I really super enjoyed watching this video. It is very satisfying to know that you have taken clean mama, FlyLady, and the passionate Penny pincher plan cleaning routines and tweaked them to make them your own, and to make something that works for you and your family. I’ve been with FlyLady for a lot of years, but fell off the fly wagon for a while And am just now getting back on. I signed up with FlyLady Kat to help me get my house in shape although I know what to do. I just need someone to hold my hand to do it. Please continue making cleaning videos and encouraging us and inspiring us with your cleaning routines And example. We love you.
No one talks about the Slob Sisters system and their Basic Week Plan. This includes more than just cleaning and shopping. I can share this with anyone who wants it.
I love the 6 zone idea and the flex zone. We use our outdoor spaces from about April to October (3 season porch, patios) plus need a realistic plan for cleaning the garage and utility/garden/storage spaces a few times per year. Brilliant and so simple to remember…..I am going to try 6! Thanks!
I think the most daunting to me is trying to fit all the areas of my home into 5 zones. Let’s be clear though…I live in an apartment so it’s not huge. For me though as a working mom…it’s too much for me to think on right now. Gotta build those routines for a good foundation first.
Yes, keep building those foundational routines. Once you are ready to add zone cleaning in, don’t be afraid to add more zones to make smaller lists each week.
I like the structure - and I do think this is in essence the Flylady system done as it should be, which is tweaked and adjusted to fit your individual life and needs, just as it recommends. Skip the things you don’t need in your house, add the ones you do. A combination of daily routines, weekly upkeep clean, zone cleaning and on top the daily “themes”. All systems has some key elements in common, as it is just universal to have a need for daily tasks as well as deeper cleaning tasks in most households. So what matters in any system is using it as the overall structure and inspiration, and then adjust it as it fits your life. As an example I would never have a specific taks of cleaning glass/mirrors as I only have mirrors in my bathrooms and do them then, so there’s no need for that to be a separate chore on my list. For others it is different. I have done much like you and also have added e.g. a flex day to catch what is needed, etc.
I agree Jules, they do that with Marie Kondo. Use her system and make it their own and then low key talk down on the systems like she’s doing in the thumbnail. They do it with Pinterest too. To me, It’s all about getting inspiration to motivate people to clean their homes. To be totally honest, everyone is saying the same thing with mostly the same methods.
Yes, that's great. Everybody has to do what works best for them in their own homes. I hope her system doesn't cause others anxiety to think they need to do it her way. She is sharing what works for her. Great video!
I'm in the process of setting up a routine and your weekly home reset is exactly what I need. I have a central vacuum and don't like the idea of dusting/vacuuming/mopping small areas of the house throughout an entire month.
Thank you for all your videos. I’m trying to find what works for me and have tried almost every system you mentioned. I’m going to use some of your suggestions to try to find my perfect home routine! Thank you, thank you!
Hey girl! I saw an interview of you on Today with Terry K TH-cam channel, and I was like, “Hey, I know her! 😍” I love your new routines, especially the laundry idea - different types of loads for different days. I have realized that I have to wake up earlier, because I simply don’t have time during the day to get it all done! But I definitely want to incorporate a lot of your ideas! tysm
Well, Hey! What a small world. I’m so glad you popped over here. I hope you and your family are doing well. 💕 Getting up earlier is a big one for me, too! It really does make a difference. ❤️
Nikki, I love all of this information. Making my own plan seemed overwhelming. Breaking down your thought process gives me good thoughts on how I will be using my planner. I have already added a "flex" day to my planner on Mondays. I will be using this day to catch up on what ever I didn't finish over the weekend. Thanks for your support!
I’m super happy to hear this! That was goal…to give you all the info you need to create routines that are your own. We are all in different seasons of life, have different family dynamics, different kinds of jobs, different homes, etc. ❤️ I have more videos coming to help break this down more to offer more support.
4 times a year there is an extra week in a month. That's when I do my 5th zone that also includes bedrooms. Since I, like you, do my blessings on assigned days, for the entire house. I will detail the task for the zone i am on.
Great personalized tips for success!! As I listened, I noticed how the sofa cushions behind you look structured but comfortable and I’ve been looking for one well made for quite a while. Since you have kids and dogs maybe you found a good one!? If so, and you don’t mind sharing the details, I’d appreciate it!
@@Lisa-laine Thank you! The couch is a love sac. They are expensive, but it has been a really good couch. Each piece has an individual slipcover that can be washed.
Oh shoot!! I was excited you replied until I read Love Sac 😅😅😅 How did I know that was such a good sofa seeing such a small amount?? I DO appreciate the response, and might need to get myself back into one of their stores! It’s buy quality or front or go through the hassle of repeating more often.
Nikki, I have long felt that the Zone tasks should have different timings of when they get done ! Some tasks need ongoing repetition every 4-6 weeks, while others can be assigned to every 3-4 months, twice , or maybe even just once a year . I am looking forward to seeing how you break down the times for these tasks and which ones fit into which timed category . So proud of you for making your plan exactly that - yours ! As should we all ! One of the changes from Flylady that I have done is to take a Clean Mama approach to the annual or semi- annual tasks in a Zone and use an entire month to accomplish them, like the kitchen , for instance , if that is what is needed . Other tasks needing to get done more often that vary from every 4-8 weeks ( I have 8 Zones) , I perform with an ongoing loop cleaning method .
And I live your idea of an added Flex Week ! I believe in doing tasks that say “ do me next “ , no matter which Zone they are in, and a flex week allows for that !
I figured it out! OK, so first, before I get into it, I have to mention that my days will be numbered because my days off change every 1-2 months. Also, zone 1 is my entire outside including the porch and it's in serious boot camp. I'll figure out my different levels of work for that later down the pike. And when that happens, I will be spending alot more time outside during Zone 1 weeks during yhe warmer months, and have a little more daily outside time for daily zone 1 maintenance. S, that will like be my favorite week lol. For now, it's all about just getting things cleaned up. That's still 15 minutes a day doing something out there on Zone 1 week. Zones 2-4 each have a bathrrom with a shower, and then at least 2 other rooms or areas. So, I split it up so that each day I will focus on a different level of non-daily cleaning. Also, I realised that my bathroom floors are the only floors that need mopping weekly, other than maybe touch-ups niw and then. So they can be fone monthly. and I can do monthly cleaning of one shower per week. The way I'm thinking of dividing up the jobs, I figure my Weekly Home Blessing should still not take more than 1 hr, give or take about 15 minutes. Days 2-5 should take roughly 15-30 minutes a day. So here's what weeks 2-4 will look like as far as non-daily cleaning: Day 1: weekly Home Blessing Hour -wand dust whole house -touch-up windows, mirrors, picture frames, etc -clean out washer filter -sort through sock bin (I keep a bin on the laundry area for socks that are missing mates- takes me less than 5 minutes) - Mop bathroom floors (yes, one bathroom will get mopped again on shower day, but that's ok -Sofa dive (clean, vacuum under sofa cushions) -quick vacuum of main areas Day 2: rag dust/clean visible surfaces (15 minutes) Day 3: one seasonal or other deep cleaning job (15 minutes or until specific job is complete but not necessarily perfect) Day 4: clean 1 shower and mop floor (whichever zone I'm in that week), -mop the rest of the zone (Should take me roughly 30 minutes...we will see) Day 5: Detail vacuum (stock to 15 minutes. I want to stick to a 4 week rotation. I like knowing that if anything gets missed in a zone, I'm only waiting a month to get back to that zone and pick up where I left off. Also, some areas of my house are in maintenance and others are still n boot camp. So on the days when I do the seasonal or 8ther deep clean, if I'm in a room or area that's still in Boot camp, I'll do 15 minutes of boot camp instead. For nearly 3 years, I've been doing The Organised Mum Method, because it seemed to me the easiest way for me take reasonable-sized chunks of de-clutterng and organising and cleaning each day without getting overwhelmed. And, although I've bern making very slow and steady progress, I've bern finding that no matter how I tweaked it to adapt it to my home, I've still been spending way too much time cleaning. But I still always csmr back to it as my baseline method, method, while combining it with bits of other systems. Fly Lady's system just didn't make sense to me for how to het the different levels of deep cleaning done. But I had already developed alot of hers and others daily routines (cleaning and otherwise), so the baby steps were unnecessary for me. I just really needed help breaking down the mon-daily cleaning. If I could just get a handle on that, then I wouldn't be spending my non-cleaning time over-thinking how I would get it done. So, I haven't bern gully present in the other parts of my life. Now that I figured it out, it looks like I will be really transitioning to Fly Lady's system as my main system. It finally clicked with me! And yes! I do need timers for non-daily cleaning, or I will become time blind while I work. I can keep my zone cleaning down 15 minutes at best and 1 hour at worst, depending on which job I'm doing that day. I honestly don't know what specific tip you gave that made it all click for me...but something in all that you said, flicked the light switch in my head, and it was a serious V8 moment gor me! Thank you!
So, I re-thought my rotation this morning and decided to floow the Fly Lady 5 zone rotation, to jeep 8n sync with her Fly Lady Plus App, which I really like. But, like you, I mDe that my flex zone, which makes sense since every month we start or end with a partial week, so it's kind of a wonky week for scheduling repeating tasks. I like that idea of a flex zone ❤
I love this so much! I'm a "naturally organized" person, but sometimes that makes it difficult for me to think out of the box. Your video was helpful for me to see how changing up the Flylady Zones would work better for me! :)
This is such a refreshing way to look at household responsibilities! I can see how I could benefit from this type of system and how it can be altered for the needs of different households and families 👍🏼 Did I miss something though? I didn't hear in the video nor see in the transcript what your weekly rhythm is for Wednesdays. Hopefully you'll have a moment to help me out! ☺️
You didn’t miss anything! I don’t have anything specific on Wednesdays on purpose. I wanted everyone to see that you don’t have to fill in every single day, but I forgot to articulate that. I’m really working on giving myself some margin, but if you want to fill I. All of your days you can.
Oh Nikki! This is so lovely. Simple and so comprehensive! I’ve been looking at Rosa Picosa’s routine lately too. It’s so helpful to see variations. I’ve watched this about 4 times to try and get my head around it. How long does your Sunday prep take? Any tips for mums with little tornados who make it a giant task to tidy… let alone anything else (other than declutter or get extra help. We’re already trying to do these). There is no ‘quick tidy’. Yes, quick tidying helps, but doesn’t get through enough to make progress. It gets out of control so quickly. Help. Love your work. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you! I’m not sure how long my Weekly Prep on Sunday takes. Most of it doesn’t take long at all, but sometimes I get inspired after a nap and end up cooking/prepping more food than I intended to. The meal prep takes the longest. I’ll time it when I film a Weekly Prep. Having littles around does create more things to tidy. You already mentioned decluttering. My biggest tip is to focus on giving everything in your house a designated home. This may take some time. Once everything has a home it becomes easier to do quick tidy ups because you aren’t having to decide where to put things. I also like to set timers. It helps me stay focused on what I’m doing. When my boys were little I would sometimes do quick tidy ups at different point’s throughout the day to help keep things from getting out of hand.
Ok...watching this again and I'm thinking, maybe it woukd be helpful to have 6 zones, with zone 5 being that bathrooms and zone 6 being that flex zone. I'm still overwhelmed some days with jow long some jobs take, and my bathrooms are a major culprit to that problem, especially the master bath. I could focus on one of the 2 extra bathrooms per day for 2 days, then the next 2 days, split up the master bathroom. As got detailed vacuuming the bathrooms. I can just limp that part in with detailed vacuuming of whichever bathroom is near the zone I'm In on detailed vacuuming day. I don't like taking the vacuuming clear out more than twice a week because the dig will seriously pee on whatever furniture she has decided to hide on (usually under tge covers on our bed lol). I keep vacuuming sessions short and infrequent. And broom sweep a lot in between. So. Yeah...maybe I do need a 6 week rotation instead of 5 weeks
So funny, i did the same thing today. I've switched between "clean mama" and flyladie sevarel times. Today i tweeked/combined them to a routine that work's for me. Because I deal with cronical pain and ME/CFS it's hard to find a routine thats working for me
It depends. There are a few ways you could go about this. It really depends on what you have time for, what would bring you the most peace, and what would help you build momentum. 1. You could spend time decluttering those rooms until they are done and then start zone cleaning. 2. Zone clean the rest of the rooms in your house, but also set aside some time each week to dedicate to decluttering in the rooms that need it. Option one will have the decluttering done the quickest so you can move on to zone cleaning. Option two will take more time to get the decluttering done, but will give you a cleaner home in the other areas of your house.
I always recommend starting with a basic Morning and Evening Routine! I shared mine to give some inspiration. The next routine I would add is a weekly cleaning routine. Start building routines slowly.
Hi Nikki. I can see that your routine has been influenced by the flylady system and like myself you have adapted things to suit your life. I am grateful to Marla for her cleaning system as it helped me to develop routines and most things made sense to me. I don't really watch her videos but used her app a lot as I was introduced to it by watching Diane in Denmark videos when she was a mentor for flylady. For me it is one of the better cleaning systems and it gave me a basis for creating my own to suit my lifestyle. If I need a little nudge to declutter which is my weakness I put on a decluttering video and as this week I am in the bedroom today and yesterday I put on a decluttering video then was able to declutter quite a lot of my older clothes that I no longer use. It was great. It's been a hard year for me as I lost my darling husband in January last year after 9 years of suffering from a stroke. December would have been our 50th wedding anniversary so it was hard. On the 4th of January the anniversary of his death I visited his grave and put a white rose on it. I am now feeling a lot better and positive. I have always enjoyed your videos and I think your Sunday planning for the week ahead is great. ❤
I don’t have one for Wednesday. I meant to mention that you don’t have to add something to each day, but I forgot to actually say that. You can add whatever you want to that works for you.
I love how you took things from each system and made it your own. I need to try that. I have tried the fly lady, and the biggest thing that I took from that was getting dressed every day to shows. I try to do different systems, but nothing ever sticks. So maybe I can take things from each and figure out something that works for me. Really enjoyed this!!!! 🩷🩷
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I don’t think that cleaning/home routines are one size fits all. I do think that we all need to build these different routines in a way that serves us well. It’s okay to build routines slowly. 💕

-touch-up windows, mirrors, picture frames, etc
-clean out washer filter
-sort through sock bin (I keep a bin on the laundry area for socks that are missing mates- takes me less than 5 minutes)
- Mop bathroom floors (yes, one bathroom will get mopped again on shower day, but that's ok
-Sofa dive (clean, vacuum under sofa cushions)
-quick vacuum of main areas
Day 2: rag dust/clean visible surfaces (15 minutes)
Day 3: one seasonal or other deep cleaning job (15 minutes or until specific job is complete but not necessarily perfect)
Day 4: clean 1 shower and mop floor (whichever zone I'm in that week), -mop the rest of the zone
(Should take me roughly 30 minutes...we will see)

You didn’t miss anything! I don’t have anything specific on Wednesdays on purpose. I wanted everyone to see that you don’t have to fill in every single day, but I forgot to articulate that.
I’m really working on giving myself some margin, but if you want to fill I. All of your days you can.
Love the idea of Flex Friday😊
It’s one of the best things I have done for myself!
Thanks Nikki 😊
This was very helpful. Glad I clicked on it.New sub.
I’m glad it was helpful! And welcome to my channel. I’m glad you are here. 💕
Yes, use that zone 6 for anything that will make your life easier!
So funny, i did the same thing today. I've switched between "clean mama" and flyladie sevarel times. Today i tweeked/combined them to a routine that work's for me. Because I deal with cronical pain and ME/CFS it's hard to find a routine thats working for me
Yes, it’s so important to make routines work for you.
I love no timing!!! Great video
Awesome! Thank you!
Do you have your schedule somewhere we could read from or print? I really like it
I don’t have everything in print at this time. If you will email me, I can send you my Zone Cleaning Checklist. nikki.carrygrace@gmail.com
@@CarryGrace thank you!! I emailed you
I have 2 bedrooms that need decluttering before I zone it. Would you declutter these rooms before zone cleaning in other rooms?
@@CarryGraceI am doing #2 and appreciate the cleanliness I have experienced throughout my house.

My house is a mess!!! I need to get on some sort of schedule. I don't even know where to begin.
I always recommend starting with a basic Morning and Evening Routine! I shared
mine to give some inspiration.
What’s Wednesday’s weekly rhythm
I don’t have one for Wednesday. I meant to mention that you don’t have to add something to each day, but I forgot to actually say that. You can add whatever you want to that works for you.
How much time a week do you dedicate to zone cleaning?
Usually only about any hour or so. I’m working on a separate video that will give all the details for Zone Cleaning.
Love the system but not doable when you have to work 40 hours outside the home.
No, when you work 40 hours outside of your home you really have to utilize your weekends. 💛
Did I miss Wednesdays weekly rhythm?
@@christinejaramillo4551 No! I don’t have anything particular that I do on Wednesdays.
Day off?? I like it 😃
I love how you took things from each system and made it your own.
