- CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - Robert E. Howard’s legendary Conan is back in a new tale of bravery and heroism - from Heroic Signatures and Titan Comics!
Launching July 26, 2023, the new ongoing comic series is written by acclaimed and long-time Conan comic book scribe Jim Zub (Thunderbolts, Uncanny Avengers), with art by Roberto De La Torre (King-Size Conan, Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D)!
Years after the battle of Venarium, a weary CONAN returns to his homeland to seek rest and solitude. However, a mysterious scout rides in to warn the Cimmerians of an imminent threat on the march from the Pictish wilderness. Will CONAN and his new ally be able to hold off this new horde of invaders?

Love how much the artwork resembles Buscema's from the early Marvel years - especially the look of Conan.
I'm not certain that what I saw wasn't Buscema art.
I think the estates of both John Buscema and Joe Kubert have a pretty good case for plagiarism there.

Phenomenal debut with Conan the Barbarian FCBD! Zub is bringing it with the writing, and De La Torre is THE greatest artist working in comics (his own extremely talented vision with elements of Frazetta, Buscema, and Neal Adams is jaw-dropping)! If the art chores have to be shared down the road, maybe someone could sign up Giorello to return to also illustrate Conan’s continuing adventures!

Zub, Del La Torre and Titan are bringing Conan into a new age. Having been a fan of the Cimmerian for several decades, I recently picked up the FCBD issue and was blown away at the art, color and story. Crom would approve.
Zub, he was my animation teacher back in 2000/2001, talented and a nice guy.
Are his pencils like the legendary John Buscema?

@@2OldGeeksTalking Where is this 'own flair'? I have been reading comics for four decades, and I have yet to see a more obvious and bold case of what could politely be called 'swiping.' Even the poses are recognizably Buscema's. Just swap out Ernie Chan's inking for Joe Kubert, and it's 1980 all over again.
I walked away from comics a couple of years ago and I am going to get every issue of this.

Savage Sword will always be my favorite Conan, but I'm very excited to see to see Hero/Titan take Conan in a new direction. I love the old Marvel Conan and Savage Sword Conan, and the Dark Horse run was phenomenal. The last Marvel run was a hit or miss. I just felt Conan couldn't be Conan with the Marvel Comics of today. Now, if Disney didn't own Marvel, we probably would have gotten something better, but I just never felt their hearts were into making Conan.
This series is very promising... keep it near what Howard envisioned, make it for mature audiences and we'll have a very good work in our hands.

I was absolutely mesmerized Saturday and was immediately drawn to this comic based on the cover alone! The story is fantastic, and this will more than likely be the run that I focus on reading and collecting. You guys should be proud of this. It will be tremendous, for sure.

They are excellent as well - will be getting those if they continue (as well as the French Conan BD ones which are stunning)

I’m new to Conan and the free comic book day issue was great. I’m excited to check this out and will definitely pick up the omnis coming out later this year as well.

I'm so excited for these new comics! I didn't dislike Marvel's latent run with Conan at all but it wasn't the best, not as good as Dark Horse Conan in the 2000's or Marvel's legendary 70's Conan books.
The art here looks über promising and I really enjoyed what Titan have done with Elric and their Doctor Who stuff is easily better than the writing of the last few TV seasons.
I will grab this day one!

@@jimmyju76 actually, that's a v. good point. It also makes sense too, Conan being a licensed character and not a creation of Marvel and as we know, the Howard estate tends to be quite strict with the Conan IP.

Really enjoyed issue #0 and issue #1, rereading them is a treat. Excited to see how this new story develops in coming issues. Good to see Conan back in good hands that respect how R.E.H. brilliantly envisioned and wrote him. Keep it up! And keep it unapologetically BARBARIC!
Pastiches that take place in Cimerria always make me wonder how familiar the writers are with the source material. Do _any_ of the Howard stories take place in Cinneria? The Frost Giant's Daughter is near there, but most of the stories take place in or around deserts or jungles.

Hopefully this publisher has the guts to do Conan right, in the spirit of Frank Frazetta. Fingers crossed Titan listen to the fans instead of Twitter puritans like certain failing publishers.

Looks like classic Conan! I still have every issue 1-100 of the Marvel run (Minus a couple in the middle) but stopped collecting around issue 180 or so because I didnt like the direction they went, which was no longer in the spirit of REH ("Conan and the super friends"? No thanks!) And alot of early Savage Sword magazines. I had heard dark horse did a good run, but I never saw any of those. I have heard fantastic things about Titan though, and how its handled properties like Elric to which even Moorcock himself praised, so I just may have to come back to the Hyborian age after all these years to check this run out. I havent been interested in comics for years now, as just like most every industry its infected with political nonsense. I really hope this is as traditional as it looks.
Same here. After collecting comics for roughly 40 years I had had enough. It took Conan to bring me back (Along with the Fire and Ice by Willinghelm and Manco). Looking forward to trying anything Titan puts out from the RE Howard universe.
@@rgsniper2 Yeah, comics went in a weird direction. I started out reading the paperbacks in the 70s, loved the works of REH and was already a fan of Moorcock, which led me to the comics. But after Roy Thomas and Big John were gone, the newer teams didnt seem to have the same respect for Howards vision.
It looks to me like Titan does!
