Those interested in the kaiten should read 'Kaiten Special Attack Group, A Story of Stolen Youth', the autobiography of Yutaka Yokota. He gives sobering accounts of the brutality of IJN training, the dangers and challenges of learning to operate the kaiten, and vivid accounts of the missions he carried out and his remarkable tales of survival. Yutaka Yokota used Asashi Weekly newspaper for much of his his historical commentary. Captain Zenji Orita, skipper of I-47, who carried Sekio Nishina and three other kaiten pilots on the Kikusui mission to Ulithi in 1944 wrote a weekly column for the newspaper in 1947. Orita admitted that most of the 6th Submarine Fleet records had been destroyed prior to the occupation. Orita relied on his memory only so many of the historical facts in Yokota's autobiography are dubious. However, Yokota gave a good account of his personal experiences. His book is one of many resources I used when I wrote the book "Kaiten" which is still available in on-line. Kaitenkenshokai in Japan published my book in the Japanese language. My book had 35 pages of research Endnotes with all of my research sources.
@@mikemair136 Thanks for the info! Your book looks fascinating. Actually, I'm the guy who translated Yokota's book.
