  • I keep wondering "which synth of mine can sound most like the Kawai SX-240. And I still haven't found it. But - the Jupiter 6 can get really nice and mellow if you try.

Just found ur channel ! Love the improvs with the real synths . There is something true about playing them in an ambient setting over so much “ambient” music out there that is generated by simple midi or even AI and knob twirling . Keep it up!

It’s like discovering a secret healing oasis after a huge boss battle. All your stress instantly fades away and you can just chill out as long as you want before going back into the wild. With free mana of course.

What are your thoughts on the Kawai SX-240 compare to JP-6? I have one (SX-210) and like it very much. Can sound like a string machine with the ensemble effect..

Hey! I've thought a lot about it. The JP6 is just kind of a wild card where the two oscillators never really sound in tune together, which can create a 'nice' sounding pulse... while the SX-240 with its DCOs gets a little tamer.
The Ensemble effect is nice - I am not sure, but I thought it was the same chorus chip as the Juno's (or at least replacements seem to suggest that). I turn it off because it's noisy and a little too in your face.
The SX-210 and 240 seem fairly different too, just between the 1 v 2 oscillators per voice - although I haven't looked too much into the SX-210. It does have a nice interface (you don't have to click buttons to move all the way over to the parameter you want to change.
Anyway - I think you can 'get similar sounds' if you make sure to keep the Jupiter a little tame and close down the cutoff knob. Where they differ is in how crazy the Jupiter can get with sync and crossmod - something the SX can't do. That doesn't mean it's not good in its own way, because it is (or they are).
      Hope that helps :)
