"Durga" is the name of the deity. The mother goddess.
    "Puja" means prayer/praise/worship/ritual.
"Pandal" is the temporary bamboo tent/installation where the idol of Durga is established and worshiped for multiple days before it is submerged in the water at the end.
Also, you are right. There is indeed another festival where an idol of a deity is established in a pandal, worshiped and then submerged in water at the end. That one is dedicated to Lord Ganapati aka Lord Ganesha. The festival is known as Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav.
Durga Puja is actually part of Navaratri festival, which literally translates to "Nava" (Nine) and "Ratri" (Night).
So it is the festival where the divine primordial feminine energy is worshiped over 9 days/nights.
And today (24th Oct) is Dussehra aka Vijayadashami, wherein "Dus" or "Dashami" means ten or 10th day. So after 9 days of Navaratri we celebrate the victory of the mother goddess on the 10th day.
Hope this clears things a tad bit!

Before British rule Bengal (where people speak Bengali language)was a large state, after 1947 Britishers divided Bengal in two parts. One West Bengal, a state of India and other is Bangladesh, now a country. Kolkata ( Calcutta during British rule) is the biggest city of West Bengal.

    • @atulnamdev5840
      @atulnamdev5840 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Why you are giving the wrong information. Actually it was 1947 when Britishers divided india into two parts one you know republic of india and another is pakistan but pakistan had two part one was west pakistan ( current pakistan) and other was east pakistan (current bangladesh) but west pakistanis only used east pakistan resources and not treated them well. I remember two events one MD. Ali Jinnah declared the there would be only one language that is Urdu. This decision of Jinnah hurt majority of Bengali speaking people of East Pakistan. 2nd in prime minister's election the candidate of East Pakistan won the election but west Pakistanis never wanted a Bengali person to rule over them so Pakistan's army imprisoned the sheikh mujeeb ur rehman the winning candidate. His followers started a freedom movement in East Pakistan. It was 1971 when India entered into this and helped East Bengal with our army to form a new country from east Pakistan to Bangladesh. In 1971 war 93000 soldiers surrendered to Indian army. Then sheikh mujeeb ur rehman became prime minister of bangladesh. For info his daughter sheikh haseena is current pm of bangladesh but rehman was assasinated by x person. And that x person lives a luxury life in Canada. That's why india called canada safe haven for terrorist. Even Bangladesh govt. Doesn't like Canadian govt.
We love Canadians but Canadian govt..... I don't hate Canadian govt. But laugh at them.
West Bengal and Bangladesh share their boundary. Both are Bengali speaking but do you know why west Bengal is known as West Bengal even after being on the eastern side. The reason I've explained above. Before 1971 Bangladesh was east Pakistan or east Bengal. So remaining part was west bengal which is among 28 states of india. And whole bangal was a very big region. Before 1911 kolkata was capital of india and British east india company started ruling over india from bengal. That time out freedom movement was going on . So 1905 they divided Bengal. But the division was annulled in 1911 and Delhi was announced a new capital of India.

this festival is basically a celebration of divine female power, we celebrate how strong and beautiful women are. Ma Durga represents a perfect feminine power and ideal mother, wife, friend, sister and more and that's why in western and central India we also call her Ma sakti ( mother of power ) 😇 may ma Durga bless you, defiantly India has not just festivals BUT MEGA FESTIVALS

Puja means Worship :) Durga is the name of the deity/goddess. Durga puja happens twice a year one in spring time another in Fall/Autumn (called Shradhya Durga puja. Shradh means Autumn/Fall season). It's celebrated all over India at the end of Shradh season of Indian calendar over nine-nights (nav-rarti), but in West Bengal it's most prominent as in Bengal/east India region worship of Shakti (loosely female form of divine energy) is traditionally strong.

Atithi Devo Bhavah, please come to Kolkata during the Durga Pujas!!!
    You all are welcome.
Durga Puja is the one and only festival from S-E Asia to get a UNESCO recognition under intangible heritage-culture sector.
Here, in this festival, we worship womanhood, motherhood, peace and spirituality.
So good to see you covering this in here- as a Bengali, I feel proud.
This is the Indian way, we have regional celebrations- rather each state has its own celebration, it's vast- cnt be listed.
And yes, we only hear a lot about India-Pakistan division but Bangladesh was also taken out of us. Bengali people constitute the 3rd largest ethnic group in the world.

Actually we bengalis we enjoy in every festival over religion. Because rituals and religion is different and person to person but enjoying in festival for everyone. Because during Eid , different pujas and Christmas everyone comes out on the streets and have some fun. We have the highest crowd gathering during yearly festival Of Durga Puja and Christmas. In all over India it's celebrated as navaratri , they woreship the same goddess but in different way .....but in Kolkata or in the whole west bengal state it's celebrates way more massive and different way ....in these days it's feels like a different world .....if you ever come to a bengali family during durga puja you will know how a real celebration looks like ....❤️❤️
And yes every single pandle is temporary; people started to make the big pandal maximum 3 months before the festival...and every pandal have their own theme ( only the big organizations around west bengal like 4000 ) and after the festival they untied the pandals...and started think new theme for next year's puja ❤️❤️

Around West Bengal region it is known as Durga Puja . And on the other regions it is known as Navratri. Nav-9 ratri-nights so it's a 9 day long festival and last four days celebration is very crowded. 10th day we burst/burn Ravan(a demon defeated by lord ram exclusie in ramayana) to commemorate god's Victory over evil. And in hindu culture after death of our relatives we clean up our home with holy water(Ganga river water) and paint our houses. Since ravan was a very learned bramhan so after his death we do so. And in modern days it is known as preparation of another big festival Diwali. Which is celebrated to commemorate lord ram's return to Ayodhya from srilanka with his wife sita and brother laxman after defeating ravan. When lord ram came back residents of ayodhya celebrated his return by lightening diya/candle. Hence in diwali we light diyas and use crackers to celebrate Diwali. Hope you get a concise explanation..

Every year Nav ratri is celebrated in all over india as per Hindu Calendar. In city of Kolkata, West Bengal celebrates this Mother Godess Durga festival more enthuziastically bcoz Godess Durga is Bengals States Clan Godess.

The Hindu Goddess Durga is worshipped as one of the key aspects of the "mother goddess" known as Devi. Devi is the primordial goddess or the creator of the universe. She is supreme energy from where all other energy branches. Durga's energy is an aspect of this Devi

Most of the India celebrate together, they might have different rituals, different name for festival and different reasons to celebrate, but they celebrate together. Like in other parts of India, people celebrate navratri by fasting, or like in Gujrat, people play dandiya(folk dance form), other parts, people perform ramleela(drama for telling the story of lord rama). So basically, during this time of the year, everyone is in festive mood

Mother Goddess is representation of everything that is Feminine. She represents compassion, motherly affection of nurture, patience, inner strength and live giving force in the universe. Our Maa Bharati, Goddess of Bharat (India) represents us, our culture and civilizational spirit as a nation of 10000 years old at the very least.

Navratri & Durga Puja are basically the same puja of Mother Goddess Durga with little different Puja styles or Vidhis ...In Navratri each & every 9 avataars of Mother Durga is worshipped on each 9 days & in Durga Puja the whole form of Mother Durga is worshipped for last 5 days of the Navratri . Puja means prayer it's not the name of The Mother Goddess
Yup , the immersion of the idols takes place on the day after Navratri ends i.e the on the 10th day ...This type of immersion into water also takes place in Ganesh Chaturthi festival ..That takes place on the 11th day of Ganesh Chaturthi festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha , the son of Maa Parwati & Lord Shiva

We are not Idol worshipers, we are worshipers of Conscience . When an Idol is in the shop it is just an Idol but when it is placed in a Temple with a mantra (Spells) it brings their Part of conscience to it and we worship that. Only Religion in the World where Women Worship.
