  • Welcome to my Ford F-150 PowerBoost build series. In this episode I cover all of the performance upgrades that I have added. This episode features a Corsa Cold Air Intake, Roush Cold Air Intake, CVF Intercooler, and a Turbo Smart blow-off valve. I also did some VERY extensive MPG testing and 0-60 runs as well to test the overall performance of these mods.

    I have a '22 F150 hybrid 2wd supercrew that is stock. On my highway/city mix I am seeing about 23-25MPG on a 30 mile one way trip. I have gotten 31mpg, but I was going in 50-55mph traffic for only 10 miles. I have found on highways if you keep it about 66-67MPH you will get 25+mpg. At 70mph I get more around 23-24MPG, and at 75MPH I get closer to 22-23MPG. I would also note that I am in SE Texas with mostly flat roads. I have also found that if you do not use cruise control, you can "coast" up hills with only allowing a little bit of MPH decrease, and then gain the speed back going down hills or flat road. If I see a hill coming I try to slowly gain a little speed to compensate that way when I lose some MPH I am still going my original speed or close to it. I can see a huge increase of MPG even going 70MPH.

    Livernois tune made a big difference in mine, if u are looking for quick seat of the pants improvement get after it. Thing is angry in sport mode. Only complaint is that they just send the tunes u request without any info as to what changes were made. Just the octane u request or tow tune. Other than that it’s an immediate very noticeable difference. Also just installed AFE’s new CAI for it ( momentum XP) and although didnt expect or feel any real power increase it is far higher quality unit than the others available, looks very sexy under the hood, and can hear the turbos a bit more. The two pipe aluminum set up is really nice looking and it all fits tight, no slop. Of course more pricey as well though but worth the higher quality components. Just couldn’t wait for Cobb to release a carbon fiber unit, those things are gorgeous.

      If you don't want the generator option, then they're pretty much identical power trains. Yota has slightly more pwr and trq. Both are so new and will have their bugs. I believe the ecoboost motor from Ford is a Gen 3 in the powerboost, compared to Yota being a Gen 1. Just assuming this part though, Yota probably tore apart the ecoboost motor and made it better than Ford's Gen 3.

      I think it’s awesome for people who work in construction or any other scenarios where you might be in the truck while at idle. It is REALLY awesome to have the truck running on battery only with the engine only kicking in once and a while to recharge the battery. It’s also a better option with the 7.2kw generator. The added HP and Torque is pretty great too but MPG alone probably isn’t compelling enough to pull the trigger on the PowerBoost in my opinion.

    Good effort, however, your comparison is useless... These trucks have an adaptive self learning ECU.... with every change you should reset the ECU and go through the relearn. Changing anything without the relearn will more than likely throw those affected parameters out of optimal

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Real world testing, the self learning ECU is actively reading air intake flow, temps, fuel octane, timing, and a zillion other parameters. If it were 1993 then yes you would be correct but modern ECU’s are making millions of calculations per second based on real-time data. This is why you can pull up to a gas pump and fill up 87, 93, or ethanol (in certain vehicles) without needing to reset ecu’s.

    • @randyschmidt19

      Not trying to convince anyone of anything. Just reporting my findings good, bad, or indifferent. The problem is that “it’s been debunked” isnt a true statement. That blanket “debunked” statement pretends like every engine is identical regardless of naturally aspirated / forced induction, widely varying aerodynamic drag, regular vs premium, and ecu / pcm programming adjustments in real-time arent identical in every vehicle. I think your “debunked” has been “debunked” by my results and should be modified to “results may vary”.
