What type of wood are you using? Could a birch/bass plywood be used since you aren't carving too deeply? ( I know bass is typical in chip carving but it's uncommon near me)
i have olny seen david bull do this and by listening to him i don't think he would aprove of the traceing because it doesn't make smooth natural organic shapes and in craving it is hard to get your image clear and smooth
Don't call it Japanese woodblock printmaking. She just used some Japanese tools and a little bit techniques. the true Japanese woodblock printmaking process is much more complicated and skillful. Printmakers have to be trained even for a decade to learn skills.
