I am about ready to buy a 26foot Rockwood Mini Lite. I have one question about your Weigh Safe experience. Maybe it was in your video but I didn't see/hear it. How is the noise generated by this hitch compared to the Equalizer??
I bought the Weigh Safe Middleweight hitch. Towing a 29’ travel trailer with a Ram 1500. Currently I’ve traveled 3500mi with it on our xcountry trip. When we passed thru OK, TX, and NM we experienced consistent 30mph winds with 50mph gusts for almost two days of towing with many tractor trailers too. I’ve never experience wind like this before coming from MA. The hitch did great, MUCH. better than my previous hitch (Blue Ox Sway Pro) I did slow down to 60mph during these two days. Made me feel better but I’m retired and have the time. Thanks for recommending Weigh Safe as it made our trip so much better. We are about half way on our xcountry trip now. Lots of fun still ahead.
Good to hear. Austin to Southern Colorado is my main route and the wind is miserable. My Blue Ox has not been sufficient no matter what I do. 65mph is my preferred speed.
I’m new to driving with a 33.5 foot Travel Trailer. I only had my RV since 3/31/2023. July 2023, I drove pretty over big dip crossing the RR Tracks. The jolt twisted frame clamp and bar was loose. I called Curt after having the hitch inspected where the technician thought where the ball bearings sit, he said that the socket was cracked. My warranty was for 1 year and Curt said that I would need to buy another one. Well, we drove with the hitch for over 4800 miles with no issues other replacing the frame clamp but I didn’t like the way Curt approached the situation. I was at least I hoping they would recommend a site to have the hitch checked other than just saying your warranty is over. As soon as I get a chance, I am going with Weigh Safe HD winch set up after seeing your You Tube videos on the top 11 hitches. Thanks for your reply.
Really nice video. I found your most recent hitch battle and I'm getting a Flagstaff 29BHS (35', 7700 dry) in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to go with the Weigh Safe middleweight for all the reasons you mentioned (also hoping my power tongue jack can move to the side and drop the tailgate. BUT, one thing that I think will be SUPER NICE is setting it up for different tow vehicles properly. We rent our camper and this one will be the same. Everyone shows up with a different rig, so it would be awesome to set it up for them and feel confident that it's dialed in. Thanks a ton for doing these! Super helpful! I hope you get at least a small slice when I use your code at checkout! I'm sure they've sold a ton of hitches because of your hitch battles!
EXCELLENT presentation. You do an outstanding job testing & communicating the pro's & cons as well as very good video. I followed your tests on trucks a few years back when I moved up from my F150 Eco to a F350 7.3L gasser. When we got our new tt we opted for the Andersen even though we are at the 30' limit you mentioned. It may not work quite as well as our previous WTH (Reese spring bar type) but the ease of on & off and weight savings made up for it. Again; THANK YOU!
I purchased the middle weight with 1200# bars in the fall for my gmc 1500 with my 2021 coachmen freedom express 26bdh. I got this hitch from your reviews you did in the fall. I have not towed with it yet as i start in april every year. Loved how the setup process went. You can tell the weight distributes properly because the height of my front tires went down during the setup. Thx for the reviews of all the hitches
I am currently buying a Coachmen Freedom express ultra light 252rb. Weight dry is 6020 and 704 hitch weight. My 2wd Chevy Silverado 2021 has a 9300 max and and 1953 payload 930 toungue weight. Just curious to how mine compares to yours and your thoughts on towing with 1500. Will be buying a middle weight weight safe. Thanks for your input.
i just ordered this hitch today with the 1200 lbs bars. I was very interested in the B&W Continum but my trailer has a middle frame member on the tongue so it wouldn't work due to the hydraulics getting in the way. I'm sure I'll be happy with the Weigh Safe and I can't wait to see how well it performs. I've never used a weight distribution hitch because I thought just having airbags to level the truck was al I needed. Boy was I wrong! Forgot to say thanks for the discount code!!
Ordered the middle weight hitch even before my trailer showed up based on your videos. Thanks for the information. I’ve had the chain style with add on friction bars before for my old race trailer but this looks so much more user friendly and more accurate setup. Now just a waiting game.
I'm waiting for your B&W review before making a final choice, the Middleweight is in the lead. My Equal-I-zer is awesome, but I need something I can adjust on the fly. Great video as always!
Thanks so much for your efforts in testing and evaluating this middleweight hitch! I'm towing a GD 2600RB with a Ram 1500. I ordered one after seeing this video and also got the discount from your code name. Nice!! I was considering the Andersen but when I considered the forces on the back side of the coupler, I decided against that hitch and went with the weighsafe. Also thought that the Andersen might not give me enough weight distribution. My hitch is backorded and WeighSafe will not give me an estimated delivery. Thanks again!
the true tow heavy weight is the best hitch ive had so far. after replacing my weight gauge no issues after 1 year. i just spray some oil down the gap so the o ring around the ball can move freely along the walls.
Appreciate the review. As an aside, it's funny when someone who lives in the Canadian Rockies hear someone from Georgia say they've been to the mountains.
It’s always interesting to hear folks from the west make this comment. Sure, the Rockies are much higher in elevation but so are your basins. The Ike Gauntlet (seen as a sincere towing test by most) has about 2000ft of elevation change in 23 miles. Gatlinburg to Newfound Gap here in the Smokies has over 4000ft of elevation change… in 15 miles. The Rockies are massive. The Appalachians are rugged. Yes, the elevation does play a big part regarding air/fuel mixture. No doubt… but don’t tell me we don’t have mountains. 😊
I have the middle weight. I think it has been great. The scale did break on mine and stop showing weight. Weigh Safe jumped and sent me a new one. There customer service was great.
@@WanderingWeekends not sure the official issue yet. Unhooked one day and next time I hitched up the scale never moved. Just happened last week. Already have the replacement at the house from weigh safe.
I’ve towed twice with my middleweight hitch and in both trips, the scale broke on mine. The first time it broke, they fixed it under warranty and it broke again on the trip I’m currently on. I’m really considering switching to a different hitch because of this issue since I can’t rely on it working.
Another insightful review. Thanks. I was going to look at Andersen, but will stay with my Weigh Safe True Tow - Heavy. It is HEAVY, but all the good things you said about it are right on. I towed my 6,500 lb. (loaded) 27’ trailer with three Escalades and a GMC Canyon. All towed wonderfully with the Weigh Safe. Now have a 2022 Silverado 1500 that I expect will make easy work of the tow task, as did my previous 2015 Silverado. Why a new truck? Payload. The Canyon was overloaded even though it was well under the tow limit and really pulled the trailer quite nicely. I will not tow overloaded, even if it feels o.k. Chevy fixed that.
Appreciate the thorough reviews on these hitches. We went with Equalizer when we bought our rig 3.5 years ago because it was best in class at the time. If I were going to buy a new hitch tomorrow, Weigh Safe is the leader in the club house.
I just bought this using your promo code... thanks! The funny thing is that I'm pulling the exact same trailer, the Grand Design 25BHE. I'm using a 10k Equalizer and the issue is that I'm pulling with a 2017 Navigator L, which only handles 850lbs or so for the tongue weight. I had 3 dealers from 3 different states tell me that I could pull the 25bhe, but it squatted way too hard on my trip home from GA to FL, and now I think my strut is damaged. Hopefully, this will help me balance it better.
I’m afraid the tow vehicle is the problem. Dealers are in the business of selling campers… telling the truth is rarely their strong point. Let me know how it goes. 🫤
@@WanderingWeekends Thanks man.... yeah that's what I'm afraid of. I have 4 kids so this vehicle/camper combo is literally the only one that will carry all 6 of us and sleep all 6 of us. I knew the numbers going into it and shared them with each dealer, but the GM said "trust me, I've been doing this for 30 years and it'll work" lol!
Pick the exact one after not only seeing your review video but the one that showed this at the show. Your discount code work BTW, so thank you for that too.
After towing a 26’ trailer for 8 years with really no issues, we traded in for a nicer but shorter trailer…. and totaled it in a sway incident. We still aren’t sure what happened, it wasn’t on the way home from the dealer, but it was on our first trip. We are going to replace it, but with all my ptsd we’ve already bought a bigger truck and I’m having a hell of a time taking myself out of a Pro pride even though we will be well below our tow weight. 😞
We towed with our Middleweight for the first time. I was very surprised because I was coming from an equalizer. The camper, 36' Flagstaff, seem like it was more connected to my truck. It felt more comfortable towing on the interstate. Their was still a little porpoising, but not bad at all. My only compliant would be the weight of the hitch. I am 63 yrs old and things seem heavier than they use to. Overall I recommend this hitch.
It is heavy but it’s actually 15lbs or so lighter than the heavyweight. It’s great to hear another confirm this hitch outperforms the Equalizer. Many doubt me when I say that but it’s certainly noticeable.
@@WanderingWeekends We have a hitch weight of 973. I added a few pounds because of our front storge on the camper. I adjusted it a cording to the app and manual. After playing with it for awhile, It's a very easy hitch to work with.
Glad I watched this video - my wife complains how hard it is to remove the pins from the L-brackets. Problem solved with the equalizer pins. I guess I just figured they wouldn't be compatible.
Brother, With the tailgate hitting... we're you able to ask them to make a mear 2" increase in length of the Draw Bar Length? Yes, I suspect it could mean a software update ... maybe. I sure hope they did! 👍 Cheers, Eric
You provide great info & videos; including the recent review on the Middle Weight & B&W; would have loved to have seen the install on the MW. I am pulling a 2022 GD Imagine 2600RB, 7850 GTW, 890 tongue weight, with a 2022 GMC 6.2 Sierra 1500Limited - and yes I wish it was a 2500. Trailer dealer agreed to install the TR3, but installed the R3, refunded my money and I went with the MW. WS Customer Service (super so far) thought it would need a 4" drop but it needed the 6" (actually 10.8" - per my tape and WS detail). Dealer tech put it in the top two holes in the rise position; we pulled it 180 miles in that position and it rode great. According to our calculations it needed to be dropped two holes and still requires the 6"; both positions raised the truck tires off the ground to slide the swing arms in and out with the lift arm - lot of stress on the jack; WS recommends spring arm platform to be 9" below the top of the hitch as ideal for the best tow position - currently it is 8 5/8" - so will move at least 1 hole down, which would be just over 9" and allow the arms easier access. Have not pulled it in the new positions, and look forward to doing so very soon. I would have loved for the MW to have the locking mechanism like the Heavy Weight to make it easier to remove and store. The tailgate drops without hitting the hitch, but the lube port goes up between the GMC letters, and that nixes the down position. THANKS AGAIN!
You are the High Priest of Hitch Reviews! Great video. As you mentioned in the video, Anderson is great for certain situations but in my case, with a barely adequate TV, it did not provide enough weigh distribution (and it also had issues with slippage even though I followed the instructions to a T). I changed it out to the EAZLIFT TR3 and could not be happier! You have got to give TR3 some love (I know you did mention it in your notes)! 😀
@@WanderingWeekends You always do a great job with these hitch reviews! You were very instrumental in helping me select a WDH for my rig. Don't beat yourself up. It just proves that you are human. Look forward to the 10 hitch round up!
I had the Eazlift ReCurve R3 and it was OK, but it was supposed to come with the TR3 - and yes, I saw the Holy Grail of Hitches and all of the other reviews - and I was looking forward to the TR3. My funds were refunded and I purchased the Middle Weight. It is good, but it is an ongoing process and we are still trying to dial it in - have not put on as many as Corey/WonderWeekends. Would have loved to have seen your install of the MW - and very appreciative of all of your reviews.
I recently picked up a middleweight for our Transcend Xplor 265BH. My Yukon XL liftgate clears it, which I was not expecting! Sorry your truck's tailgate didn’t clear, but there's hope for some SUV tow vehicles out there. Great review as always. Thanks for all your work on the hitch battle!
The only thing I didn’t like about the middleweight version was they went back to the bolts between the hitch head and drawbar. Had they kept the locking pins to make it easy to adjust the height, I would have bought that instead of the bigger one
I ordered the Middleweight for our new 2023 Ember 21MRK and 2016 RAM 1500 rig. Your reviews convinced me. Received the hitch via FedEx a week after ordering. Anxious to report our results. Home is Ellijay, GA.
@@weber_with1B Yes, installed and quite happy. Makes very little noise when cornering. No sag from my RAM 1500 which has a soft rear end. Perfect match for me.
@@TWiumph One more question: Can you make normal turns with the WD hitch attached and bars up? If I had to make a U-turn, could I do it? (Not an excessively tight one). I'm just wondering how restrictive the hitch is once connected. Driving down the highway at 60 mph is one thing. Maneuvering around a gas station or parking lot is another. I just don't want to be surprised. Thanks for your time Greg!
Hey man, these videos are awesome! So much good info from an experienced guy. Have you by chance ever looked into the bulletproof weight distribution hitch? They look to be good quality but was curious if in your opinion they may be worth a shot. I have a ‘17 ram 2500 diesel and it handles the weight of my 6300 lbs. jayco but I feel that the ride could be calmer at times. Just curious on your thoughts man, keep up the quality videos!
Should this be a concern? From the Middleweight Manuel. (NEVER tow or back up with spring arms attached if the angle between tow vehicle centerline and trailer centerline is greater than 60 degrees. Unhook spring arms while backing up to avoid this. Failure to do so may cause damage or hitch failure and will void warranty. ) From the Equal-i-zer Site (Can I back up with the Equal-i-zer hitch? Yes, the Equal-i-zer hitch is designed to allow you to back up and take tight turns with the hitch hooked up. Just be sure the frame brackets are installed in the correct range on the trailer frame (27"-32" from the center of your coupler) so the arms have plenty of room (2"-3" after the bracket) to move during tight turns.) Thoughts?
Obviously I’d never make a recommendation against the manufacturer but for ME it’s never been a problem. I have a 90 degree back in to my driveway. No problem at all.
I've always removed my bars on both company's hitches before backing up. While you can backup with them installed you are fighting against the anti-sway which makes turning less sensitive to steering wheel movements.
I have one on order for about a month now. It's supposed to be here by the end of April. I'll be replacing an Equalizer that I have used for over 15 years.
@@jonbenson4247, well for one, my hitch was way over spec for my trailer (14,000 lb rating, but my trailer weight is only 6,300 lbs). I had been thinking about going to a lesser Equal-i-Zer. I also liked that you can fine-tune the weight distribution each time you hitch up without disassembling the hitch head. I have it installed now, but haven't towed with it yet-that's coming up in three weeks. The weight difference between the two hitches is 18 lbs, so I get back a little more payload which is important when you tow with an F-150. Also, the hitch is just a hair longer than the Equal-i-Zer and I can fully open the tailgate, another added benefit.
We have now towed 5 times with the WS middle weight. My previous hitch was Equalizer 4 point. I tow a GD 2600 RB with a RAM 1500 max tow package. It does a very good job. Sway control is very good. I think performance in the wind is not as good as the equalizer. It does better with truck suck though. The WS hitch is significantly harder to connect and disconnect the sway bars. The truck has to be raised up VERY high. The placement of the adjustment screw on the head is a bad design, in my opinion. It provides a very tight tolerance for backing up. No more than an inch of variance before you hit it with the trailer receiver. This is a very different design than the heavy weight. For me, it was not worth the money over the Equalizer that I already had. I would definitely buy the heavy weight over the middle weight.
@@jonbenson4247 tough to answer, I guess that is why I still have both. I just got got a new truck, I may test them both more vigorously to be able to better answer.
Love your videos, ton of information... I grew up around campers with my grandparents and he had an 1984 S-10 2 door blazer and around an 18ft Sunline tandem axle camper, he always used a weight distribution hitch when he towed, and he towed it at least one weekend a month to go out camping. He taught me all i know on camping, including set up break down, hitching, etc... they passed away years ago, and camping dithered off, i could not afford to do it and had no friends that were interested. Fast forward to now I recently bough myself a 1/2 t Silverado 1500 with tow package, and been looking at getting a small camper under 20ft (looking at Imagine 17MKE). Been watching your videos and reading your comments. Wondering what a good Weight Distribution Hitch would be for a small camper like the Imagine coupled up to my 1/2 T?? Seems some of these WD hitches are overkill and made for way more tongue weight and trailer weight. I wand a good dependable reliable WD hitch that will do the job, provide stability, and allow me to back up and move around, and I do not mind taking the time to set it up, just don't want to spend an hour every time doing so, unless i really need to. keep up the good work, and dumping the info out to us all :)
@@WanderingWeekends Thanks, will do a double take on the Anderson (rewatch your videos and read up on them). the Imagine GVWR is 6395, unloaded is 4674 and tongue is 480, so I was leaning towards the TR3 600 seems to be simple to set up and maintain and plenty of good reviews or possibly the Equal-i-zer, but looks like i may need the 1000. in my research the EAZ-Lift Elite is very similar to the style i grew up with, but that was over 20 years ago and technology has advanced ;)
Wahooo, ordered the Hitch... and asked Makayla to tell the Engineer, Hahaha, "I want to open my Tailgate", so make the 2"x2" drop bar shaft 2" longer and send me a de-rating Sticker saying I can only carry 11,500 lbs vice 12,500 lb. 🤪 Haha! Let's start an internet campaign asking them to sell or swap us for a longer 2x2 drop bar shaft! Do you think 2" is long enough to clear the Grand Design Imagine powered lift post?? 🤔 Brother, THANK YOU for the 15% referral code, it saved me $150! Cheers, Eric
@Steven Mullins basically all that's needed is for the 2"×2" portion to be another 2" longer so that the Ball is 2" further back from the rear of the truck. This way the RV power lift will clear the tailgate when down. Our brother on Wandering Weekends has spoken about it previously. Cheers, Eric
I was sold on the original hitch review. I ordered a middle Weigh Safe True Tow and it works well with the adjustment. With 800 lbs of tongue weight and 6800 lbs, I found the app's recommend distributed weight was too low vs sway. I added another 300 lbs (e.g. 2300 lbs). It wasn't clear the pro or cons of how I'm using it. Thoughts?
A little late now since you have hit most of the major players, but I'd like to mention the idea of a clip demonstrating the noise level for the trunnion bar style as you negotiate a parking lot. I've had the Anderson for going into my 3rd season and am 95% satisfied with it, but it does bounce a bit with the rubber bushings it uses and the Weigh Safe is very intriguing but I've heard enough trunnion style hitches rubbing and scrubbing their way around fuel stations and campgrounds and I'm just a bit apprehensive. That is the primary reason I went with the Anderson.
I want the pro pride but I’m just not comfortable spending 3500 on a hitch that stays on the trailer. Just ordered the weigh safe thanks to your review. Currently using the E2 hitch for my 2800BH and I’m just not comfortable with it. Keep up all the good work I am envious of your life 😂
@@SeanMcInturffsr I haven’t installed it yet as I’m currently swapping out the leaf springs and installing the road armor equalizers. I will let you know once I do though!
I’m pulling Imagine 2600rb (7850 GVW) with 2020 F150 3.5 EcoBoost. Do you think the weight safe true tow will significantly help with trailer sway ? Or do you think since I’m pulling with F150, I’ll continue to have significant sway? I’m currently using Blue Ox sway pro.
You’ll absolutely see a big improvement. Will it be the tow you want it to be without a 3/4 ton? I just don’t know since I haven’t experienced that combo. Worst case you snag a Weigh Safe and see what happens. If you still want a bigger truck at least you have a killer hitch to go with it. I’ve even had a few ProPride owners still go 3/4 ton so…
Weigh Safe is a good hitch as long as your travel trailer doesn’t have an underslung hitch like many Jayco’s do. Weigh Safe says they don’t recommend using their hitch on a Jayco.
Just started watching your videos while doing so research on getting a different hitch. I am currently using the Equalizer Hitch but wanting something with less sway. I am in North Ga close to Chattanooga TN so we do most our travels in the mountains but your review of this hitch made my mind up on what I want. I do have a question though i am pulling a 22ft box 30ft total with a 3/4 ton truck so would be better off just getting the heavyweight or would the middle weight be more suitable. Thanks for your reviews and look forward to watching the rest of your videos.
I currently have an e2 equalizer 2inch round bar pulling a 30ft 7800lbs gvwr trailer. I get plenty of truck suck feels like the ass of my truck starts floating. Should I purchase the heavyweight or middle weight. Definitely want to use my tailgate. Also want to put ebike rack on the back of the trailer adding about an additional 200lbs on the rear of trailer.
I have a 2023 Riverside Retro 135 and a 2021 Ford Bronco (V6, 2.7L, twin turbo) Do you think this hitch would do the job for me, or is it overkill? The trailer is about 2600 dry, maybe 3000 when packed. The trailer is 16', but as of now I dont have any hitch except stock. I felt it swaying on me at about 70mph,but at 55mph it did just fine. Just looking for some solid advice. Thanks
I can’t speak to your situation but it should at least help. I’m not sure the 70mph isn’t your problem as well. 63-65 is generally a sweet spot for many.
I just bought the weigh safe middle weight to replace my blue ox sway pro. I'm going to a new trailer so i won't have apples to apples, but i'm curious to see how it rides. I did have one question. I saw the disclaimer on the website about backing up steep driveways or sudden changes in grade. My driveway has some slope, nothing crazy. I've been backing my Blue Ox up it for years. Just curious if you had any experience with this.
I’ve backed up with the Weigh Safe for years. Unless you’re really jackknifing the setup or the slope is obviously inappropriately steep you’ll be fine. I’d actually suggest disengaging any WDH in those situations.
@@WanderingWeekends thank you for the honest reply. I have curb ramps already to make the approach angle more desirable. I actually have more clearance issues pulling out due to the direction of the slope and that’s only because my blue ox had like 8” of drop on the draw bar. Thanks again and if I don’t like the Weigh Safe I’m coming for you. Kidding of course. I have secretly disliked your reviews of blue ox. But I’m dying to be proven wrong. I’ve never had any sway issues, but would love to see less truck suck.
Can you unload the bars on the weigh safe using the jack like a traditional style hitch or can it damage the hydraulic part of the ball when it pulls up on it?
I have always used the tongue jack. No issues. I am not sure what Weigh Safe says. It would be very difficult to hitch any of these without using the jack.
Make sure to buy a spare weight distributing setup if you decide to buy this product. Mine lasted 1/2 a camping season before the scale stopped working. To get it fixed under warranty, I just need to send it in, wait for them to repair it, and then Weigh Safe ship it back to me. Great... now I have no hitch to pull my camper! And now you see why you'll need a spare hitch setup for every time you need to send this very expensive hitch in to be repaired! Not the level of service I would have ever expected for such an expensive product! There should be a replacement sent to me and I'll return the defective one in that packaging. At this point, I definitely regret making this purchase.
I am not sold. I have the heavy weight version for my 29’11” 7500 dry trailer. 1) gauge failed - they sent a new head. 2) shackle bolt failed causing the shackle to fall down. Luckily I was inside my park when it happened. - They sent replacement bolts. 3) I think after looking at the hitch briefly last weekend, I think my gauge has failed again - after already replacing the head I understand they will send a gauge replacement kit. Not batting very good and each thing, especially the bolt failure, you start to lose confidence. Ymmv.
Good info, I see you tied the TR3 from EAZYLIFT,, I have the r6 and so far I really like it. Had it installed with the trailer when I got itba year ago. To date we have put on about 4500k with two long trips from WA to WY. The only thing is my bar hangers on thr frame slightly rotate working with camco on it. I would be interested to see your thoughts and maybee a review. But first timer so far so good.
Looking around for a way to implement Weight Distribution for a Motorcycle Hitch Carrier. Any ideas? Hitch has a MAX Weight Tongue Rating of 500lbs; increases to 800lbs with Weight Distribution.
Cory- have you run across any resources on setting up the weigh safe with air suspension/ self leveling feature? Equalizer addresses on their site, but I have not found anything from weigh safe. I did reach out to support. I have several printed pages already attached for the stuff NOT in the manual.
Bought one of these a few days ago. When the app asks for the "gross trailer weight", it is really not clear what to put in. Is this the GVWR marked on the trailer, or is it the current weight of the trailer as you are about to hook up? I sent mail to Weigh Safe, and they answered " this is going to be the trailers current weight. We would recommend for you to take the dry weight of the trailer, and then add on an estimate of how much cargo you have." I sure think that's confusing. And then when you enter the truck data, is it the actual values of your truck at that moment, or is it the max ratings as stated on your door sticker?
2017 Tundra Towing a 20' flatbed with a RZR so probably 5500lbs. Eventually an enclosed trailer around 8500 lbs. Instaed of getting a weigh safe ball mount would it make sense to get this and just not use the bars if towing around 5,000 lbs? Or would the ball mount be just fine without the WDH?
What are your thoughts on using the heavy weight 2" hitch for a 4400 lb trailer fully loaded? I had ordered the middleweight but am now being quoted 8+ weeks for delivery. Would the heavy weight be way too stiff and cause different issues from being over spec'ed?
No, I think you’ll be fine. It is adjustable. The middleweight exists to save weight. Lighter hitch head, lighter bars, ect. You’ll also have tailgate clearance with the heavyweight.
If I don't go with the middleweight due to the tailgate hitting the jack. What hitch would you recommend? Tow vehicle is a GMC 1500 and trailer is 30' and gross weight is 8250Lbs. Thank you
Question: I replaced castle rock tires with Goodyear Endurance Tires. In your opinion, my trailer calls for 65psi ; Goodyear (N rated) calls for 80 psi, which should I do, follow what tire pressure listed on my trailer or follow what Goodyear recommends?
I believe the info on your trailer is for the factory installed tires. Here is a link for your current tire www.goodyearrvtires.com/pdfs/rv_inflation.pdf
Great review and due to your presentation I purchased the middle weight for my set up, but to be honest, I DO NOT the difference in any of the sway. I’ve pulled 8000 lbs for over 3k miles this summer and this set isn’t any better than what I had before. Shame on me for taking any of your advice Steve
Hmm… interesting. I’ll say your story is certainly in the minority. Hundreds have told me they love their hitch. Can’t win em all I guess. I wish you safe travels either way.
For every employee that reads this dbags comment and has PTSD for not being able to call these kinds of Karen's out due to the chance of being fired, let's all join together to put him in his place. Yes, Shame on you for being a miserable chode. Shame on you for being extremely unlikeable. And shame on you for always acting like a 13 year old girl going through puberty, as if the world is against you and no matter what people do, even if they're being respectful you still find a way to be a piece of shit. Go fuck yourself, loser.
Do you have play where the hitch head mounts on the shank? I've torqued mine to over 250 ft lbs and I can jiggle the head inside the bracket. Overall I like the hitch having purchased it after seeing your reviews.
I have a 40ft 12000lb travel trailer with 1300lb tongue weight. How do you think it'll handle. I just have truck suck and sway over 65mph with my current set up.
We appreciate all your research with these hitches. One question I have is backing up with the Weighsafe True Tow Middle weight. Can you backup and are there any issues with this? Thanks The Powell’s Donald & Debbie
I haven’t had any issues backing up. I would recommend disengaging any hitch if you’re really jackknifing or backing up a significant grade. Common sense says we don’t want these forces places against the hitch or frame of the RV.
Are these hitches you are suggesting (the top 3-4) better than a Husky Centerline? I keep hearing good things about the Centerline but I haven’t been able to get mine dialed in.
Great reviews of all the hitches. Thanks! Looking at getting the heavyweight. Really like the added benefit of being able to let tailgate down over the middleweight. Do you have any input on using the heavyweight on a lighter trailer? 25ft with a gross of 7600 lbs.
I’m between the middleweight and the heavyweight. The price isn’t that much different. My trailer falls into the specs of the Middleweight. Wondering if I should just go heavyweight for future proofing or if the bars will be too stiff.
I have the middleweight installed on my 2018 F-150 and the tailgate is useable. It's close but does come down. That wasn't the case on my previous Equalizer hitch.
I am considering an Imagine XLS 23LDE to pull behind a Jeep Gladiator the trailer will be just under the max tow capacity and hitch weight for the vehicle. I am very experienced with towing I have never owned a weight distribution hitch snd never had a problem towing in 45 plus years of towing but I have always used a much bigger tow vehicle. Have you ever tested this hitch on a smaller tow vehicle such as I intend to use. For background I am a farm boy heavy equipment overloader used to having my headlights shining in the trees
I wouldn’t touch this setup with a 10ft pole. WAY too much trailer for a Gladiator. Even if you’re OK with your lights in the trees you’re placing others on the road with you at risk. On the farm, sure. On the road with others please NO.
Like I said… I wouldn’t touch it with a 10ft pole. I’ve had a longer wheelbase Jeep. That told me all I needed to know on whether I’d tow much of anything with either. A jet ski or teardrop? Absolutely. A 23LDE… never.
Would the middle weight be enough for the 2910bh imagine? I feel like its borderline on potential tounge weight of that trailer. Pulling with a F350 7.3L godzilla 2.5” hitch
@@WanderingWeekends Thanks for replying. I ordered the Middleweight as the heavyweight isn't in stock right now and I need something to replace the Equalizer E4 that is damaging my safety chains.
How does this hitch do backing up and on sharp turns, or U turns, compared to the others? is it easy to remove the re-attach the bars if need be to back up or make a sharp turn?
I need to disengage unless you are REALLY jackknifing it (that goes for any of these hitches really). It certainly makes noise. If that is a deal breaker take a look at the TR3.
My truck is a 2020 Silverado 1500. Using the Weigh Safe app, it is telling me my max tongue weight is 300-450 lbs, which seems way too low. My two axle cargo trailer empty probabyl has at least a 300 lbs tongue weight. Here are the values I entered into the app: Silverado Info: GVWR 7,200 lbs GCWR 15,000 lbs MCC 1,709 MCC Trailer Info: GVWR 10,000 lbs MCC 7,000 lbs Coupler 2 & 5/16th What's even more messed up is the Weigh Safe App is "lawyering up". The App is not letting me make any edits to the numbers I entered so I had to delete the app and re-install it. If anyone has some input to share regarding this issue, please reply to this post.
Weigh Safe has shifted their discount to 10%... while unfortunate it still saves you around $100!!
65mph is my preferred speed.
great review! One question though, Can you open your tailgate without contacting the electric jack?
@@michaelmacdonald1446 nope
Thanks for reply. Three more Questions. What is your gross trailer weight? What is your tongue weight? What bars did you go with? 8500 or 12,500lb
Can you open your tailgate?
Good to hear. I'm glad the review was useful!! Safe travels!
I’m glad the channel has been useful! Thank you for watching!!!
We hope you enjoy the True Tow, Jeff! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
I bet you’ll see a huge improvement! Let us know.
I like watching you doing this to the hitch’s, we have a 5th wheel. Good job, a lot of information.
Thanks Brother,
I appreciate your help & dedication.
I can't wait to get my hitch.
Cheers, Eric
Cheers!! You’re too kind.
Enjoy that hitch.
The code still works. My tailgate works. 2022 f250, 2019 2800bh with a stromberg jack
Glad to hear it performed well, but I'm secretly rooting for the B&W. 😂
Haha! We will see!
I'm waiting for your B&W review before making a final choice, the Middleweight is in the lead. My Equal-I-zer is awesome, but I need something I can adjust on the fly. Great video as always!
I will do my best!!
Weigh Safe told me mid to late May. I ordered the one with a 4 inch drop but I know the other ones with more drop were still showing in stock.
@@DucDNA Mine is a 4 inch drop also.
Purchased and used the code, thank you. 2024 Silverado 2500hd and a imagine xls 25bhe.
the true tow heavy weight is the best hitch ive had so far. after replacing my weight gauge no issues after 1 year. i just spray some oil down the gap so the o ring around the ball can move freely along the walls.
We are stoked to hear that!
Really looking forward to the B&W
I’ve had one in the cart since I laid my eyes on it.
I wonder if they had a bad batch of o-rings. Was that the issue with yours? Both of mine have been rock solid.
A dialed in Equalizer is pretty good!
Great video! And yes the code still works!!! I just used it and saved $154!!!!
Good to hear!! Take that savings and snag a few more sites!!
Thanks! Good to hear.
Pick the exact one after not only seeing your review video but the one that showed this at the show. Your discount code work BTW, so thank you for that too.
Oh good! Glad it saved you some $$!!
Your reviews are always useful in my opinion! You certainly bring “user” experience, which is best!
I appreciate that!!
Love those pins!
Brother,
With the tailgate hitting... we're you able to ask them to make a mear 2" increase in length of the Draw Bar Length? Yes, I suspect it could mean a software update ... maybe.
I sure hope they did! 👍
Cheers, Eric
Are you able to get a measurement from hitch-pin to center of the ball. I'll order a WS this second if I can figure that out. Thanks!
Really nice hitch. Very surprised they do not offer brackets for 8” trailer frames. All the top aluminum car haulers come in 2”x8” frames.
I believe they are working on it.
I was actually ticked at myself for forgetting to mention it! It’ll get some love in the 10 hitch roundup video!!
How much does the hitch and ball weigh that you put into the truck receiver hitch?
I recently picked up a middleweight for our Transcend Xplor 265BH. My Yukon XL liftgate clears it, which I was not expecting! Sorry your truck's tailgate didn’t clear, but there's hope for some SUV tow vehicles out there. Great review as always. Thanks for all your work on the hitch battle!
Enjoy that Transcend! Great floor plan!
I'm trying to decide between the equalizer or the middleweight for my 256bh. How has you experience been with the middleweight?
very much looking forward to the b&w continuum video!
The only thing I didn’t like about the middleweight version was they went back to the bolts between the hitch head and drawbar. Had they kept the locking pins to make it easy to adjust the height, I would have bought that instead of the bigger one
I do agree. I bought the MW but wish it had the locking mechanism instead of the bolts; seemed like a back step.
Brother,
This sure seems like it could be ... a PERFECT 🤔 match for our RAM 1500 4x2 and Grand Design XLS 22MLE???
Cheers, Eric
I ordered the Middleweight for our new 2023 Ember 21MRK and 2016 RAM 1500 rig. Your reviews convinced me. Received the hitch via FedEx a week after ordering. Anxious to report our results. Home is Ellijay, GA.
Greg, have you installed your new hitch? Easy to install? Have you towed with it yet? Thinking this model is perfect for us as well.
@@weber_with1B Yes you can. I tested the rig a couple of days ago on our cul-de-sac with no problem and no noise. Totally satisfied.

I should mention, I’m just using a heavy curt 6” drop hitch. Currently no wd at all
Should this be a concern? From the Middleweight Manuel.
(NEVER tow or back up with spring arms attached if the
angle between tow vehicle centerline and trailer centerline
is greater than 60 degrees. Unhook spring arms while
backing up to avoid this. Failure to do so may cause
damage or hitch failure and will void warranty. )
From the Equal-i-zer Site
(Can I back up with the Equal-i-zer hitch?
Yes, the Equal-i-zer hitch is designed to allow you to back up and take tight turns with the hitch hooked up. Just be sure the frame brackets are installed in the correct range on the trailer frame (27"-32" from the center of your coupler) so the arms have plenty of room (2"-3" after the bracket) to move during tight turns.)
Thoughts?
Obviously I’d never make a recommendation against the manufacturer but for ME it’s never been a problem. I have a 90 degree back in to my driveway. No problem at all.
I've always removed my bars on both company's hitches before backing up. While you can backup with them installed you are fighting against the anti-sway which makes turning less sensitive to steering wheel movements.
I have one on order for about a month now. It's supposed to be here by the end of April. I'll be replacing an Equalizer that I have used for over 15 years.
Whats the reason you decided to move away from the Equalizer? I'm trying to decide between the two. Thanks
I notice moving the head up and down requires a wrench on this version rather than the quick connect like it's big brother.
Interesting comment on wind performance. What is your DTW on the middleweight/half-ton combo?
@@WanderingWeekends the TW was 1050, DTW per app 2500.
If you have to choose between the Weight safe middleweight and equalizer E4 which would you pick? Now if the Weight safe was $125 cheaper? Thanks
@@jonbenson4247 tough to answer, I guess that is why I still have both. I just got got a new truck, I may test them both more vigorously to be able to better answer.
Waiting impatiently for the BM review....😁
Appreciate the kind words!
I’d take a look at the Andersen for something under 20ft. Lightweight and easy to use.
Haha!
Let's start an internet campaign asking them to sell or swap us for a longer 2x2 drop bar shaft!
Do you think 2" is long enough to clear the Grand Design Imagine powered lift post?? 🤔

Cheers, Eric
Do you know if the different drop options are also different lengths? Their site is confusing.
@@stevenmullins9799 Yes. But that length is a drop/rise ... not Out Away from the truck.

@@erickessler6094 Right, okay. I would think that would be called "height" but fair enough! Appreciate it.
@@erickessler6094 Also, not sure if you have your trailer or hitch handy, but do you happen to have a hitch pin hole-to-center of ball measurement?
I had a Weight Safe. Great but to heavy. Gave up a little performance going with Anderson. Don't regret it at all.
I want the pro pride but I’m just not comfortable spending 3500 on a hitch that stays on the trailer. Just ordered the weigh safe thanks to your review. Currently using the E2 hitch for my 2800BH and I’m just not comfortable with it. Keep up all the good work I am envious of your life 😂
I hope you enjoy that hitch!
How was the switch from the E2 to the weigh safe? I’ve got the same trailer and hitch as you and am seriously considering the weigh safe.
They are working on that from my understanding.
@@WanderingWeekends Interesting thank you sir for the info. I'll keep an eye out for their improvement on this.
Worth the weight, if you will excuse my little play on words.
Thank you.
Haha 👊
Just started watching your videos while doing so research on getting a different hitch. I am currently using the Equalizer Hitch but wanting something with less sway. I am in North Ga close to Chattanooga TN so we do most our travels in the mountains but your review of this hitch made my mind up on what I want. I do have a question though i am pulling a 22ft box 30ft total with a 3/4 ton truck so would be better off just getting the heavyweight or would the middle weight be more suitable. Thanks for your reviews and look forward to watching the rest of your videos.
I’d go with the heavyweight simply because you can use your tailgate while hitched.
Appreciate you watching!!
Never going to get rid of sway. It’s all about how well the hitch works to control it and bring it back to its proper position.
I’d say unless one is trying to find it (like I do when I’m reviewing these things) no one would ever notice sway using this hitch.
Was wondering if you took bars off when you back up with the middleweight?
I never have. No issues at all. I’d say if I were really jack-knifing it I’d disengage any hitch.
Great video! Any experience with Reese Strait Line? I'm happy with it but curious how it compares.
Ymmv.
I saw the pics you emailed me. That took some significant force. It sounds like they’re taking care of you.
No I have not 🫤
Bought one of these a few days ago. When the app asks for the "gross trailer weight", it is really not clear what to put in. Is this the GVWR marked on the trailer, or is it the current weight of the trailer as you are about to hook up? I sent mail to Weigh Safe, and they answered " this is going to be the trailers current weight. We would recommend for you to take the dry weight of the trailer, and then add on an estimate of how much cargo you have."
I sure think that's confusing.
Thank you
Some people say this doesn’t work with Jayco jay flight. Do you know if it does?I have a 2017 Jayco jay flight 267PHSW
I don’t believe they have an underslung option yet. I think they’re working on it.
Shame on me for taking any of your advice
Steve
Plugs Approved!
Why should I switch from Curt TruTrak to Weigh Safe Heavy Duty?
I’m not sure you should if you are happy with the TruTrack. Are you not happy with it?
I have a 40ft 12000lb travel trailer with 1300lb tongue weight. How do you think it'll handle. I just have truck suck and sway over 65mph with my current set up.
I would definitely step up to their new heavyweight for your trailer. No brainer.
I have a 2" receiver. Heavy one is 2.5"
Someone told me to look at black shocker equalizer hitches with distribution setup.
Great review. Are you doing the Continuum next?
Yes!
Are these hitches you are suggesting (the top 3-4) better than a Husky Centerline? I keep hearing good things about the Centerline but I haven’t been able to get mine dialed in.
Hi I have a question, can I flip the hitch to have a higher ball?
No, you adjust height via the shank.
Great reviews of all the hitches. Thanks! Looking at getting the heavyweight. Really like the added benefit of being able to let tailgate down over the middleweight. Do you have any input on using the heavyweight on a lighter trailer? 25ft with a gross of 7600 lbs.
Send it!! You should be good to go as long as your tow vehicle is adequate.
I’m between the middleweight and the heavyweight. The price isn’t that much different. My trailer falls into the specs of the Middleweight. Wondering if I should just go heavyweight for future proofing or if the bars will be too stiff.
@@joshjandrain What did you decide to do. My max weight is 7500 but damn I'd like to lower my tailgate
@@stevenmullins9799 I actually went with the ProPride which gives me the tailgate access as well.
I have the middleweight installed on my 2018 F-150 and the tailgate is useable. It's close but does come down. That wasn't the case on my previous Equalizer hitch.
Can we swap to use 2” ball? We have 2 trailers different sizes!
@@WanderingWeekends Have you ever towed anything with a Gladiator?
it is a simple yes or no answer have you ever towed anything with a Gladiator?
Like I said… I wouldn’t touch it with a 10ft pole. I’ve had a longer wheelbase Jeep. That told me all I needed to know on whether I’d tow much of anything with either. A jet ski or teardrop? Absolutely. A 23LDE… never.
I just purchased a 22’ Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108DS. Would the Weigh Safe Middleweight be overkill?
I have a jeep gladiator and want to pull a trailer less than 5000 pounds loaded. What hitch do you think i should use?
Has anyone measured how much weight is transferred off the rear axle with this hitch?
That would vary with every trailer.
What is the expected life of the weight guage?
Do you know if those pins for the bars to hitch head will also work on the heavyweight model?
Have you tested a shocker hitch?
They haven’t responded to us.
Would the middle weight be enough for the 2910bh imagine? I feel like its borderline on potential tounge weight of that trailer. Pulling with a F350 7.3L godzilla 2.5” hitch
I would choose the heavyweight. Middleweight would do well but the heavyweight allows for tailgate use.
I have not found any situation that required removing the bars, but they are a major PIA to remove.
How's the noise of the springbars? Do the springbars need to be disengaged when backing up the trailer?
I need to disengage unless you are REALLY jackknifing it (that goes for any of these hitches really). It certainly makes noise. If that is a deal breaker take a look at the TR3.
What was your couplers height on trailer?
It has been a minute but I believe 22.5 inches
Thank you. I love your videos! I am on my second grand design a 267mk. Just bought a weigh safe using your code it worked great. Keep up great videos.
My truck is a 2020 Silverado 1500. Using the Weigh Safe app, it is telling me my max tongue weight is 300-450 lbs, which seems way too low. My two axle cargo trailer empty probabyl has at least a 300 lbs tongue weight.
Here are the values I entered into the app:
Silverado Info:
GVWR 7,200 lbs
GCWR 15,000 lbs
MCC 1,709 MCC
Trailer Info:
GVWR 10,000 lbs
MCC 7,000 lbs
Coupler 2 & 5/16th
What's even more messed up is the Weigh Safe App is "lawyering up". The App is not letting me make any edits to the numbers I entered so I had to delete the app and re-install it. If anyone has some input to share regarding this issue, please reply to this post.
You mentioned this is too big for the Grand Design AIM. Which WDH would you recommend for the AIM?
Just got to part about Andersen...😊
Same question ;)
Can you make tight turns without removing the bars?
Weigh Safe suggests removing the bars if you’re really jackknifing the unit… which is a great idea with any hitch.
@@WanderingWeekends I wouldn't say i have jackknifed, but i have done some tight turns with my equalizer hooked up with no problems.
Same would hold true with the Weigh Safe. I too have used the Equalizer.
What is noise level like?
@Wandering Weekends So when all is said and done, if I'm looking for the least sway, is the HeavyWeight better than the MiddleWeight?
I’d lean heavyweight if you aren’t concerned about the weight of the actual hitch.
@@WanderingWeekends They look to be extremely close in the specs. 23lb difference?
And would it being overkill for 7600lb trailer matter?
