I worry about Jason Isbell since the news about his separation from Amanda has came out. A lot of my early years being clean and sober from drugs and alcohol were spent listening to Southeastern on repeat. His music helped me thru many rough days and nights. I hope he continues to do as good as he has inspired me to do.
"Said there's nothing more to talk about. At my age I should have figured out, which drawer to put the good knives in. " This guy's really been married. Great divorce song. Been there.
Jason Isbell is the troubadour of my life.... he paints pictures, he pens the poetry, and he hits the notes like nobody else every time. Simply put, he’s a master craftsman.
I totally know what you mean. I found him around 2005 when he was in the band The drive by truckers. At that time where I lived was a few hours from his hometown. He is a lyrical genius in my opinion. I love songs that make you feel understood. He describes the human condition in a simple yet profound accurate way. I have been through some experiences in life that his songs could be the soundtrack to. I love your description of his craft as well. I rarely comment on TH-cam, but it is nice to know that other people feel their lives being touched with art and especially if it is someone I see as a true artist. Have a great day.
Bill Barker maybe try Tyler Childers or if you haven’t heard of him John Prine. John Prine is my hero and I’ve even thought of manipulating my body out of my liking for him in the form of a tattoo. The words “A Picture of Another Mans Wife” with a small loon nearby. His music has followed the etching of my way life like no other and I highly recommend everyone listen.
Jason Isbell has the uncanny ability of making people feel things they have never felt before when they listen to his music. the mark of a true artist !
Like Jason I grew up in Northwest Alabama and I lived 14 years in Tupelo MS ..week of spring and the summer is blistering...soo true! What a talent he is..
I really hope the folks in this crowd truly understand what they are apart of here. This is an unbelievable display from an artist completely mastering his craft. It's absolutely beautiful.
I haven't been wasted in a long time But tonight it feels just fine Riding home with the windows up Alone with a plastic cup of real good wine When I get out of this hole I'm goin' to Tupelo There's a girl out there that'll treat me fair You get about a week of spring and the summer is blistering There ain't no one from here that'll follow me there No, there ain't no one from here that'll follow me there She said there's nothing left to talk about At my age I should've figured out Which drawer to put the good knives in And the wars between the weekend store and the playhouse town I kept her close, but way too close to me She never lived up to my memory Driving fast with the windows down A past I don't belong to now, a mystery I get out of this hole I'm goin' to Tupelo There's a girl out there that will treat me fair You get about a week of spring and then Summer is blistering So there ain't no one from here that'll follow me there No, there ain't no one from here that'll follow me there When I get out of this hole I'm goin' to Tupelo There's a girl out there that will treat me fair Get about a week of spring and the summer is blistering There ain't no one from here that'll follow me there Well, there ain't no one from here that'll follow me there
Stripped down, just pouring his guts out in that buttery creamy voice, hammering on thos gitter strings in just the right places he is at his best. I forget I am human for a minute, stuck on the sad ground not able to fly and for a short minute I can soar. So fucking good is what I am saying.
Isbell's music has a way of speaking to everyone differently his songs all tell a different story yet all feel unified it takes real skill to right so a wide range of songs
Best audio I've heard in a long time! Goddamn that voice(and harmony) and guitar(s) tone...so fn good! So glad to hear something that uplifts...Mr Isbell: thank you! Please keep writing magic...
This has got to be one of the best songs I ever heard!!! How does Jason write all these songs, sorry but he will be a great !!!! Maybe he is already ??
I believe he's now widely regarded as one of the finest songwriters in the country. He's there. If you don't have Southeastern, download it immediately. I think that's when he hit song writing super star.
When John Prine holds you in high regard that is all the validation you need as a songwriter. I honestly believe Jason to be one of the top 10 songwriters of all time. Definitely the greatest of our generation.
Encourage all to keep the sentences that come to you throughout your days. Your lives are songs, books and movies. We all have it in us, the ability to appreciate a turned phrase or sentence to describe that which we see, hear about or do. Peace
Saw him in Manchester last year and was just blown away - this was my favourite (though he did a version on Refugee as a tribute to Tom Petty that we also amazing!)
That has also been a technique used by many guitarist to make the strings a little more loose. Makes it easier to pretty much do everything, especially playing lead. I haven't seen much of Isbell, but judging by the solo he played, I would bet he's been tuning his guitar down a step for a while. It was a great solo that would be even more difficult to play if the strings were tighter.

preach. i shouldn't drink as much as i do and Isbell is a great example for us. good for you for addressing your shit. you're a great example too.
I cannot imagine listening to him sober.
But he makes me feel I will be sober.
@@rustbeltprogressive3968 You will be brother. It takes time.
Isbell is a rare talent. Triple threat as a singer, songwriter and accomplished picker.

you left out effortlessly cool guy
@@cccnieh2468 From the few comments I've seen on social media, he's also got a feckin' hilarious sense of humor
@@-GuitarZero For sure. It's all through his intros to song as well.

Swear that one is the killer line in this song. It's all pretty but that one points.
Who else thinks Jason is a good singer? Yeah!I absolutely loved it!!

Roger Sharman I agree

Check out Tyler Childers!
My new go to voice every day.
Now that Guy Clark and Townes have laid their burdens down, I'm grateful for a talent of this magnitude in these weird times.

North Mississippi kid here. Love this song.
"ain't no one from here that'll follow me there" - fantastic line and fantastic escape in my head.

Possibly my favourite melody of all time
Tried to put this on in the background and couldn't do it. It's too beautiful. I had to watch and listen with full attention, there's no other choice
Same. It's so nuanced and perfect in every way that I have to drink in every drop, every time.
This song is downright perfect.
Every now and then they come along..thank God for this gem! Could listen to his songs all day
Love him solo, and at 2 acoustics, 2 voices, & 4 mics, he's perfect.
Studio adds nothing i need or want.

No, there ain't no one from here that'll follow me there
She said there's nothing left to talk about
At my age I should've figured out
Which drawer to put the good knives in
And the wars between the weekend store and the playhouse town
I kept her close, but way too close to me
She never lived up to my memory
Driving fast with the windows down
A past I don't belong to now, a mystery
I get out of this hole I'm goin' to Tupelo
There's a girl out there that will treat me fair
You get about a week of spring and then Summer is blistering
So there ain't no one from here that'll follow me there
No, there ain't no one from here that'll follow me there

There's not one line, one chord in this song that isn't absolutely perfection.
I read that as only one instead of not one
I was thinking where .
Which one ?
In a class of his own...amazing

Well he just beat out Gregg Allman on a Grammy so...
He is the finest songwriter of this generation and possibly of the last 30 yrs.........

rock and roll blues country classical pop opera whatever when this song starts u just continue to listen for some reason
Fantastic
This song does for me what alcohol used to do and I love that
god damn this is good
interesting that he tunes down a whole step then capos at 4th fret. I imagine that's how he gets the killer tone......that and a 5K guitar!
If We Were Vampires is tuned a step down. Guess he just didn’t feel like retuning

I play in a band and our guitarist tunes down a step because we play key of F a lot. That way he strums in G and doesn't have to play a bar chords.
Amen!
Need a shade tree and a pool of cool water down here in Tupelo, yeah Elvis would be happy. As we all liked this.
oh hell yeah
dude in the sunglasses is in the band Drivin N Cryin
George Red Hawk He use to be. He's been with Isbell for a couple of years now.
He still plays with D&C sometimes.
Now they have Little Joe
I also think he's in a band called Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. Don't quote me, though.
