So calming to watch. Random noises breaking the quiet. This is like a spa visit though I've never been to a spa but I'm pretty sure that's where they take the rust off of people and make them shiny and renewed.

Just had to make a new spring steel spring plate for mine from the steel off an old saw , the fixing screw was striped so I drilled a hole though and fitted a small bolt and profiled the nut on the outside. High quality steel this is made from so I used three sizes of bit with oil to get though it.great job on yours by the way!

Perfect fix it and not destroy the look very well done .i am big on not destroying the look that only time can give. And im glad you change you're mind about the restoration of this tool . Sometimes less is more and this is one of those times ty.

When it came out of the rust removal bath I thought, why even bother, this thing is not worth the effort. However as the process continued I had to pull the chair up closer to the monitor thinking this is going to be good. Yes indeed great restro, and it works. I saw one of those tools made in brass on another channel, and instantly thought, gotta have one of those tools. That spinning wheel on the grinder gets a little scary. As always you do great work...Ken

BB - What is the solution and method for rust removal? My wife has found an old cast iron piece she loves and wishes to restore it. It is about 3' high, 10" or so in diameter a bit larger at the base. The metal is intact but surface rust is all over, cannot get wire wheel on the inside. I was thinking of using this method in a drum of sufficient size.

I dunno.. It's just a preferance, but i couldn't get myself as far as to sand my leg vice when i got it. The furthest i got was just cleaning it up with an abrasive wheel.
Just feels like I'm taking away from the tool's personality when i grind out nicks and scrapes.
Unless of course it impares preformance, then i completely understand
