Funnily enough, the Ross Rifle was actually not an especially bad gun. It was very accurate and was a popular choice among snipers, but ill-suited to the trenches of WWI because it basically jammed the instant it got mud on it.

Its very clear certain countries need an updated focus tree. Preferably as part of a free update, since this was already DLC content. When Iceland has a bigger and better focus tree then you, you know you were done dirty.
HOI4 does a super disservice to New Zealand. We contributed massively to the defence of Greece, Crete, and Egypt. We also fought hard in the Pacific, and right through the entire Italian campaign. A New Zealander was in charge of the defence of Southern Britain during the Battle of Britain. We deserve a better tree and more depth.

If that were the case, the US wouldn't have killed a bunch of them in 1952, wouldn't have literally bombed workers on strike, and wouldn't have sent the national guard to deal with union protesters in Harlan County.
New Zealand has its own steel, its own coal, and is as large as Britian. We do lack a population to build quite as much industry, but a focus tree where we take in fleeing Chinese migrants or Pacific people's from the war with Japan to boost construction slots and gain bonuses to infrastructure and generate useful amounts of resources and factories would be one way to take the little corner nation that could, and turn it into a pocket powerhouse while Australia absorbs most of the early casualties. Maybe by making planes and lend leasing them to all your friends or building dockyards and making a navy, or selling Big Bob Bulldozer conversions to the world!
I'll be honest, whenever I play New Zealand, I always do motorized only. I just love the design of this stoopid little tank, and also that only some what fun way to play NZ to me
TBF, bob semple did make some good points for his armored vehicle design. First off, it's a good repelling force against attacking infantry without AT equipment. I mean, were the japanese really expecting AFVs out of new zealand? No. Very much no. It'd stall for time where they could get more potent AFVs with actual armor to deal with AT rifles and other equipment, allowing a hold and eventually a push.
ngl, they should redo the tutorial to be set in New Zealand as well. Managing a little economy, a small army, and having lots of Big Brother nations to help you out (as well as a small focus tree so you won't get lost), would probably be a good rework.

I remember one of my first ever playthroughs was as New Zealand. Someone (in hindsight, probably as a prank) suggested I play as them to get affiliated with the game. So I did. I took a couple focuses. I got bored. I had no endgame to look forward to, so I just, I guess decided to go fascist. so I did. and it was boring. I did rule them all. it was even more boring. I had nobody to attack and nothing to do. It got so bad that I genuinely think rn that sticking with the UK and actually contributing to the war is actually the only fun thing you can do as New Zealand. Who knows, you may get yourself a Libyan state or two in the peace deal.
I did an independent New Zealand run and declared war on the allies, invaded Australia then the USA (a pain btw if the ai doesn’t focus on Japan) and then ignored Europe and went for Asia, was pretty fun except for the long process of naval invasions
i actually played new zealand not too long ago, my army was made up of entirely tank divisions and i helped liberate all of africa (i did most of the work in ethiopia) and fought in the middle east, then i just waited for it to end because only god knows how awful my divisions would be against any european powers.

There was a time when new zealand ended up beating the soviet union (me) in a 44 player tournament by simply selling bob semples named "Ultra-T-34", I took the joke and proceeded to buy endless amounts of "Ultra-T-34"'s whilst giving them Actual T-34's and Is-2's, before i could realise it actually was going to be a problem (it's 1944 and new zealand owns china and austrailia) i ended up getting mass pushed by the remaining players despite the rules being No teaming, there was 23 people left and they all had me completely surrounded Moscow somehow withstood til 1946 due to them all fighting eachother at the proccess and i have all of Moscow's territory under lvl 10 bunkers and air defences with 4 mili fac's making rifles, end of story was that NZ took over the soviet union and owned all of Asia/Europe/Commonwealth

8:00 You know since the Bob Semple was built by putting armor over top of a Caterpillar dozer. It might just be the best tank for climbing mountains.
Fun fact: The Churchill was actually *incredibly* good at climbing. It could go up goat trails it had absolutely no business climbing.

I'm guessing the new NZ focus tree whenever it comes out will be part of new DLC as they made TFW part of the base game.
Polynesia gets cores on some Japanese Islands, including Taiwan, which gives you some really nice manpower
it's practically the only way to play NZ and even the devs know it.
