A restaurant that has been in existence since 1958, Mangala Vilas in Salem is known for its entirely non-vegetarian menu that features homestyle dishes made using spice blends ground fresh every day.
In this throwback episode, we visit their relatively newer, 15-year-old outlet of Mangala Vilas on New Bus Stand Road Salem to savour a hardcore robustly flavoured non-vegetarian feast!
Before getting to the table, we step inside the kitchen to watch the making of the signature Mangala masala that is used in the making of every dish on the restaurant’s menu. And taste 12 of the most popular dishes here - Kothu Parotta, Vanjaram Fry, Naatu Kozhi Leg Roast, Mutton Pepper Fry and more!

They were in Bangalore Koramangala too. They opened the restaurant during the start of Covid times and closed it 6months back.

Mangala Vilas name at Salem took me by surprise. Know first hand that even prior to Independence, from 1930-40s to 1950s, a pure vegetarian restaurant 'Mangalavilas' was operating from Sevapet in Salem by Shri H. Subramaniya Iyer. Mangalavilas name seems to have been usurped since, that too for a non-veg restaurant !

Sir, I think this hotel was one of your first introduction to KONGU Dishes, but i must say for a person born and brought up in the Salem Coimbatore region, the food at MANGALA VILAS is very very below avg. There are so many other places that have a much better food.
Every Dish is made with the same Masala and nothing tastes good. The Chicken and Mutton gravies had no taste at all.
