The winner of the recent poll on the channel was Fallout 4, so that is what I'll be playing next on the channel! I have never played any of the Fallout series before so this will be a blind playthrough. I'll record episodes of this and drop other bits of content in between, I hope you enjoy!

@@mike-thegamingdad Far Harbor and Nuka World are the big story DLCs. Autamatron allows you to build robots and companions/settlers/caravaners. Those are the most important DLCs to purchase.
I know, right? Fallout 4 was my first game, but I made sure to honor a promise to a friend that passed away that I’d play 3 and New Vegas as well. He was one of many friends that taught me everything I know about all things Fallout.

Literally everything can be scrapped for raw materials for either crafting or building this is one of my favorites games along with skyrim the stories and mysteries are incredible

Just ran through a few playthroughs of this game myself. Love it seeing as its based in my home area of Boston! You will enjoy it I bet! Excited for this! Also love that you're going in blind. I suggest trying not too look everything up its better than exploits on your first playthrough.
Yeah I prefer to play it without spoilers first of all, so will avoid watching or looking at anything that'll give anything away 😁 I dont mind tips about what to collect/not to collect or stuff I should craft but yeah thats about it
Hi!👋🐈 After 6 playthrus, having sided up with all factions, I enjoyed the Institute the greatest.
I wrote about 5 paragraphs of "advice", decided to erase it all. You just do what you are doing, great first run thru... enjoy the long journey.
I will say this tho, that the best chem to make, once you have the Chemist trait, is Refreshing Beverage. I always carried 5 bottles in inventory as they have saved me more times than there are stars (well almost).
Also, PIP Boy has a light (flashlight) function that will help you... and us viewers.
The magnifying glass symbol next to junk item, that item is now "tagged" for a component that you require... say adhesive to upgrade a weapon.
Remember: "War. War never changes." 🐈

Every time you see a red work bench it’s an area where you can build a new settlement, these are great for just scraping things for use in other settlements or building new outposts.

This was me in 2017 after deciding to give FO4 a try. And even after all these years Fallout 4 is still the one game i come back to after completing others. So many great things to discover in this game and the lore is top notch

Bottlecaps are the currency that you can buy and sell stuff with. After speaking with Preston you should have picked up the Bobblehead as they also boost your Special attributes. Regards, Gary.

Yes. Part of the lore you skimmed past on the Vault terminals was that Vault Tec was not the nice benevolent protectors of humanity they portrayed themselves as. The vaults were setup to be longterm psychological experiments on humans. Each vault was setup with a unique experiment, with only a few control vaults that had none. One of the FO3 vaults had a bunch of clones of a guy named Gary running around it.

Yes, pick up everything you can & drop it into your work bench for now, especially food & drink and chems as well as junk. You can also use the containers/dressers/ etc. to store all the weapons, armor, mods & clothing you don’t need immediately.
1:01:07 - There is a SPECIAL book in Shaun’s room you missed. It will let you to add a point to one of the SPECIAL stats you can choose. As you travel around the Boston area, you’ll find Vault-tec Bobbleheads which will automatically do the same to their relevant statistic (provided you haven’t already levelled it up to 10!)

I would personally recommend using the special book at your home on the charisma skill will help towards your settlement building later if you choose to do so
I haven't finished the video, I'm getting ready for work but a couple things I remember.
-Bottle caps are currency
-Radiation effects your amount of health
-Foods usually have some amount of radiation damage so it's something to consider
-Everyone else in the vault was not just frozen but they're all dead
-Pick up ALL the ammo you can
-Pick up any bobble heads and comics that you find
-Cigarettes and cartons of cigs are basically 1:1 for caps
-Do not drink any contaminated water
-Be careful using the chems (Jet, RadX, etc) because you can become addicted to them and you'll have to go to a Dr to be healed
-V.A.T.S. works best close to people
-Wouldnt worry about Sanctuary Hills early on. There will be a lot of radiant quests
-Save often, Fallout4 is famous for crashing often and especially in Boston which you will spend a lot of your time. But along with saving make sure you don't have too many previous saves or it can cause the game to bug out.
I'm still only 10hrs into my own playthrough but this is info I think will be helpful

This game does looting so extremely good, the way every piece of junk breaks down into components for literally every crafting system is just perfect for us loot goblins!
A couple of days ago, I started Fallout 4 for the 1st time as well. Love it! As a Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim player, I can safely say Bethesda gets me. Rockstar games may look very polished, but they're SO restrictive. I prefer the freedom Bethesda buggy games provide
Yeah same here, I loved Vice City, San Andreas and GTA5 but they were never games I picked up again once I'd done everything. Whereas Bethesda do replayability a lot better than most 😁
Another thing, unlike Skyrim where you “build” your house by just getting the materials, in fallout you place and build everything from scratch, you can scrap whole structures and build new ones, you gain settlers and give them jobs (shops)
It’s an extremely fun game
This system sounds really good (but complex!), might take me a while to get used to but I'm excited to try it out!

Remember you don't have to breakdown every junk item. It's stored as a whole item but it gets broken down when you use a opponent off the item and excess opponents is stored in workbench..
You don't have to fill up one perk to get to another one, as long as the picture of perk is formed you can put a point in it. They go by levels

Fallout enemies have a cone of awareness. So long as you're not moving and your Sneak level is high enough, you can be next to them and they won't notice. Start focusing on what kind of fighter you want to be as you progress. With time you can become a Jack of All Trades but building at least two offensive skills would help in the beginning.

If there is one thing i could recommend is to scrap everything from your settlements except for crafting stations for the raw materials

There is a stormcellar behind one of the houses in Sanctuary. It is a good place to hide from radstorms when in Sanctuary, and has some decent loot. A lot of people miss it. Scouring every nook and cranny is my Forte, though...amazing what you find. Terminals and notes enrich the universe and game lore.
Yeah someone else mentioned a cellar behind a house in Sanctuary so I'm assuming it's the same one, I plan on searching for it when I go back there 😁
Played this so many times I've modded it to death. Nice to see someone playing it through for the first time and enjoying the vanilla experience. Always forget how cool it really is even without the mods 😂
Awesome thanks for tuning in, feels very strange to be filming myself playing a game I know nothing about that everyone seems to have thousands of hours in. I'm used to teaching others stuff and now I feel very exposed 🤣 haha. It's loads of fun though I'm really enjoying it!
I didn't see anyone else comment on this so a brief Fallout history: it takes place in an alternate reality version of our world where the transistor and microchip were never invented, so all the electronics are based on miniaturized versions of tube technology. Hence the 1950's American suburbia vibes. Fallout 4 is actually a pretty great place to jump into the series. There are a few references to characters you would have met in previous games, but you can absolutely play this blind with no knowledge of the previous games and still figure things out pretty well. I think you missed the tutorial prompt for the VATS system (I believe it said it was on the LB button). It stands for Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System and essentially it is the computer system in your Pipboy calculating hit chances on various targets at extreme speed. The original games in the series were turn based, and this was added when they made the jump from 2d graphics to 3d to simulate that sort of turn based combat. You should play around with it a bit since it is the thing that really sets the Fallout games apart from standard shooters and alot of the perks and abilities are built around that (like the VANS perk that you selected, it only works while in VATS). It is also a great scouting tool to see what enemies are around you. I wouldn't stress about having the "right" build. Pretty much any build is viable in this game, so pick what ever perks seem useful or fun. You can select any perk from a rank equal to your stat level. So for instance, you have a 5 Charisma. That unlocks all the Charisma perks for the first five levels of the chart. At Charisma 6, it would unlock the next level perk, which is Local Leader. The first rank of that perk allows you to setup supply routes between any settlements you establish, connecting their workshops in the way you originally thought they might work. You can select that perk without having to get all the other perks in the levels above it first. I would read every computer terminal you come across. Not only is there a ton of world building and humorous dialogue in there, but the game often leaves clues to secret areas or treasure, passwords, security system controls, etc... If you skip the computer terminals, you are often missing out on a good bit of the story and loot behind any buildings you find. Don't worry about boring us, we wouldn't be watching if we didn't love seeing people getting the chance to experience this world for the first time. Guns are valuable. Rather than leaving them behind you can give extra weapons to Dogmeat to carry until you find a trader to sell them to. The food you cook is superior to old world food you find because it doesn't give you radiation when you eat it, so even just basic cooked meat is better than most food you find. A lot of people will setup crop farms that grow the ingredients for the vegetable starch because lack of adhesive is often the limiting factor when trying to craft improved weapons and armor. Other than that you probably want to be on the lookout for deer, because grilled radstag meat increases your carry capacity. I think that was all the random questions/topics I remember that popped up in the video. So glad you are enjoying yourself. The world of Fallout is one of my favorites and it's always wonderful getting to watch someone experience it fresh for the first time. Gotta catch the second episode now and get caught up.

Wasn't sure what the numbers meant at first, I thought possibly probability which I think has been confirmed now
Fallout 4 is an awesome game. When you're running around the map, explore everything, you never know what kind of treasures that you'll find.
Yeah it does seem very detailed, loads of stuff I need to go back for like safes and what not! 😁👍🏻
Oh, and yes. Anything with the magnifying glass is either are a material you’ve tagged, or can be broken down into it.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet or not but you can pick any perk as long as it is lit up and you’re the right level. Each row is a special level, so for example you have strength 5 - so you can go down to row 5. Then perks scale up according to your level. You can use perk points to adjust your special if you choose to - if there’s a perk you want to unlock or boost that attribute higher.
Nice thank you yeah I thought that might be the case when I was thinning about the perk trees afterwards. I got fixated on the base row without actually looking around and probably picked a rubbish perk! Oh well 🤣 ill look at the trees properly next time, thank you!
@mike-thegamingdad Yup... this does take time. This was not a very friendly "tree" to understand as it was in Skyrim. You are doing great, tho!

So all the junk pretty much you want to pick up you can store it in your workshop and that becomes the materials you build and mod with... so every from cigar boxes to coffee cups are useful especially in the beginning as you will need tons of material to build anything

One tip I can offer for playing Fallout games, search EVERYTHING. Look at EVERYTHING. You NEVER know what goodies might be sitting in plain sight but you missed because you weren't looking close enough. For example, a very important book you missed in your son's room 3 boxes outside the vault and that medicine cabinets are containers. Finally, when you level up you can pick ANY perk that is colored in, it is only the ones that are whited out that you can't pick until you have enough points in the needed SPECIAL stat. You aren't limited to the first row unless you only have 1 stat in that skill.

I'm glad I found your playthrough, which I'm enjoying a lot. I started F4 a few months ago and have 160 hours in now. I'm not sure which tips you'd like, but of course no spoilers. I'll just add here a couple: 1) Check the mirrors/medicine cabinets in bathrooms, they often contain bobby pins and other items. 2) Your Pip-Boy has a light. On PC you hold down the button that brings up the Pip-Boy (Tab), maybe it's the same for a controller?

and remember the armor in the game works with a layer system, so you can apply legs arm chest and head parts over yout vault suit to boost your defense.

Ok something random that I usually don't do, especially in a new community but that inspired my own look on that intro based on experiences I've had with people that have been in wartime scenarios. Here goes...
War, War never changes. It changes us, those who fight and die in it. It brings us to realize what we are capable of and sometimes what we don't want to be. It alters your perception of everything, from your neighbors to your family. War ALWAYS changes those who fight in it. But as for itself, War, War never changes.
I hope you all enjoy that and it gets you thinking. That exact piece will probably never be written again as I will probably never remember the wording.

I played Starfield when it was released but after a few months decided to drop it. Instead I did a poll with this, Baldurs Gate 3, Witcher 3 and Elden Ring and this won with 40% of the vote 😁 guess its still very popular!

Thank you very much 😁. I got accused of lying yesterday by someone who said I've clearly played this before. I can assure everyone that is not the case, but I've put thousands of hours into Skyrim, hundreds into Starfield and other RPGs, so the mechanics of this are similar. Settlement building in Starfield is very much like this so I felt like I got the hang of that pretty quickly in episode 3 which I filmed last night and will get posted later 👍🏻

Your work shops can be connected once you upgrade you perks under charisma there is a perk called local leader once that is upgraded you can assign settlers as provisioners which with will connect you work shops.. also taking all your junk out of the work station dropping it and using the building mechanism to scrap it will break the junk into components which makes it easier to see how much of each you have an well as increase the build limit

Just found this. I love watching people discover any of the Fallout games! I did get a tad frustrated though as you went through rooms so fast and missed so many things on the floors and walls (ammo, useful junk, medicine cabinets with stimpacks, and so forth) lol

You’re doing much better than I did when I first played these games. There’s an ability that will make your junk stash shared between all the workbenches. Also, your pip-boy has a flashlight (press and hold tab for a few seconds, I believe). Just make sure you turn it off when trying to be stealthy.

Each new workbench you find does not share inventory but later on you can link them via settlers you recruit, on the other hand you can build a different base at each area you find a workbench, the green glow at the end of an area highlights the limit within that area you can build within. Something the game doesn't tell you: press and hold whatever button you use to bring up the pip-boy.

Makes me want to play it again! On my second play through, I played as a woman so I could get all the crazy hairstyles. Your SPECIAL picks were good. Endurance is good early on because it keeps you alive. Strength is also good because it allows you to carry a lot of stuff, which you will start collecting soon. They all have their used, but those two are the biggies for starting out.

My second and 3rd playthrough I was a woman for the perk Black Widow, major advantage. There's not too many female enemies so the mans same perk is useless.

Found your channel trough your Skyrim series that I’ve really been enjoying. Echoing others here but really nice to see you dig into Fallout without having played it before. The first time with Bethesdas games are special so hopefully you can stay away from any and all outside sources regarding story and mechanics. Will be waiting for part 2.
Yeah I must say I'm envious of those who comment on Skyrim stuff saying "first time player here" or "I recently started playing". You only ever do it first once, so I guess I'm on the other side now 😁. Will be recording part 2 tomorrow evening (Sunday) so watch this space!

Grab just about everything you can carry. When in one of your cities, you can break don't items into components - which you can later use to modify weapons, armor, or necessary items.
I think I've gone the other way now, in episode 4 I had about 4 pool cues at one point so I could break them down. I seem to need so much wood for settlement building 😅
I love this game, even today and especially with all the mods you can use making it like new again, different quests, clothes and even endings and building assets.
Really good vid! The 1st time playing Fallout 4 is always special! In my 1st playthrough I got distracted by the outside & tried to talk to my neighbors to see if they were OK! I died because if you take too long the bombs drop LOL! Great job, keep up the good work! I look forward to watching the other vids!

Yellow boxes you should always check, your Pipboy will also categorize what is junk and what is not. But, junk is subjective as you'll soon find out. You missed something in Shaun's room under the dresser. Just a tip on terminals, you should open all menus all the way in them even if you don't read them.

Even empty bottles that gives you glass that's a needed commodity anything else you can get your hands on
Seems like the empty bottles are more useful than the full ones as the full ones give you rads 🤣
Cool, you always remember your first time. 😁 Early game you will want to collect everything. All "Junk" can be broken down into materials for crafting and everything can be sold for "Caps", the in game currency. Early game caps are good for purchasing crafting materials and weapons.

Clipboards contain springs, which you will need just about every time you try to upgrade a weapon. Collect as many as you can.

Hold down B for flashlight & light for Power Armor ( it will help the people watching see whats going on especially at night ) ! Pick up everything you can sell it for caps or trade... there are roaming traders and places with buildings traders... good luck & have fun.

Great to see a new fallout 4 player, ive lost track of how many times ive played this game myself, have just recently started a new play through but with mods, there is a great mod called sim settlements which am using and there is a new mod coming soon called fallout: London, as for junk if you want to build up settlements you'll definitely need to pick up nearly everything that's not nailed down, unfortunately this game turned me into an horder 😂 anything i come across in the game i pick up if it can be picked up i always become over encumbered lol, looking forward to seeing more, you've just got another sub 👍👌

Yeah I like the scavenging element, as someone who always ends up over encumbered in games as well it made me feel a lot better that everything seemed to have a use 🤣. I've heard about Fallout London, I originally assumed it was a spin off like Fallout 76, didn't realise it was a mod. Will have to play that when I've done Fallout 4 base game!

Finally. So i played fallout 3 and new vegas back in the day and loved it and i just got fallout 4 last week and playing it and im loving it, the only issue for me is almost every video on the game is about how to exploit bugs and glitches, its nice to see videos of someone having actual fun with the game itself and learning the game like me.

I'm glad to see you enjoying the game so far. There are lots of comments. I'm sure they've given you the 411 on the basics. I'll just add that examine the clothes you get. Some will boost your stats, particularly the Sequin Dress towards Charisma when trying to persuade, buying and selling. Extra weapons can be broken down at the weapons workbench, but I recommend getting the first level of Scrapper. I've only played this game 5 times. The bugs in the tutorial had me put the game down for two days before I dared to pick it up again. Vans is the equivalent of Clairvoyance in Skyrim. The game gives quest marks, so you don't need it. If you think what you saw at the Red Rocket is brutal, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Yeah I was worried the moles would be nothing, I didn't particularly like the sound of the ghouls either. They'll way the sheriff described them made me think of those things in I Am Legend that hide from sunlight

All 'junk' contains crafting components. There are only like 3 items that are actually junk, folders, burnt books and burnt magazines irc. If you examine an item, if it has components, it's not junk.

I have 7643.3 hours in Fallout 4, and still love it. So it's nice to see someone discover it for the first time! If you get into "Mods" there is so much content revolving around female characters.

Get those Bobbleheads. They are extra permanent skill points
They are scattered throughout the world so you have to keep your eyes open for them.

Pick up as much adhesive and aluminum as you can. junk can be broken down at a work shop and hot-keyed as well. you'll thank me later.

Bethesda does reuse a lot of the same voice actors. Your robot butler Codsworth, for example is the same voice actor who voiced Belethor, the merchant in White Run, and Lucan (who gives you the Golden Claw quest in Riverwood) in Skyrim.

Loot everything! This game has an in depth crafting system. Pick up every desk fan for screws, every bit of tape, and aluminum cans and trays. You will need A LOT of these items.
