Doom Ultra - Leap Pad Ultra Hack

- Thanks again to is0-mick, I got Doom up and running on the Leap Pad Ultra. I went with chocolate-doom and hacked in cheat codes and the ability to load custom wads. I have not added any custom wads yet, but that is coming.
Edit: Due to many people wondering... although this is a bit outdated now, but we created a program that allows you to install apps to the devices over at spiffyhacks.com
I compiled Doom to work on the device and bundled up all the required resources into a .tar file which the installer app uses to send to the device and install. This is what you see at the beginning of the video.
It then installs the video and shows up as an installed game. You then simply tap it to run.
This was more of just a proof of concept messing around with this stuff. It is not ideal to play Doom this way due to the lack of input on the device. If you want to play Doom, play it on a PC or Console :D I am not sure if I even have the files for this anymore.
I imagine someone forgetting they installed this and just handing this to their 5 year old cousin.

this is BBQ from 3 years after I left this comment, I'm currently trying to hack the Leapster 2 in an attempt to replicate this video, pray for me as I don't have any documentation or experience in hardware reverse engineering, at least it runs Linux

Because it is more of a proof of concept rather than actually being useful. If someone wants to play Doom, they play it normally on a computer or console. It is not super playable with the limited inputs on a LeapPad

the volume buttons i believe? i'm not too sure as i haven't tried this for myself, but the start screen does allow for input with the volume buttons, & when they zoom the camera out we can see the persons hand over where the volume buttons go :-)

+Jeremy Womack I used my LeapPad Manager software here: spiffydirectory.com/software/LeapPadManager-22 to install it and cross compiled the source code along with some code modifications to get it to work via buildroot.
