      I had a moment once where I realized that me thinking everyone was analyzing and thinking about me was just ego. most of the time no one is thinking about you for more than a brief moment, before they go back to thinking about themselves. plus we all know we're fudge ups, so when you fudge up most normal people will just move on, those who don't are either your very best closest friends who help you in love, or they're mean people that you may not need to spend time binding yourself to and interacting with. actually my experience is just what Tessa is saying as I type

    Games is powerful and empowering to me. It is a moment of realization that what is going on is not okay, and deciding what you can do about it. Maybe you let it slide again? Maybe you shut that shit down. The build throughout the song really encourages the feeling of growth and like something is coming to a head.

    For Games I would say its apprehensive or suppressed. I love how it feels almost rambling, the lyrics seem to come out without leaving yourself room to think, sort of like what happens when you feel that someone you care about is taking advantage of you. It really accentuates the anxiety of the situation. It also feels like you're struggling against yourself, trying to keep calm while also trying to express strong feelings, but you can't do both at once and end up doing neither well. I love how effectively this song communicates that very familiar feeling.

    I agree with someone who commented saying it was like quiet anger but also it’s Louie a bit of empowerment as well like coming to a realization you not going to let this person or anyone for that matter hurt you and you are just going to do what makes you happy! So I’m short it helped me feel empowered but also helped me realized the small little anger I have inside and how to deal with it. Also love you Tessa!!❤️❤️

    I just recently started doing stand-up comedy and hearing your anecdote was comforting and quite helpful. It's good to know that messing up when you first start is a normal thing and that failing is a part of the process too.

    When I first heard Games I initially felt and thought “ok broken heart, betrayal, and anger” and when I listened more what i related those words were the friendships I felt I had built but were full of lies and backhanded actions even though I was trying so hard to have a connection and I felt like I was going crazy being pushed and pulled by people I was trying to care for.
    I agree with a lot of the descriptions everyone has commented: quite anger, tension, and moody. I would add painful, hurt, and pressure.

    words to describe 'games':
    music: refreshing, catchy, timeless, cool
    video: artsy, interessting, fun-to-watch
    vocals: pure, somewhat naive (in a cute/innocent way), stand-out (i like your singing voice alot, its unique and distinguishable - too bad they don't play your music in the radio here in germany... yet)
    lyrics: relateable, personal
    overall a very great track!

    You timed this right during my break of night choir practice. Good one! I agree on the practice to get comfortable being seen. I think the key is to use nervous energy well and be proud of being seen and human. Make the stage feel like a home and be enough prepared. You probably can’t ever be 100% ready. We gotta get to a point of not worrying too much what people think and ideally have a good time. Making a stage into a home is tough.

    I would describe “Games” as heavy or strong. Someone that is fed up with the way things are but are too weighed down or low energy to get angry about it so it just festers and eats at them, idk that’s just what I get from the tone of it

    When listening to Games, the words i would chose to describe it is Calming yet somehow also Energetic. It's a great song to chill to at home, or in the car, but i can 100% see everyone lose it, both on and off stage, while playing it live.

    Games is powerful and scarily relatable, you nod to the tune but the second the lyrics are circling in your head it holds so much more power, that beat drops on the final chorus and I’m instantly just transported while I dance in the kitchen (it’s fun to imagine your playing a guitar while dancing about)

    yeah, the more i perform, the more fun it is. It's a skill like any other and with practice, you get better. It becomes less of, "what is going to happen on stage ahh will i embarrass myself???" and more like "oh, fam, we got it." I've rolled with some mighty embarrassment because I learned to calm myself on stage.

    Games: It's an empowering anthem about realizing that the pattern needs to be broken and standing up for what we deserve. For me personally, Games was an immediate play-on-repeat song. The verses pull you right in and then the building power of the chorus gets right in and I'm dancing with the beat, every time. I love your music, Tessa. Some adjectives I thought of for Games:
    Powerful, Cathartic, Soulful, Free, (this isnt an adjective but) emotionally heavy in a way that let's you connect with what you are feeling, and own your sadness, rather than letting it own you.
    Also the song has been very important to me in a lot of ways - thank you for writing music and doing you 💕

    regarding "games" For me, it is makes me really sad, almost fill with a note of desperation and maybe resignation? and at the same time the end, the last words are kind of if the whole song is running frenetically and suddenly stopping. I really love this song :)

  • @Kelsx13
    @Kelsx13 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think I would describe Games as frustrated resignation? It feels like the emotions involved are acceptance about the things that have happened but not being at peace with the fact they happened if that makes sense. There is no denial involved, it's just "You did this thing and you treated me shitty and I'm hurt by that."

    As for the song Games, I would call it "addictive". And the part starting with "You lying" has such a nice melody and I like your voice in it the most. Oh, and the choir in the background - good choice. 😊

    To me, Games is so real, it's something that I feel almost everyone experiences, it's raw, it's vulnerable, it's open, it's healing in a way, but also bitter, it's an extremely raw song I'd say.

  • @Molly_Bakes
    @Molly_Bakes 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A good description for games I feel like is clean and curt. It's especially in the sections with less background chorus, but the feeling of the song is curt as well - creating a separation between Tessa and the other person involved.

  • @stagnantfox3027

    "Games" for me personally starts like soul reaching, relatable to those who's hearts have been toyed with. But then the ref comes and it feels like you're standing up for yourself and calling them out for their terrible behaviour.
    Or in short: starts melancholic progresses into empowering.

    Games feels liberating to me, like finally coming to the realization that you're not being treated the way you deserve, and as painful as that realization can be it's the beginning of everything. It's when you begin to move forward, toward what you do deserve rather than just taking what you don't.

    Hello Tessa! English ain't my first language, so maybe the definitions I have of those adjectives don't really fit what I feel when listening to Games, but well I'll give it a try anyway! "Games" felt nostalgic, and uplifting at the same time. Uplifitng as in wooohoooo here comes the wave and I'm gonna surf on it, whatever you guys say!! It also felt very much danceable, and it made me want to share it with other people. In my first language (maybe you could translate that!) :

    When it comes to the song "Games" I have a few words that come to mind, mainly stuggle, confusion, confrontation, realization. It's like you're stuck in this glass room of a relationship, but it's been foggy so you aren't able to compare it to other relationships. Then, finally, you ferllike something is off so you wipe away the fog and realize there's a problem with the relationship and you deserve better, so you need to break out, but you love that person, so it might be worth fixing, so it's confusing.
    I have no idea if this helps at all but yeah.

    Games feels like that sort of stress you experience when you are so anxious that you're past the peak and now it's just exhaustion and your mind thinking at the speed of light. Like when I have an essay due at midnight and I've been working on it all day and now I just don't even feel bothered to care anymore, but I Do Care Because I'm Still Stressed About It

  • @milkandhoonie
    @milkandhoonie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Games is very dark and retro sounding. I can feel the pain and frustration you feel from this person who isn't treating you with any sort of respect and you really captured that in the music. The dark bass and how it kinda rumbles in your ears (when you listen with headphones aka the best way to listen to any music ever). It's such a fantastic song you can really just feel the energy of irritation and exhaustion but you make it sound so pleasant. It's truly a fantastic song and the melody and beat to it are super catchy and you can really vibe with it your body just naturally moves to the song outside of the fact that you can feel how you felt in those moments that person was playing games with you. It's real.
    Ps. Genuinely love the videos where you just do makeup and chat I feel like if I were to do makeup at the same time I'd feel like just chill friends doing makeup and chatting together you are hands down one of THE most down to earth artists.

  • @JustNierninwa
    @JustNierninwa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a lot of troubles defining games weirdly enough. I absolutely love that song, it's somehow become one of my favourites on the album even though that was rather unexpected (if you'd asked me I'd have thought Wishful Drinking, Honest, Interlude III or even Words ain't Enough would be above it, and I worship Words ain't Enough and was so excited when you announced it was on the album.
    So… how to describe it. Melancholic as some people have said, I guess. Although I feel like the rhythm builds up too much to describe it as properly melancholic. It's the kind of song I listen to as I feel like crying and I'm tired and depressed and having to walk to uni and it's raining Scottish drizzle like only Aberdeen knows how to make on my face and it's cold and grey and it encompasses the seething rage that comes with sadness and being… fed up with something. It… it expresses disgust at a situation and how in a crying rage you want to just… throw a chair across a room and scream to let out your feelings. But you don't and instead you channel it through this song.
    But it's also a song I use as an alarm clock and to exercise, which I think comes from the rage part… there is… a lot of energy in it.
    It's a song about longing for a change and how anger builds up inside of you as nothing changes and then you collapse into a puddle of tears. That's how I feel about it I think.
    It's hard to put into words and that clearly wasn't… succinct lol (sorry).
    Anyways I love the album

    Games to me is...powerful. I feel like there has to be a better word to convey how it makes me feel but I just keep coming back to that one. After being treated like a toy - a game - for so long and putting up with it, it gives me a feeling of cresting that breaking point between resignation/acceptance and "no more". To me, it says "No longer will I be treated like this, and I will not be quiet about it."

I like the way the first chorus is muted compared to when we get back to it the second time which is then followed by the bridge where the lyrics flow rather than the staccato used in the two verses which lends to the feeling of motion.
    As for the actual lyrics even though there are a lot of halting words, anything negative like hate and don't, the message I get from them is something that suggests moving on from a situation that holds you in place.
    So yeah, motion.

    Games is a moment when you are reading greek myth and someone becomes another victim of Zeus' love life and you feel not only sorry for the character but also a little relatable too. You can feel this anger and cruelty is too personal for you and reminds of an past lover or affair yet there is also teeny tiny bit of experience of love and kindess. (the good part is the beat where you feel like you are ready to love again but lyrics are full of helpless anger).

    I think I was at the show you were talking about (Florida humidity, eh? lol). But TBH, I think most of us were just freaking stoked to hear you play, so what if you needed a hot minute to tune your guitar. Glad you didn't cancel the show! Also agreed, Jess is h a w t and so damn cool

    Games has a melancholic tone, but also a measure of optimism and empowerment that brings me so much joy.

    Games feels to me like “swelling” or “building,” or perhaps “spiraling”? How it starts out really sparse, including the first chorus, and then building up to and blowing up in the second chorus and staying there for an extended section caught me off-guard, and just felt like whatever you were feeling was becoming more and more overwhelming

    I think of “games” as a song that starts out feeling hurt and kinda sad but overtime as the energy picks up it gets more defiant and passionate (and not sure if this’ll help, but I always imagine the song in vibrant neon colors)

    When I listen to games it makes me forget about my worries and all. Also I can't stop vibing to the beat.

    I'd describe Games as strong and fragile at the same time somehow. There is tension, but also relief in it. It really got me and I shed a tear without even knowing why.

    Games reminds me of feeling disappointed, but yet it feels comforting to not be alone in that

    So I’ve been thinking for a few days now about the song “Games” and I think the word I’d go with is “seething.” It’s like you’ve been angry with someone else for messing with your head but then also angry at yourself for letting it happen. Then this anger comes out in the chorus. I also love the underlying layer of sadness/disappointment that this person made you so angry in the first place

    "Games" is fed up/frustrated/quietly angry.

    Games - feels like a release of frustration. It feels like freeing yourself from something that was continuing on a repetitive cycle without progression.
