Have and use 24mm 1.4 GM, 24-70mm 2.8 GM, 135mm 1.8 GM, Sony A1. The 24 and 135 are best Sony lenses I’ve owned. The 35 & 50:GM are certainly in same category.
Still with 2 kit lens at the “moment” lol. I currently shoot with the 6400 aps-c I want the lens still so bad even accepting it would be a 50mm focal point instead of a 35...Do you think other than if I use 50mm all the time..that the lens will still be great? And if not are there 15mm to act just as good as this 35 Lens you can recommend??
I see what you did there lol There are two ways to look at this...1. Save your moment and upgrade your camera to full-frame (totally work the benefit of a larger sensor). 2. or when it's available, rent it first to see how you like it on your camera body.
I have already 24GM and 85Batis.. would love to add 35GM as my final piece of glass for my A7R3 kit. Currently I'm using 24GM almost exclusively on my camera for a 'pleasure' shots and use 85Batis for work. Still I do prefer 35mm over 24mm focal and I've been waiting for this lens tbf
I will definitely pick this up as soon as I can justify the price point, along with the 50/1.2GM, both are stellar glasses and priced accordingly. BTW Sony's linear drive system was introduced quite a few year ago, I believe with the 55/1.8 ZA, but indeed they keep optimizing that ever since. Now it is 85/1.4GM turn to reborn, as pretty much just that is sticking out of the GM family.
I have this lens pre-ordered to use with my A7SIII setup. A bit of focus breathing, for sure, but I'll take that to have great performance and weather sealing vs the 35 f/1.8 that I'm using now!

@@NikHem343 There is no focus breathing on the 35 f/1.8 if that is really what worries you. I don't have my 35 f/1.4GM yet so I can't compare, but I really like the image out of the 35 f/1.8 on my A7sIII. I also like that its TINY. The last few videos on my own channel have footage with that lens on it (if it has A7sIII in the title that is, still a couple videos with my panasonic cameras recently.)

Very tempted by this lens. I’ve got the Sony Zeiss 35mm that has served me well over the years. Every comparison I’ve seen has favored the new GM in just about every regard.
Good question - the 35mm 1.4 GM offers a new AF system - which performs faster than the 35mm 1.8. Opacity the 1.4 will have less Chromatic aberration vs the 1.8.

I truly believe in Sony's auto focus system. They own the space right now. But why auto focus on a static talking head shot?

You can use eye auto focus, ensures your correctly focused🔥

The FE 35/1.8 has no focus breathing, this has a ton! Not usable for video in my opinion.
For video you're definitely better with the cheaper lens. The benefits of the GM are really for stills.
