Hi Laura, Love your videos. I am an Aquascape contractor in NC. We use all sorts of ground loving plants in our ponds. As you suggested, we remove the soil first and plant directly in the rocks. One of my favorites are impatiens. They add so much color to a water feature. The floaters are nice (water hyacinth and water lettuce), cardinal flower, pitcher plants, venus fly traps (carnivorous would need a little more earth under them and can stay in containers, but soaking in water). I am not an expert on the carnivorous plants but have them in a floating pot in my pond and they are doing fantastic. Thank you for sharing your gardening skills with us.
Nothing better to start my day than a cup of coffee and Laura’s sweet sounding voice and great smile. Loved this video and would love this in my patio area. I am almost 80 and admire small ponds and the sound of water I think this is something I might be able to do. Thank you.
I'm really liking the videography and editing in the sections where the music is playing. I also like the, sorta, blurring effect that's being created. As well, the music selections for these have been very nice. Great editing and content.
I would love to have a pond/ water feature in my garden, but was always afraid of maintenance/upkeep. I think something like this might be up my alley/something I can handle. Thanks for sharing this.😊😊
I have a small deck, and I've been wanting something "different" to put out there to enjoy. This hits the spot with me and would be perfect, I think. I may just treat myself and give it a go. Thanks for sharing, Laura!
I have a patio pond on our covered porch and love it! I surround it every summer with my house plants, It's a 55 gal. round container that I added a fountain in along with a few rocks from our creek, I added sand in the bottom and a trio of Marimo moss balls. I also have Hymenocallis-spider lilies, marsh ferns, and creeping jenny planted in semi submerged pots, along with bamboo and some cuttings from several house plants (Brazil philodendron, Syngonium podophyllum, and marble queen pothos). They root really nicely in there as well as help clean the water for the 3 goldfish (common comets) which have done really well year round outside. I'm sure you all will enjoy your new water feature!
A year ago I built a pond in our closed in porch. It is 8ft x 9 1/2ft x 3 1/2ft deep. In it I put plants, rosey minnows, gold fish, and koi. The koi are determined to rip out the plants so I have to keep replanting them. I had a real hard learning curve to keep the koi alive and I lost many. When I started my koi where 3-4 inches and now most are over 10 inches. My wife Ann and our 2 Sons like to stand out on the porch with me and just enjoy watching the fish. They pick on me about fish fry Friday. No one is eating my fish.
This is a wonderful alternative for those of us who either don’t have the space or time to have a pond and don’t want to commit to an expensive fountain. I could imagine it on an apartment deck or tucked into a bed near a patio. I think it would be best enjoyed in the evening given the light and soft flow of water.
I wonder if you could use Baby Tut for this water feature. I think it’s kind of a semi-aquatic plant; I love its texture and I think it may look lovely. I love your channel and look forward to watching your video every morning. In case you don’t have a video any day, I’ll just rewatch those I already watched, always enjoyable. Thanks for making them. 😘😘😘

Love aquascape! We put in a pond 2 years ago and used their kit for our waterfall, skimmer, and liner. One of my favorite pond plants is forget me nots. They love moving water from the waterfall, and they have dainty blue blooms all summer! Ours are still going strong!
You’re right! We also have creeping Jenny and it has done really well. Last year we had some water celery that liked to climb up our waterfall. It was pretty and did well, but we replaced it with forget me nots because I wanted the pretty little blooms. All are great choices!😊
You make EVERYTHING look/seem so EASY which helps me and i am sure so many others agree, to get out there and do something whether large projects or small. I did this year...it has turned into a complete failure ---i never knew petunias and geraniums could fry from the heat...they were watered but their blooms literally fried in one day of 35C and i don't understand but hey the sweet potato vine took it like a champ. Such a beast..Love your entire family
Your favorite kind of compliment. After watching your video this morning a video popped up from "How's It Growing". I know your favorite thing is to inspire us. You inspired How's It Growing and she does shout outs to you a lot. I thought it was really cool to see one of the ripples in your wake of inspiration.
After I saw you unbox the pond in your mail video, I ordered myself one from Amazon. I also follow the Pond guy on TH-cam. But I didn’t realize that they made a mini pond. I live in an apartment complex and only have a small concrete patio but it fits in well. I will post photos to Instagram and then tag you and the Pond guy so you can see it. Thank you for sharing.
That's really nice! I love that it has a light too. Wish it was powered by solar or USB cable. I have 2 water fountains in my garden, and both are powered with a USB power bank. On a full charge, they run for 16 hours. I have four power banks. 2 are charging while the other 2 are providing me with relaxing sound of water. I switch them out and have water flow all day and night.
Mia’s Mommee Hi, I purchased the fountains years ago from a local garden shop, but they came with electrical pumps. Unfortunately I don’t have any outdoor electricity. Instead, I purchased 2 fish tank pumps that are charged by USB cable, which can connect to a USB charger and/or USB power bank. The type that you charge and take with you when you travel to power your phone or computer. The USB pumps and power banks were purchased from amazon. Once the power bank is charged, I connect it to the pump, and it runs 14-16 hours depending on the size of your fountain and the amount of water it has to pump through. Hope this helps.
Every day! That one is here. My day starts around mid day as I am a night person. My bed time is usually about 3-4 am. Then sleep till sometime around noon. I love the pond water feature. It's lovely. TFS! Have a safe one.
I do love water features. And Aquascape always comes through with the extras. They always know the little touches to make it extra special, like the light. About time Laura starts her water plant obsession. I do love water plants.
I just want to add that I really appreciate that you consistently live up to the name of your channel. “Garden Answer” is just that - you have provided answers to so many gardening questions and so much encouragement and inspiration. This is one of many examples where you’ve shared a form of gardening that doesn’t require much in the way of budget, experience or even a yard. Welcome to the world of aquaponics! My love for gardening actually started with getting live plants for my aquariums and it just grew from there! I now have several tanks in the house and a 1500+ gallon pond outside, all with live plants. That introduced me to my love for indoor plants and now this summer, my husband and I are putting in a pretty large flower bed in the front of our house. But yeah, I just came to say be careful, its addicting! Lol. I watch your channel everyday and look forward to possible new water features on your property in the future!!
Watched this after a 60+ hour week, loved the rocks and water going backwards so much that I backed up the video several times; thanks for the creativity and pleasant beginning to the weekend! You guys are the best.
I took my children down to Andrews a few days ago and we were delighted to see this in person! They thought it was so awesome! Especially after seeing it in your video first! 💧 🌱
First of all I want to say, I start each day with a cup of coffee and your videos. They have been especially wonderful during this time of limited exposure to family and friends. Sharing yourself and family in a genuine way brings joy to my day. Thank you❤ Really great video i love the water garden! It turned out beautifully. I am in Wisconsin and we have a huge potted indoor peace Lilly that could probably benefit from being divided. I am thinking a water garden would be a wonderful use for A slip or two.
Coffee with Laura is the best way to start the day for sure. What a fun gift and interesting to see it put together and working. Thank you for sharing!!
Watching Garden Answer has become a habit. I’m even checking in from work (when appropriate). Thank you for the company and providing a positive and pleasant note to my days. Stay safe. 👏
Aside from being a novice gardener, I'm also a novice aquarist with a planted betta sorority aquarium. Good choice on the plants! Java ferns prefer for their base to not be submerged in substrate, so you can tie them down with string. Fluval stratum is a great aquatic substrate because it maintains a fairly low pH. For reference, my tap water is normally very hard and a pH of 8 and added to the aquarium with Fluval Stratum, it goes right down to 6.7. If you want your plants to really thrive and push growth, you can add aquatic plant fertilizer along with a CO2 booster (can find both at Petco) and watch a ton of growth happen quickly! I would love to try this in my yard.
Hi Laura. I have the larger patio pond. Banana plants and the baby and prince tuts do very well in the ponds. I also use fabric pond pot liners from aqua pond to put soil rooted plants in my pond. Works great.
That is excellent! I might have to setup one of those water gardens outside for the birds. They prefer running water and that would be perfect! Thank you, Laura!
I absolutely love this! You always manage to bring a little “whimsical” look into your arrangements, verses them being tight and even. It makes them so fun to look at in my opinion! Question: my MIL has a very large peace lily and recently it’s starting to look very sad. The leaves are starting to droop and it *looks* like it’s been over watered. But I’m thinking it may be from another cause now since you’re saying they do fine in boggy situations. Any ideas?
Hi Laura! That fountain turned out pretty after you added your touches to it. It's way too expensive for me. Plus, I don't have a place to plug it in outside and it's too big for inside. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Laura, thanks for this video. This is something I would definitely love to have on my living room table. My living room carries a type beach-relaxed vacation vibes with type minimal furnishings so this would absolutely top it off. No matter what was in my living room though...I just bought it on amazon from Aquascape. I also found water plants on Facebook Marketplace that I’ll buy to put in my mini pond. Yeaaaaaaay 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 My husband do Marketplace quite often so we know all involved. I don’t usually do this but once in a while I’ll splurge wisely cause I was trying to do a succulents container for my living room center piece but the container was too small, so I placed it somewhere else, but, this will work. Thanks Laura.😁👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Simple and elegant! I've seen few makes of these, which were quite much more full of plants and stuff. I'd totally want one on my balcony for summer, if my dog would let it be.
I love that setup, so pleasing to the ear and eyes. It's a little pricey for me. I will have to save up a while to get one of those. Everything is out of sight though when it comes to our budget. We are retired and on a fixed income and just have to watch for the stuff we really want. lol My problem is, my gardening is way more expensive now since I have time to do it. lol Stay well, stay safe.
Love the result and the editing! Reversing the washing if the stones was fun! U just taught me that i am underwatering my peace lily! Thanks for enriching our lives!!
Last night as I watched your sweet mail time video, this popped in my mind and wondered if you had set this up. It looks lovely in the dark with the light on. Curious to see how the plants do. Thank you for the video. 😊
This looks like a super simple setup. Not a ton of parts you have to worry about getting clogged or cleaning! I love the addition of the plants! So pretty!
Hi Laura, Anubias have rhizomes that cant be buried in substrate otherwise it would rot and die, usually its roots is only submersed in the substrate or attached to a piece of drift wood under water where it can stick itself
Love the water garden. Although, I think the power cord should come up out of the back of the feature instead of the side (there are guided groves and a gap for this on the top section). I might be wrong but thought I would just highlight just in case. Love your videos. x
Fluval stratum substrate is a great choice for this project but if you ever want to add more semi aquatic plants or fully aquatic plants I would look into a live substrate like something from caribsea. I really enjoyed watching this project and I love the layout and I can’t wait to see it in future videos.
I would also recommend an aquatic fertilizer for your anubias nana petite and other submersed plants edit: (also make sure not to have the anubius nana petite ryizome under the rocks
Hi Laura..off topic from this video but would you consider doing a video highlighting all the trees on your property and/or just a list of your favorite types of trees with pros and cons for each? I have been trying to do research on different types of trees I'd like to plant on my property but there are so many different species and varieties that I get overwhelmed with it all. Planting a tree is a major decision for me as I expect most of them to outlive me so I want to make a good choice.
Great idea for my porch. I also love your trellis in the background!! 💕 have you done a video on those? If not I’d love to know what you used and have planted so I could do the same things in my spot. 🥰 Have a great weekend
Looks great! The thin stemmed, lanky type ones can be cut back as needed and the cuttings stuck into the rocks to grow additional plants. Also, you may end up needing fertilizer for the plants, especially without fish in there to generate some for you. Easy Green from Aquarium Co-op is the best, in my opinion, and super simple to use: one pump per 10 gallons in your aquarium, etc.
I have been waiting for this video. I am a big fan of Aquascape and The Pond Guy!! I am hoping you will collaborate with them on a water feature on your new property.🌿💧 go together.
Laura, what a great project! The video production was perfect. Love the addition of humor. Now, to finally have that garden pond that I have always wanted. You've inspired me to get cracking on that.
Love this so much! We have a water feature in our front flower bed and we plan to eventually do a pond style water feature off of our patio. Love the sound of trickling water.
I really like this water feature and the fact that you can enjoy it in the evening is nice too! I may have to purchase one after we move and are all set up. Thanks for sharing!
Laura and Aaron, your videos are fantastic! I love the videos when you venture out from regular gardening as you give us great unique ideas. I would love more videos on indoor plants as well. You are doing a fantastic job! Thank you!
Aaron you do a fabulous job on filming and editing. Together the two of you make such a great team. Keep on keepin on and God bless you and give you strength!
Laura, I don’t have a big enough deck for the fountain to sit on. Can it be set in a depression in a flower bed to make it look a bit more natural? Love the idea of moving water.
Always fun to try something new and different! I have been wanting to try something similar to this and had no idea where to start- this video make me feel like I could do it! I will be curious to see if this is difficult to maintain and keep clean. A future update video on that subject would be great! Thanks!
Who else here starts their day with Garden Answer and a cup of coffee? Laura & Aaron are such a blessing! ❤️🌱☕️

Thanks Laura.😁👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Oh I love it. It looks so peaceful and the light for nights is awesome 👌 ✨
Simple and elegant! I've seen few makes of these, which were quite much more full of plants and stuff. I'd totally want one on my balcony for summer, if my dog would let it be.
I love that! It looks so easy to set up and like you said, no splashing = perfect for indoors! It’s beautiful! 🤩
Love to see you trying something outside of your comfort zone! It's not easy! 👍😊
Tea and toast for me😁. I need one like this to muffle the traffic noise where l live. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Laura , Aaron and Benjamin , you guys are part of our family 👪 here too. Love from Ohio
I just bought the same little fountain today as a "starter" fountain. I'm happy to find this video to see how you plant it up.
Love the result and the editing! Reversing the washing if the stones was fun! U just taught me that i am underwatering my peace lily! Thanks for enriching our lives!!
I love Bianca’s suggestion of a bloopers video. Aaron could have a blast editing that one!
Sweet little fountain garden ❤️ Loved the editing of the rocks falling into colander! Very cool! And had to laugh at the ❌! 😂👍🏻
Me too, so funny. Love those edits.
I start my day with Garden Answer and a cup of coffee too.
So pretty!
Hi Laura! you should put two goldfish in it. that would be great for Benjamin! So fun!
Hi Laura, Anubias have rhizomes that cant be buried in substrate otherwise it would rot and die, usually its roots is only submersed in the substrate or attached to a piece of drift wood under water where it can stick itself
The container is just gorgous. I thought it looked Cooper....but how fun and absolutely just stunning the plastic material turned out.
The bamboo plant is such a great idea!!
What a nice lady , honest and focused
Have a great weekend
Looks great! The thin stemmed, lanky type ones can be cut back as needed and the cuttings stuck into the rocks to grow additional plants. Also, you may end up needing fertilizer for the plants, especially without fish in there to generate some for you. Easy Green from Aquarium Co-op is the best, in my opinion, and super simple to use: one pump per 10 gallons in your aquarium, etc.
I watch everyday with my coffee too! Got love it! Thank you Aquascape!
Love that waterfall, just the size to move indoors or out.
I have been waiting for this video. I am a big fan of Aquascape and The Pond Guy!! I am hoping you will collaborate with them on a water feature on your new property.🌿💧 go together.
Hey y'all, good morning!!
Laura, what a great project! The video production was perfect. Love the addition of humor. Now, to finally have that garden pond that I have always wanted. You've inspired me to get cracking on that.
I love the tiny goldenrod with the coleus and hostas. Excellent combination!
Love this so much! We have a water feature in our front flower bed and we plan to eventually do a pond style water feature off of our patio. Love the sound of trickling water.
Great editing. Very peaceful water garden.
Thank you!
Please get an aqua scape pond on your new property! I would love to see you work with more water plants.
Aaron you do a fabulous job on filming and editing. Together the two of you make such a great team. Keep on keepin on and God bless you and give you strength!
This is one of the nicest little ponds I have seen and I love the use of the peace lily in it.
what a great container for a small space and want water and plants very pretty. great job
This turned out really well. I was sceptical about a plastic pond, but it is really beautiful with your touch!
I loved seeing this put together! Nice change of pace! Where are you going to display it?
I want one. I love it. I will put on my husband's list for a birthday or Christmas gift. Thanks for sharing .
I love it!!!! This would be great on my patio(it's covered). Because this is small the upkeep would be minimal. Love it!!🌸🌷🌺
Laura, I don’t have a big enough deck for the fountain to sit on. Can it be set in a depression in a flower bed to make it look a bit more natural? Love the idea of moving water.
Hi Garden answer It looks lovely maybe a couple of goldfishes. thank you for sharing
I put in 2 red minnows.
Lovely water garden Laura, where are you thinking of putting it in your beautiful garden?
Always fun to try something new and different! I have been wanting to try something similar to this and had no idea where to start- this video make me feel like I could do it! I will be curious to see if this is difficult to maintain and keep clean. A future update video on that subject would be great! Thanks!
Once again you prove how talented you are. Just love it. Have a wonderful day.
