Congrats on the 500 subs ! Physical comfort aside , there is something to be said about how one feels emotionally in their surroundings , living in a grey box is not my idea of comfort , having brightness , color , and warmth , can do wonders for ones emotional state , being far away from familiarity is hard enough on ones psyche , so spend a little more on yourself , I believe in the long run it's well worth the investment , hope you are both doing well , take care , Peace ...
Thanks, if you look at the pictures of the places they look really nice. Unfortunately some of them were awful and that's why you need to see a property before renting it. Luckily we found a really nice place which Claire will do a tour of next week. There are hundreds of places for rent and they are building more, so it takes weeks to find that perfect place. As always a very wise comment MMAM.
You're absolutely right! Jeremy did all of the apartment hunting while I was at work, so I only saw the one that we will move into next week. I don't think I would have liked any of the others. We really like the place we live at the moment, but we're after a change. There are some negatives about living here - might make a little video about those.
Congratulations on getting 500 subscribers 👏. Great video Jeremy, Looking forward to seeing your new place. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of what and where is best to live in Siem Reap. Cheers 🍻
Thanks a lot Graham, been a fun and frustrating ride. Who would have even imagined 2020 would turn out like this. Anyway we are alive and maybe a bit more motivated to live life and take some chances. With the road widening some units will be affected but after they will be prime places to live. It's so tiring riding down roads full of pot holes and muddy puddles. Anyway the new place is really nice, in a new area to explore.
I thought all of the places were bad. I have found a lot of nice places on the IPS website in the price range of $250 to $300 and located in Sala Kamreuk area.
We found a good one in the end. There's always a compromise or two to be made at the lower end of the pricing scale. IPS website is great for an overview of what's around.
Great stuff on the 500! I am a big fan any form of separation of shower and dunny. I never really understood the whole wet area thing, especially when a lot of them create mouldy environments. Looking forward to the new place reveal 👍
Thanks Mate, it was going to be a different Vlog but a series of unfortunate events let to this. The one we picked was a random one at the end, Claire will do a complete apartment tour after we move in. Congratulations to you also, on your 500!
Gee, the fourth rural house, found it hard to comprehend how any real estate would show anyone a house with a stench from the fridge. Especially when as you say plenty of places on the market. Looking forward to what you actually picked. Thanks again for the tour, stay safe.
The realestate can only show what they have got. It's strange as there are hundreds of empty units and hotel rooms but they would rather have it empty and maybe get a tenant for $200 or reduce it to $100 and rent it out for 3 months and then aee what's happening in the market. The forth place was the owners fault for not cleaning the unit before we got there, the smell was eye watering.
If you ever need any help just let us know. Take your time, there is hundreds of properties to choose from. Don't be afraid of getting a 3 month lease and moving apartments every few months if you want.
The Royal Gardens area is probably the leafiest and prettiest part of Siem Reap, but not much going on in terms of good local restaurants and supermarkets. Depends what you are after and whether you'll ride a moto.
@@ForRiel I'll be walking mostly or taking a tuk-tuk. The Royal Gardens area seems within walking distance (15 minutes) of Pub Street, restaurants, grocery shopping. I'm retired so I have lots of time for walking.
@@ianbaker5204 taking a PassApp to most places will cost you $1, so that's a good option. It gets so hot here that walking during the day is very unpleasant.
@@ForRiel I was in Siem Reap for 4 days in 2019. I know about the heat/humidity. I sweat a lot. You've said that you've been in SR for about a year. Has your body adapted to the heat?
@@ianbaker5204 oh, that's good - you know what it's like then. I think you get better at grinning and bearing it, but the heat itself is pretty hard to take, and I don't think we're used to it. It's cooler at the moment, but we use a lot of air con in the hot season, and that's another reason for moving to this new apartment.
We found a good one, perfect for us. Leaving it for Claire to do the full apartment tour. You can get some amazing deals at the moment. They have dropped some rents by over $100 a month.
@@BIGJED75 oh good for you.look forward to seeing it. I had to give up my room, so will need another one but with the restrictions Cambodia has imposed on entry and Australia’s travel ban, I won’t be coming back for a time.
There are so many choices and lots of hotels and guesthouses are also doing cracking monthly deals. I think the abundance of choice makes it more difficult!
Many of the landlords used to ask for a 6-month lease as a minimum, but now anything goes, and monthly is not a problem for most places. It does vary, but there are so many options that you can find a place that you like with conditions that suit.
At the moment you could easily get a short contract or sometimes no contract at all. But shorter the contract, less bargaining power you have. Saying that landlords are extremely motivated to get tenants so nothing is off the table.
Because you just can't tell from the photos - there are often photos of several apartments mixed in together so you can't tell which ones are from which apartment. It's important to get a feel for the different areas, too.
Thanks for your visit my country CAMBODIA 🇰🇭🙏🏻💝🥰

@@ForRiel I will buy you guys and Dave a beer when I'm settled in. Both of your channels have been very helpful.
I have stayed in many Asian countries for months on end and the cost of Siam reap electricity is not particularly expensive.
It's ok, and it is offset by the low cost of rent and everything else. If it wasn't for our aircon use, our bill would be quite small 😃

Thanks for your comment about using hotel swimming pools rather than renting an apartment with a swimming pool.
No worries! And the best thing? You can go to a different hotel every time and have a change of scenery. Thanks for watching!
Howdy, again. Any problems with electricity brown-outs in Siem Reap?
They happen but they are not common, and they usually only last a few minutes.
Great video friends look like 👍❤️

Is there a length of time you must rent these apartments, or can you do monthly, Peter

Another query: have you seen distilled water for sale in Siem Reap?
Yes, it's easily found in Siem Reap. We just use the large Blue Bottles of water(75c), some people buy the more expensive brands.
@@ForRiel distilled water is required for my CPAP machine. It is different than regular bottled water or spring water.
@@ianbaker5204 ah ok. I'll have a look. Is it the same as demineralised water?
