Having sung Mozart's Requiem back when I was a student, it forever holds a special in my heart and sounds like no other to me. But I always get goosebumps when listening to the Dies Irae, no matter what composer. This part is always so incredibly powerful and impressive. 🙏
Verdi and Dvorak's versions are, to my ears, the most impressive in terms of the dissonance one might associate with the battle between the Dark and Light. But then I am also a fan of John Williams and his taking inspiration from Holst's "Mars: the Bringer of War" for his "Imperial March." 😅
My favourite is Mozart but my second favourite is not well known-Dies Irae from "Requiem for my friend" by Zbigniew Preisner. With the risk of sounding stupid and choldish I also love requiem fragments appearing in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame ( by Alan Menken)
Mozart's Dies Irae is the ultimate manifestation of terror, despair, mesmerizing beauty, and craftsmanship. The counterpoint and modulations add up. Nothing compares to it. Not even close.

Primo ,Verdi ,Mozart. L'anima vola all'infinito. Sono Italiana di Milano!❤❤ .rappresenta perfettamente la richiesta di perdono per il male che l'uomo compie....questa partitura è ireatica!!!
How are people discarding the perfection that is verdis dies irae tuba mirum!? ITS PURE TERROR IN AUDIO, ULTIMATE JUDGEMENT DAY SOUND! I WILL ADD THAT THE WHOLE REQUIEM OF VERDI IS PEAK! ESPECIALLY THE ONE FROM 2013 DECCA
@davidraveh5966 the decca one is actually live in milan in 2012, i got carried away there but imo its still the best at both tempo and sound, absolute beauty
It's not like I regularly make content. I just looked up Dies Irae compilation and got no results, and was so shocked that I felt I had an obligation to make it myself.

And Verdi?? For me Verdi's is the most terrifying dies irae ever made. It superbly depicts the terror and violence of the day of judgement.
Mozart's Dies Irae was my favorite till I heard Verdi's, it really blew me away, it is more powerful, violent, apocalyptic and horrendous.
Well said, I had the exact same experience. I didn't know music could be so intense, so passionate, so beautiful until I heard Verdi.
