The last bit starting at 3:08 and ending song, gut punches me and brings me to tears. Sounds like the something you’d hear at a funeral. I feel that bit captures life after a relationship. Having to return to a life without someone and feeling that emptiness. It’s sitting at home on the weekend looking around and noticing your surroundings may look the same but somehow looks darker than it used to. The color and life feels gone.
How bold and yet vague his lyrics are. I am in love with this song and whole album. Not a single inch of me that doesn't love it. SUFJAN is baring his soul.
I saw him 2 nights ago. he played a WAY different version of this. an upbeat, electronic and heavy bass version. it was a complete memory burn for me. i knew i had to find that song. but sadly, it doesn't seem to be anywhere on the internet
I've loved sufjan for a long time and then i heard this album playing over the local campus radio and realized he is singing about Eugene, OR where i have lived for the past 7 years in most of this album...what a magical moment...i often climb "Spencer's Butte" that he sings about in this song
his. voice. it's so soft and soothing, even the most vulgar of words could sound like honey coming out of his mouth. my dad used to play this song, and i've never appreciated this song until now. thanks, dad :)
Why did you come into my life Sufjan!? Your music came in like a film score throughout these past few months. Ever since your performance of Mystery of Love I went through one emotional rollercoaster I can never truly forget. I’m now weak and pretty much empty and my emotions are so dry that its unsupportable for anyone around me. Thanks Sufjan for your music was The Only Thing why I continued at all. It was the desire of sharing my life with my old childhood friend and tell him how much he still means to me. Ever since I listened to The Predatory Wasps Of The Palisades Are Out To Get Us I had the urge to show your music to him. We were friends and for a small time we were in love. It’s all gone now. I Should’ve Known Better but as I type this my childish fondness of him still circulates in my head. He was my Blue Bucket of Gold on New Years 2018 this was the year all about him. Now I lay alone with nothing. Still contemplating in ending it all, I just want to feel that love he offered to me. An embrace that no other person has ever offered. Sorry for this long winded writing but to finish it all off I would just love to repeat those last lines from Eugene, “now I’m drunk and afraid wishing the world would go away what’s the point of singing songs, if they never even hear you”.
Lucio Argento I can't tell if there are transition chords. I play it upstroke, then downstroke/upstroke during those parts. The Em is barre on the 7th fret, then you got up the neck with the rest.
They're in there, but I'm having difficulty discerning them because they're not open. I'm not too handy with the shapes up there, but I feel like this would sound best with open chords, capo'd on the 5th fret. I'll post if/when I figure them out. Thanks, btw
Hope Sufjan's soundtrack for the upcoming film adaptation of "Call Me By Your Name" by André Aciman is just like this song...dreamy, sexy, with that gentle ache of longing.
Just saw Sufjan tonight in Dallas, Texas playing at the Majestic. So happy he decided to come here and perform his new album for us, completely blown away by the live performances of his songs. I know that he doesn't like to come to Texas, so I feel really lucky to have experienced his poetic genius in person after years of listening to his beautiful music!
Of all of Sufjan's songs, this sounds like the only one that was made by putting Simon & Garfunkel and Kings of Convenience in a delightful, warm blender
What a absolute gorgeous masterpiece of an album - It's true art in it's purest form. I'm tempted to label it as indie/folk but it's just art in my opinion when think about it - never mind the labels and genres. As time passes this will become a classic and a defining album from the decade we are in, just wait and see. In the future we will reminiscene, sentimentally, the time when this album came out and what it meant for us as a generation. The melancholic, delicate, reflective music Sufjan Stevens makes are heartbreaking. And dare I say, CARRIE & LOWELL is in my opinion without a doubt his best work, just perfect. Just as some older folks feel nostalgic about the music of the past, 60s, 70s and 80s we will feel the same about this. This album will stand out as a influential and (in time) legendary piece of art - a musical milestone of the 2010's! Enough said, I apologize for the rambling.

Saw myself on Spencer's Butte (All of me wants all of you)
Landscape changed my point of view (All of me wants all of you)
Revelation may come true (All of me wants all of you)
Now all of me thinks less of you (All of me wants all of you)
This was an experience
makes my heart cry
Such a beautiful song :/
Holy fucking fuck I love this melody
Same tho
I fell in love even though I'm just a pitiful rebound.
There's definitely an E minor in this one. Capo strong also. Thank you.
Haunting.
This song reminds me of River Phoenix so much, and also the characters of “A ghost story” and i don’t know why but sounds like them
