New Yorker music critic Alex Ross whetted my appetite for this piece. Now that I've heard it I must admit it left me quite a bit colder than I was hoping to be left. However, I fully agreed with Ross about the greatness of Kaija Saariaho's last opera, Innocence.
This is an astonishing piece of music. The performance is amazing. Wow!!!!

Yes, boring! I will hear it in the Proms this summer. Maybe I'll get round it then, but so far it's totally unconvincing.
