Lots of gear comes out of China. Where things get a little wonky is when the brands themselves are Chinese. Often, Chinese companies that supply the parts to American brands copy the specs with lower quality materials to create an effective copy. That said, we're planning a shootout with a bunch of these mini pedal brands in the new year because honestly, they do the freakin' job!!
@@onzkicg Yeah, It does that. Then again, the signal from a sustained chord, or moreover note, will naturally get softer and quieter, easily falling under the threshold of what signals can get through the gate. So, I can't really blame the pedal for that.
Hey Eric ! So I got my $30 buck noise gate thanks to your review and HOW DID I GO THIS LONG WITHOUT IT ?? This is now an essential pedal on my board. Just as awesome as you said. The soft gate is wonderful. Now I can use my Ibanez Tone Lok pedals free from hiss !
I have the same pedal but it's called Donner Noise Killer. Pretty sure it's the same pedal rebranded. Having used ISP g string and regular pedals before I can confirm it does the job prey much the same as them.
you sir saved me a 100$, i was looking for MXR smartgate, I use to have a caline noise gate, but its bulky so i sold it, it works the same as rowin, now im getting this rowin coz of its footprint
The pedal market has changed. You can buy today a lot of that micro-pedals which are equal to bigger ones, but cost not much. I am a mooer/tomsline fan, got plenty of their micro pedals, love them.
Do you use this through the effects loop? I just purchased the 5150 mooer preamp and I don’t know if I use this after the amp or next to the mooer in the effects loop too.
Guys help me I just got my rohin noise gate and all it does is immensely turn down the overdrive/ volume of the amp. It doesn’t get rid of feedback. What should do?
I have the EXACT same mini noise pedal. I love it. Also I love my tc noise gate. I put them head to head. And damn. The mini pedal gave me a run for its money
I bought the Rowin Noise gate and found that it sucks tone out of the signal. It kills the high end, and reduces volume when playing--no matter what the setting. Deal-Breaker. Maybe that's why it's only $30.
wow.ive been wondering about the performance of this pedal and you squelched all my worries and provided me the full answers I need.i also like my tone and note trails to not be cut off...lol.thanks bro.
Great video thank you..l don't have any pedals..but l use the amp distortion..can l use these noise gate pedal straight in the front..l don't have a loop..but is it cool to go threw the front.
I had an MXR smart gate, sold by Dunlop, but designed by Tom Scholz as part of the Rockman line of modules. I needed another gate for my Rockman rig, and could use two of them for my stereo rig. Tom Scholz uses one early in his signal, chain, right after his sustainer, which houses a compression and distortion stage. If I run that rig through my stereo rig, I will use one of each as the last thing going into the amps. I can also use them on my pedal board as part f the stereo rig. So far they work great!
Thanks for this video. Ok so this pedal is really a Clone of ISP Decimator ? filtering the hum and hiss out, not just between notes but even during playing ... ? So the noise is still in the Sound or not? Thanks
Hey Eric thanks for this review, I play a Tele through a Fender Hot Rod Deville with a Wampler Pinnacle set on Boost/Modern and when when I crank it up it sequels like crazy , I play punk music so I need overdrive but with the single coils it's got a tone of feedback. Hey here's a beauty tip for your nails haha, my wife and daughter use gel nail polish and it last's a long time and takes a beating! I felt weird typing that on a guitar review haha.
thanks for the vid man, I'm going to buy one, I bought a joyo dyna compressor recently for $36 after trying to decide which boss compressor would be right for me, couldn't be happier with the Chinese one and $100 extra dollars in my pocket
Just bought this pedal because of this review I’ve been looking for a noise gate but only like the isp in demos but seen this for sale and noticed that you liked it more and hearing the difference was almost nonexistent I ordered it right away
Any word on the somewhat pricey Deci-mate Micro? Anyone? I know it does not work like the G-String, but I am wondering how good a simple in/out noise gate it is.
Just bought one and you’re absolutely right. This noise gate is perfect. I used to have the Decimator. Lately I’ve been using the Behringer clone of the NS-2. Switched to the Rowin and I’m thrilled with it. I like both switch settings and it’s super easy to dial in. Thanks for making this video. I’m pretty sure it’s you that made me aware of this pedal! Cheers.
Does the Rowin have the tone-suck like the NS-2? I'm thinking of getting a ISP Decimator for my FX loop bc my NS-2 sucks tone so hard in the FX loop even in the X-cable method.
Thank you for not making a clickbait title. I wanted to watch this review because I respect your “ears” and wanted to keep watching to know why you thought this was dope. Cheers.
It's unfortunate that people have taken "true bypass" and associated it with "better." There are particular places and situations where true bypass is fine, and there are others where a buffer is absolutely necessary. People find this out pretty quick when they fill their pedalboards with true bypass pedals and realize that the equivalent of 1000 feet of cable in resistance has turned their guitar tone to absolute mud. If only they had a buffer, but oh wait that's not "true bypass" so it must not be good... ugh.
True bypass isn't better or worse than buffered bypass, they are both 100% necessary. I WANT a buffered bypass noise gate cause its at the end of my front of amp signal chain, that way my pedals are sandwiched between buffers so i dont have high end signal loss while using lots of pedals which means more cable which means more cable capacitance. Its astonishing the amount of guitar players who think their amps are just warm as fuck and lack high end because of the way they were designed when really its due to a large pedal board with all true bypass pedals. The reason companys sell TB as better is cause consumers are dumb enough to believe that in some way it is better. Depending on where you plan on using the pedal and depending on how many pedals your running you should know for certain which one you need in that spot, just buying any pedal you like without considering if its buffered or not isnt the way you build a good pedal board/signal chain. True bypass is actually less components than buffered pedals and easier to build(ive built many pedals) so its not like its a feature you should pay more for or consider and "extra bonus" unless theirs a reason why you specifically need it somewhere. Try running a large pedal board with all true bypass pedals. People really should do their research and learn to understand that one isnt better than the other they are just both important depending on where they are in your pedal chain and how many pedals your running. Theres a reason more expensive pedals these days have a dip switch on the PCB or enclosure mounted to select either TB or Buffered or the other. Saying one pedal is better than another cause its true bypass is just wrong and cringe. I run my pedals Buffered, TB, Buffered, TB etc. for the most part unless im using a fuzz or another pedal that doesnt react well with a buffer before or after it.
I will probably end up buying this noise gate. But buffered bypass isn't worse. It is just different. There are amazing musicians with amazing tone that use Boss pedals
Nice! Been looking for a noise gate or noise suppressor. True bypass is great. I try to have all my rig as analog as possible. Do analog noise gates exist? I know the boss noise suppressor is listed on analog man.
2:30 im not gonna as a bassist who digs metallica a lot it was hard not to play king nothing on my bass (its in my lap while i watch) lmao everytime i hear a sustained note like that i think of king nothing
Easy fix. Learn to mod your pedals and thats one of the first things youll learn. Also it might be a buffer, bad cable, buffered loop etc causing your problem.
Not sure if this pedal in particular is a faulty one but it does not work literally half as good as my Decimator 2 that I literally gave to my bro, I was totally excited about this one but yeah I think I’m buying another Decimator 2.
My pocket tells me I should go for the Rowins noise gate. At the moment it seems my pocket has a rather loud voice, at least louder than any difference in quality my ears can notice. 🤣 Great tip, Eric! Thanks for sharing!
I actually bought that Rowan pedal because of your review a while back, i have a tele and i play high gain punk stuff so the squealing is crazy and i needed to kill it or at least tone it down, it actually works pretty well for what I play. I'm trying to switch back to a humbucker guitar but this pedal is a pretty good deal, I play through a Blackstar HT Stage 60 2x12 but through a Vintage 30 4x12 cab which cranks so i run the pedal on the hard setting at 12 o'clock.
I got one today. I like it as it does the job great! Especially for the $$ but it does mess w/ the treble, bass, and dynamics on higher threshold settings. My Zoom G3 NR does alter the sound a bit too. I doub't the ISP would be as bad. All in all a great buy! Thanks for the vid.
Seems like this pedal is well worth the $30 for sure. I would have gotten one of those Noise Killer pedals but I got my ISP Decimator for $50. The whole true bypass thing is very over rated. The only pedals I notice severe tonal coloration with is most wah pedals and Digitech Whammys. The buffered bypass in a Boss pedal at the start or end of the chain will actually preserve the signal over long cable runs. If you run a hefty effects setup with wah pedals and stuff that actually does suck tone, then use a signal buffer at the end of the chain. That is what I do and I've never heard any complaints on tone after a gig. Many great records and live performances are made daily with buffered style bypass pedals.
After watching your video I just got the donner noise killer. Best choose ever man. I already reviewed it on my channel. No need to spend hundreds on it. Thanks dude
Hi Eric! I’m not sure what’s up with mine, but I tried every position with this baby in my chain and it barely did anything.. although when I put it from my guitar true bypass to my amp Marshall JVM 210 it worked fantastic! Do you maybe have an idea at how I can get this to work?
