'm playing my $80 guitar ! There is something missing in every YTube video, and I'm guessing you would be the person to finger it out. I believe it would be very popular. I have memorized the pentatonic over the entire fretboard, I map it with 1,b3,4,5,b7. and use a 28 fretboard grid without fret markers, so I can play in any key by placing the 1 on any note. I don't play it in a scalular form. But I'm trying to focus on following the chords. So I'm in the process of trying to memorize arpeggios over the entire fretboard (overload) (guitarcharts.net is one of the best fretboard mapping tools). But I have to say that I HATE the sound of just playing thru arpeggios, although they sound melodic, it's way to formulaic, and sounds like popcorn music, or math rock ! I'm into blues based rock, not blues. I doesn't sound to me like billy gibbons,slash,J page are just playing arpeggios, their cord tone soloing is somehow different. If you can figure this out and make it teachable you will have done what at least 50 of the most popular YTube teacher's are attempting to do but just can't. In my 54 years of "intermediate" playing it seems that 9 out of 10 guitar players are trying to learn blues (only to play blues based rock, not pure blues). 1 example of a arpeggio based solo that I didn't even realize was arp based is "Fall to Peices" by Velvet Revolver it's a Slash lead. I don't really care for the band's songs but the lead on this song is the only time I have ever cried on hearing a solo. And I'm not really the "Crying" type! Figure out how blues rockers are thinking/doing an make it step by step, and you will be a guitar teacher GOD ! Sorry this is so long. Do you ever play in Clarksville ? I have never commented on anyones lesson, but I think you are probably the only teacher who might be able to do this, but it won't be an easy video it will take alot of thought and analysis.

Hey, Corey "I'm an avid follower and can't get enough of your videos!!!! I truly believe you can help get me to that playing ability I soo dream about. Am working hard on Arpeggios and I'm that guy who has been stuck in the Minor Penta for Years and well more years and need to add this new language to my jams. Anyhow, my question is this. Is there some kind of trick or way to play an Arpeggio anywhere on the neck in whatever key your playing in, And know which Pentatonic shape your playing near to jump right into. I developed the bad habit of looking for my root note on the top string and basically jumping off box 1 to move into my other positions. But, when I am further on down the strings it's challenging to know where I am and what penta position is where I'm at. Cant just stop the jam and be like. Wait a minute let me go to top string and slide through the positions until I get to where I ended my Arpeggio 😂 Anyhow, A quick practice your positions more could be coming!!! Lol Thanks 4 all you do on here man. Sincerely ✌️

Hey Corey, another great lesson. Do you always marry the dominant 7 Arpeggio with the minor pentatonic when soloing over major 7 chords blues progression? Or can you combiine the dominant 7 arpeggio with the corresponding Major Pentatonics if you apply Major pentatonics for major blues soloing
You can mix, that's what's so great about blues, you have so many available sounds. Arpegios, major pentatonic, minor pentatonic, mixolydian, whole half, altered...

Question, couldn't you also use a D Mixolydian plus a G blue scale (6atonic) which would put 10 tones at your disposal (in the key of G that is)? Damn, I'm definitely going to grab this next payday... I just hope it will still be on sale... Being on disability I get paid once a month and I have to be frugal with my cash but this looks like it will be very helpful because I get the pentatonic scale and can see it everywhere I just don't know how to connect them so it doesn't sound like the same old stuff over and over... This will help to get better phrasing ideas under my fingers... I wish I had paid more attention to this kinda stuff when I was younger and just learning how to play...

Hey Corey, another great lesson. Do you always marry the dominant 7 Arpeggio with the minor pentatonic when soloing over major 7 chords blues progression? Or can you combiine the dominant 7 arpeggio with the corresponding Major Pentatonics if you apply Major pentatonics for major blues soloing
You can mix, that's what's so great about blues, you have so many available sounds. Arpegios, major pentatonic, minor pentatonic, mixolydian, whole half, altered...

Hey Corey, Amos here, I was in your last Zoom meeting and I asked about this very subject. Question, couldn't you also use a D Mixolydian plus a G blue scale (6atonic) which would put 10 tones at your disposal (in the key of G that is)? Thanks for another great video and I'm working my way through your new book.

I seem to see a lot of players going up the major pentatonic (or arpeggio) then down the minor pentatonic in solos. Is this a common ‘formula’?
