They were all brilliant on the show, but Bea Arthur (Dorothy) was the glue who made it work. Without her, the other characters would not have been effective. You needed her straight-man irritation, and her biting wit. She was the Moe Howard/Groucho Marx of the group.
That last clip was from where dorothy got married and moved out of the house it was the end of the golden girls and set the stage for the golden palace where rose blanche and sophia ran a hotel
Yes you have got to start looking at the Golden Palace a lot of people didn’t know about the Golden Palace it’s a spinoff a continuation of the golden girls without Dorothy she does come in on what episode split into part one and part two and she comes to visit but that’s it they did ask her to come back to played Dorothy on the Golden Palace but she turned it down it only lasted one season 24 episodes 1993 I think it’s just as funny as the golden girls
Dorothy was a true savage, it was awesome! And YES!!! Please please do All in the Family, Archie Bunker... it’s on now still with repeats & it’s the BEST... the episodes where he pretends to commit suicide when his wife tells a story still make me laugh til i cant stop 🖤
I think it's safe to say that Dorothy was my favorite Golden Girl. In my opinion she was the funniest, with her quick and sharp wit but Sophia would be a close second. Archie Bunker was funny.. I'll just put this up right now in advance; "Will you stifle ?!?!" Once you start watching Archie Bunker videos you might find out what that means..
You had to live back then to understand a lot of what Dorothy was talking about. There was nothing like the Archie Bunker and Sanford and Son show. The Carol Burnett show was the best of all for me.

You may or may not know the context, but back around the time of the Golden Girls, the Coca Cola company came out with the "new" Coke and changed the flavor. There was a huge backlash against this and they changed the flavor back to the original Coke. .

You were expecting the same 'zip zing' the others have...and she doesn't, which is what made her funny. IDK but i could have sworn I heard back in the day that Bea Arthur (Dorothy) did not want too many jokes on the show that had to do with events at the time because years later nobody would get the joke maybe im wrong or the writers just did their thing. Maybe she knew more than they did that people would still be watching the show 20 years later. The show does have a lot of inconsistencies where the writers were just writing for the moment to get a joke in. In back story scene Rose meets Blanche holding a cat but later on they say shes allergic to cats. For the most part tho the women, their jobs, kids stayed pretty consistent. But younger people watching the show now wouldn’t get a lot of it when certain celebrities and events from that time are the punchline. As for the episode with Dorothy left they did make it funny with her popping in from different doors.

It is a shame they are all passed, except Betty White or Rose, is the only one still living. Betty had always played seductive type characters like in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"! I believe Betty is now around 96 yrs. old now. God Bless her!! Betty is a very big animal activist!! When Dorothy was leaving in the end it was for good, she had just got married a second time!! The end of the TV series!!

Very very true which is why I didn't think much of the Golden Palance. Without Bea Arthur the show fell apart.
