    Hi! I'm a ballet dancer who just started working on the ice as an adult. I'm generally a good jumper but I'm still getting used to the weight of the skates. Just started learning a single flip and a waltz jump. Excited to add this to my routine.

    I dance ballet, but i really want to jump higher... Figure skaters do jump high XD I use one pound weight on my ankles and 1/2 a pound on my wrist. so I guess i'll get a little bit more of weight for my jumps. Thanks!

      You can also try jumping onto a platform. My gym has this. It has multiple tiers for height. What this type of practice does is it trains your fast-twitch muscle fibers to be more responsive, explosive, and stronger. Fast twitch muscle fibers have large motor neurons and engage type 2, type B muscle fibers -- which means, you're directly targeting the right muscle fibers through explosive jumps and other techniques.

    Great idea! Question for you regarding the weights. My daughter is now 10, doing doubles in figure skating, but is very small...weighing only 50-52 pounds. What amount of weight would you suggest that she try these exercises with? Susan

    Have you thought about using a weighted vest instead of holding a dumbell?

      +naomi chambers Yes but never wanted to spend the extra money.

      ***** I have two little boys I am teaching to skate. I want to find a way to help them with their jumping, but I don't want them holding anything in their hands.

      ***** I just googled "weighted vest", those are not cheap

      +naomi chambers Certain sports like basketball and track (hurdles) will help them develop motor control. And other sports like soccer and or football will help them develop power and speed. Martial arts will help out a lot too.

      ***** Thank you for the ideas. I think soccer would be a good sport for both of them. They are pretty young (4 and 5). I tried martial arts, but they don't like it. Right now I have them in swimming, dance, and ice skating. They skate 4 days a week.

    Any tips on how to spin faster in the air?

    • @xtremeiceskating
      @xtremeiceskating  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lead with hip, whip head into direction of spin while bringing in arms to chest very fast as well. Remain eyes focus. Don't look up. Don't look down. The less wobble in the air, the faster the spin.
