Why can't they speed up the section from Liverpool Street to Chelmsford? Gotta be the slowest "express" line in the UK! Should be at least 100 mph throughout.
The section between Liverpool Street and Shenfield holds a maximum speed of 90 mph, because the signals were placed so close to allow maximum capacity, so that cant be improved. As you ascend up the bank towards Ingatestone the linespeed then raises to 100 mph, although in some cases such as this, the service frequency means one small delay can cause a huge bunch up with trains struggling to reach above 60
