    For those complaining about the stop sign coming out as cars are passing, let me give you a tip.
    Buses don't just have a stop sign, they also has yellow caution lights that start blinking about 10-15 seconds before the bus actually stops.
    A bus always stops before the sign comes out. I've never in my life seen a bus with the sign out before it stops. Fact in, the oncoming motorist should of already been slowing down due to the caution lights, KNOWING the stop sign is about to pop out at any second.
    Caution lights means the bus is slowing down and about to stop. Stop sign means stop, children are getting off.

      Sometimes the driver will flash the yellow lights for a long time before the stop sign goes out. You never know when the sign will come out. A good school bus driver would be aware of the cars around them and not put the sign out one second before a car is passing the bus.

      Sheron Windsor I still have to hold the same position on this, watch at 0:59 the bus wasn't even stopped yet and the sign comes out right when the cars front bumper is passing the buses, there is just no danger what so ever not to mention it's really not illegal since the stop sign wasn't out yet. It may well be against better judgement to not stop when you see the yellow flashing lights however the way they are ticketing in this video is just wrong and comes across as a form of entrapment.

      I don't know where you, rsx123 or you Kevin Buton, live but in the United states of American, in ALL states, ALL school buses are equipped with Amber lights that are directly aside the RED lights at the top of the bus. When a school bus is coming to a bus stop, the driver is to activate the AMBER lights PRIOR to the actual stop. So the bus gives all cars warning that it will be stopping soon. In New Jersey we are to activate the amber lights 300 feet prior to the actual bus stop. That is approximately 3 utility poles distance apart. Just like an amber light at an intersection. Depending on the rate of speed permitted on the roads that intersect at that light the amber light comes on and stays on for 3 to 5 seconds before the red light. I suggest you google for a little information on how the lights work on a school bus

    They should only hand out tickets to drivers who where a reasonable distance from the bus when the yellow lights came on. Not to drivers where the bus flung the door open, without first arming the amber lights for a reasonable distance to warn others of the bus stop. Usually I never have this problem around where I live, yet some people run through the red lights even after they were on for a minute! Don't wanna run over some kids! You can speed all over town (yeah I said it, get bent) but not near buses or schools...

      I will admit this bus driver was a bit unpredictable because she stopped so quickly and barely gave distance for the drivers to stop, if the school system is in a large city i would honestly recommend the school have children’s bus stops arranged on or near crosswalks. In basics most people know to slow near a cross walk, it’s called stopping distance and most people will be able to slow at a cross walk ( where stopping is expected ) and will be less likely to run the bus lights. But if you paid attention in drivers ed you’d know that on most of these roads there is a ‘child at play’ or ‘bus’ sign that signals to drivers to be cautious with their driving and be ready to stop. Look for other videos on this topic and you’ll see that no matter how much stopping distance these people are given they will still run the sign, or in some cases they’ll even hit children.

Just watch and you'll see what I mean...

      Thomas Neumann The driver presses a button to activate the warning lights. The stop sign does not extend until the door is actually opened. I agree with 2010V6RAV4, the driver is activating the lights and stopsign when a vehicle would have no chance of stopping. Most sane drivers will have the bus stopped, with lights on, until traffic is clear or far enough off that they can stop safely. This case here, is just stupid. This is also why I like driving with a dashcam.

  • @csx7527

    Bus drivers are required to activate the yellow flashing lights on the bus at least 100 feet before stopping while in a 35 mph zone or less, and at least 300 feet when they are in a speed zone of 35 mph or more. One idea is to treat the yellow flashing lights on the bus as being red. In other words, plan on stopping if you can. If you are already going around or meeting the bus and the yellow flashing lights come on, then of course you would continue. If you are way back and the yellow lights start flashing, then plan to stop unless for some reason the situation dictates otherwise. Driving past or meeting a school bus transporting children can be a hazard, so again, slow down and be prepared to stop if needed. Remember that when you stop for a school bus stop arm and sign, you have to stop at least 20 feet away from the bus, and you can’t start moving your vehicle until the sign goes in and the red lights stop flashing. This information is for you Idiots that don't understand.

We had a high school girl killed here because another high school kid blew past a bus stopped with its lights on. His truck was a POS and he could barely see out the window or some shit.
      Also anyone claiming the drivers didn't have enough time to stop. Any bus I've seen requires the yellows to be activated, then the reds are activated by opening the door or pressing the button on the handle to open the door. There is no way to activate the reds without the yellows first.

    Also most of these you cannot activate the red stop lights without activating the yellow ones first. The driver activated the yellows, then once the door is open , or the button to open the door is pressed, the red lights activate.
    So it would be impossible to have the red lights on if they did not activate the yellows.

    Entrapment!!!! How the hell can someone stop when they are on top of the bus right at the hood. cars can't stop on a dam dime.. at :58 seconds she flings the door open engaging the stop arm. The black automobile is right in line with the hood of the bus. That is not enough time for them to come to a complete stop. if the driver of the black automobile got a ticket he or she should have hopefully sued for entrapment.

      You don't know school buses, apparently. Having been a passenger on a school bus not even two years ago, I know very well how they work. On some opening systems, especially that one, there is either a button to press to activate the warning lights, or a switch that is triggered by pulling the handle. The stop arm is activated once the (second) switch is triggered, by opening the door, even slightly. On that type of door system, that's exactly how it works. She has to press a button, then open the door to activate the stop arm. That will also activate, even when you're doing 60mph down the interstate.

  • @ChristakyMe
    @ChristakyMe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    When flashing yellow lights appear on a school bus you treat them as a solid yellow light as you would on a traffic light. Are you surprised when the light turns red at an intersection? No you expect it and slow down to prepare for a stop. This applies with school buses.

      haha. Finally some one with some sense. I can't believe all these people bitching, acting like they have never seen a school bus before. Every bus I have seen you must activate the yellows before the reds will activate. It is impossible to activate the reds without the yellows as a warning.

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in Atlanta, GA and our school buses here actually can activate the reds without the yellows. Some forget to turn on the caution lights and they'll open the doors and notice that the stop arm isn't out and then his the button which automatically brings out the reds without the yellow's. The newer buses they have now are better at alerts so drivers can tell clearly if their lights aren't on or if they are.

    Good work, officers. Bust these boneheads who ignore the LAW about stopping for a school bus. For those of you who comment on this video saying there wasn't time for the drivers to stop, you're flat WRONG. A bus gives ample warning with flashing yellow lights, so if you're paying attention, you know that a stop is about to happen. Obey the law, and stop endangering young, innocent lives (our children) with your inattentive and dangerous driving. I hope these drivers all received an expensive citation!

    • @DECTSwolf
      @DECTSwolf 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are correct. However, bus drivers should also be courteous enough to not activate stop arm when you are mere feet from the front bumper. Any good bus driver will allow traffic to pass before activating the stop arm. I very much agree with those claiming that this is entrapment. With one or two vehicles within a short distance, the driver can wait five seconds for the vehicles to pass before the kids are even let off the bus.

    • @thelasthallow
      @thelasthallow 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silent Paw you are an idiot. this is not entrapment. when the lights start flashing yellow you dont just speed through like a yellow light on a road. you fucking stop. there are kids on board so any excuse is bullshit. YOU STOP and that is that.

    • @rhilton1881
      @rhilton1881 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silent Paw Sorry, Paw, but those lights mean something and drivers are given ample time to slow down and stop. The bus drivers have enough to do and more important things to think about to safely transport their precious cargo, our kids. Considering the traffic behind them to pass before activating the stop signs is a noble idea, but I don't want them to have to do that. If you're behind a school bus, be prepared to stop! Entrapment? Of course not!

    • @DECTSwolf
      @DECTSwolf 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @DECTSwolf
      @DECTSwolf 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick Hilton
      You're absolutely right, in the thought that drivers should be more courteous to buses. You mentioned that allowing traffic behind to pass is a good idea. I don't care about traffic behind, they stop when the bus does. In Ontario, where my knowledge is coming from, as long as that stop arm has not extended, you are not /required/ to stop, if in oncoming lane. [Buses have signage on the back, 'Do Not Pass When Signals Flashing']
      Bus drivers take advantage of that fact and stop with the warning lights on, before opening the door, letting the kids off, and allowing the stop arm to extend. This allows fast travelling, oncoming traffic to clear, without them having to slam on the brakes and cause a three car pileup.
      In this video, I observed the bus driver opening the door, at times, before the vehicle even stopped fully.
      We need to understand that while yes, kids are on the bus, they are not let off, until it is safe for them to do so. Or, so is the idea. That door is the last line of defence, so to speak. If the driver waits for approaching traffic to stop fully, with the door just slightly open, the stop arm extended, but the door not open far enough for kids to get through (This is not difficult with older models,) then there is very little risk of injury or death.
      In a perfect world, with ideal conditions, what you say about drivers being given enough time to slow and stop, that would be true. Unfortunately, all lights and bus functions are at the control of the bus driver, and each driver may have different timing, or may not give enough advanced warning for other vehicles.
      When I suggest that this video shows entrapment, I cannot see the ambers flashing, and thus do not know when they are activated. All I can see is the door being thrown open to extend the stop arm, with another vehicle a very short distance from the front of the bus.
      Around here, if a driver was faced with that situation, a vehicle approaching, most drivers would not activate the stop arm, until after that first vehicle had gone, as it was too close to stop safely.. Once the second vehicle clearly begins slowing, then the driver would activate the stop arm. Yes, the first driver should have slowed when they saw the warning lights, but, for whatever reason, perhaps they did not see, coming around a curve. Drivers should be attentive, yes. But, it sometimes happens. We don't live in a perfect world. I wish we did, though. It would solve a lot of problems.

    The whole "stop for buses" law (not sure the proper name) is completely idiotic, we don't have to do that for public buses and school buses should be no different. If a child needs to cross the street, they need to do so at a cross walk where it is designated, not right where the bus drops them off. This is one of the many reasons why people in america are becoming sheep. When I was a kid (I'm 24 now) if I ran into the street and got hit by a car, guess who's fault it was. MINE! You know why? I'll tell you, it's because I was the stupid kid who ran into the road in front of a car instead of looking both ways and crossing at the proper place. If we would just go back to people looking out for themselves we would be a whole lot better off. We'd go back to the intelligent surviving and the stupid dying which would make our generations a lot more intelligent as time goes on. As it is now, we are keeping people alive who are at most a detriment to future society.

      100% agreed. I feel like our current "education system" is actually dumbing us down in the long run, and you gave a perfect example of why. This is the reason people expect so much out of the government and depend on welfare programs, instead of supporting themselves. (Excluding the elderly and disabled which I understand they depend on some program of support). But if you're completely able to get off your lazy ass and get a job, you're independent enough to support yourself. This is the problem with current day Americans. They see all the benefits they can get by making excuses and not having to put forth any effort.

And you know, there aren't crosswalks everywhere. Where I live, there are NONE. So while I think you had the right idea, it isn't fool proof. You gotta remember we're talking about young children here, people who don't have the same common sense as you do. They're still learning.

    • @DarknessLPs

      Sydney P Perhaps, but if they are so young that they do not have the ability to cross the street properly or are not intelligent enough to do so for some reason, they should have an adult accompany them. If crosswalks are not available, there are implied crosswalks at every 4 way stop. Also, buses carrying students should ALWAYS stop in traffic minimal areas or in designated bus stop areas (in larger cities with public transit). I believe that there are laws governing where a bus can and cannot stop as well which many school bus drivers do not obey simply because they know that an officer will not stop them for such an "oversight" of the law.

    The stop arm is tied in to the red lights and the door. When the door handle is popped the circuit activates the red lights and the stop arm, regardless of how far the door is open. Some buses have a lever with a hole which fits over a "bolt" on top of the handle. When the lever is flipped up and the handle pops out from the locked position, the yellow lights shut off and the reds kick on and at the same time the stop arm extends.

Think about it the other drivers know the bus is going to stop but don't know exactly where the bus is going to stop, most of which slow down but are too close to the bus to stop safely when the driver deploys the stop arm. I had a car almost get rear ended last week for stopping abruptly for my school bus. Ive even had semi trucks stop next to my bus because they couldn't get stopped in time and causing the kids to have to run around stopped trucks to get on the bus causing another dangerous situation. I always hold students on the bus until all traffic is completely stopped before I even open the door.

      Well first let me tell you just how cool and educated with your swearing..... Dude they're kids. Most of the time I looked both ways when I was little and was going to cross mostly cuz my momma would have whooped me if I didn't but kids make mistakes sometimes. Also what if its a really busy road and its hard to cross. This just makes it safer for everyone. Nothing worth getting to worked up about. God bless Brotha

    If police would reasonably enforce all traffic laws like this, they would pay for all the costs of their police department and the roads would be safe for law abiding drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
    Additionally, those that constantly break traffic laws, who pose higher insurance risks, would get appropriately higher insurance rates. Safe, law abiding drivers would get appropriately lower rates. Everyone wins except high risk law breakers.

    Yes, but those hazard lights are not just for letting kids off a bus(even if it was more likely) That would cause more confusion for instance if the bus was breaking down and simply pulling off to the side with no plans to pick up or drop off anyone. What NEEDS to be done is actual "bus stops" to be built like we have for public transportation. That would be much safer and people would know exactly what is going on.

    All school buses flash yellow lights when coming to a stop indicating to the oncoming driver to slow down, then they flash red a good few seconds before they actually come to a stop again telling the driver to stop and giving them time to do so, then the sign goes out. You will learn this in drivers training when you are old enough.

    When I had someone want to argue with me about stopping; I’d ask them to define what stop meant? Most couldn’t. Then I would tell them and add an analogy. Stop: the cessation of movement. If I were beating and you told me to stop, would you be happy if I kept hitting you by just slowing down?
    They got the point. Retired 20 years ago.

    As a former PA State Trooper, this is whats called entrapment and snatch. At which these State Troopers are commiting a fraud to the system at which they are suppose to protect.. So in my personal opinon, all the drivers who were caught running past the school bus should contact lawyers and have the tickets thrown out, because the only one who can issue the tickets is the officer who observed the offense which were on the bus, not in the patrol cars.

    Technically doesnt mean to hurry and blow through it. Thats what people judge it as. Yellow just means, its bout to turn red and if you have the time to stop, then stop, if you dont, then go through it. Once a bus comes to a stop the red light comes on. You should be well prepared to stop before it stops. Same goes with the stop light, you dont stop right as it turns red, you get prepared to stop before it turns red.

  • @PolishGuy89
    @PolishGuy89 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, people. School Buses have TWO sets of lights, Yellow, and Red. When the Yellow are flashing, that means the bus is coming to a stop, and you need to SLOW DOWN and PREPARE to STOP, just like when a traffic light turns yellow. None of these cars were slowing down at all... Doesn't matter if the bus didn't stop yet, a kid could have started crossing the road from the other side of the street to get on the bus...

  • @SUFI194189

    Buses have a caution light genius. A flash yellow light, means to slow down. They turn them on way before they stop. Its the same principle as a stop light at an intersection.

    The amber warning lights activated 200 feet prior to the stop is ample warning. That warns the motorists that the red lights will be activated immediately upon the bus stopping. The motorists need to start slowing down when they see the ambers in anticipation that the bus will be stopping and the reds activated. You, as a school bus driver should know this. The red lights on top of the bus are already flashing even if the stop arm is still in the process of deploying.

    One of our buses that I drove was great during the pre-trip inspection, but when I went to drop off kids, I opened the doors and the yellows remained on. The lever switch got stuck and I had to poke at it and it worked normally. Cars did pass, but since the yellows were on, no violation of the law.

    Amber warning lights are to be activated at 100 feet going 35 or less, 300 feet going 36 and over. I open my door to activate my red lights but I NEVER let the child off the bus until vehicles have stopped. They had also been trained to never cross a road unless I give them the okay.

    I think the people below that are making excuses for these drivers wouldn't have kids that ride the bus or wouldn't work with kids at all. As a teacher, it's shocking when kids tell me they were nearly run over while trying to get on the bus because cars constantly pass the bus with the lights on.

    Apparently a lot of the individuals posting comments about this video have the lack of knowledge about the flashing lights of the school bus before it even stops. You are given ample time to slow down to allow for a stop. A bus never suddenly stops and then turns it's flashers on. A bus driver will have those lights on seconds before the stop. You have plenty of time to do so. Learn to be a safe driver and considerate of the lives of others as well as the law. Tickets well deserved.

    As a Certified school bus driving instructor, this driver probably was never taught the skill of the pause before opening the door. In Illinois, drivers are taught to check all mirrors & traffic to make sure people are stopping before activating the red light system, thus giving drivers the chance to recognize what is happening with the bus. This bus driver just pops the reds on without pause, she's going to cause a pile up one day!

    I agree you shouldn't pass a school bus when the sign is out but what I don't agree with is that if your less then 5 feet away and the sign comes out you shouldn't have to stop. Because if you have to stop short it can cause an accident. Here in NY the school buses wait until cars are far enough away to pull the sign so drivers have time to slow down and stop safely.

  • @gazebodp
    @gazebodp 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is more then enough time. Those lights are flashing on the top of the bus before it even stops. If you don't think that the bus is going to stop with flashing lights on the top then you don't need to be on the road. Just because the sign isn't fully out, or it may even be we can't see it, doesn't mean you shouldn't stop knowing the bus is going to stop.

    There are seven inch amber lights at the front and back of the bus. They are activated way before the stop, then the red warning lights and the stop sign deploy. The amber lights are there to tell the driver to slow down and prepare to stop. No excuses, the drivers in the passing cars in this video broke the law.

      +Ernesto Martinez it just looked like to me that atleast 1 if not a few were just too close to even stop. Then others just blew through. Maybe the buses should put on their lights and and sign out then have like a 10 second delay before they let the kids off. Gotta make some kind of change

      They probably do wait a few seconds before having the kids load and unload. That doesn't mean drivers can run the red lights in those few seconds. These work just like a traffic light. Everyone knows what happens after a yellow light. They just hope to beat it instead of slowing down and preparing to stop.

    As a former bus driver, I've had encounters with people who blow the stop. I'd get a vehicle description, plate number, and driver description and go to the police. Then they, the police, would issue a ticket. Usually the people ticketed wouldn't fight it, but sometimes they would. I wish state police would randomly do this in every state. It's either that or have a driver hit a kid.

    Two competing tests exist for determining whether entrapment has taken place, known as the "subjective" and "objective" tests. The "subjective" test looks at the defendant's state of mind; entrapment can be claimed if the defendant had no "predisposition" to commit the crime. The "objective" test looks instead at the government's conduct; entrapment occurs when the actions of government officers would have caused a normally law-abiding person to commit a crime.
