  • Received a Lockwood 226 with a shackle that wouldn't lock into place when pushed on. In that condition it was basically a paper weight so nothing was lost if i took it apart to see what the problem was. It was all new to me but i learned a few things along the way which i was unaware of. I will let the video explain what i learned along the way.

    Great video mate. It is always interesting to see how old locks work and just how much better older locks were made. Thank you for sharing 👍🇦🇺😊

      Thanks Butchers. Yeah, it was all new to me seeing how this old girl functioned. You're right about the quality back then. Simplistic and quality material:-)

      Thanks mate. She's definately an old classic. They are still out the on the Flea Bay down under. I have seen a few pristine examples out there for sale but they are a bit pricey. But at the end of the day, if someone's prepared to pay the price good luck to the seller. Donz Lockz has these older versions in NOS boxes. Hopefully one day he'll put a video out show casing his hoard:-)

    A very interesting deconstruction of the laminated padlock. So the different sizes have different numbers. I will have to check the sizes of the three I have so i know what numbers to call them. That catalog you have is a gem.Great information in that. Wouldn't mind finding a copy of one. Thanks for this video, cheers

      Thanks Wes. Yeah, she's been around for 50 yrs plus. It is a quality laminate padlock. The new product made today won't stand the test of time like the ol' Lockwood. Albeit having a broken spring:-)

    Those key definitions is one reason I was after the catalog. And Funkey has an AR or ER key. Check one of his recent videos on Lockwood keys. It shows up there. First time I'd seen one.

      @@crankylock7844 BTW, you know the Lockwood padlock with the cursive US Lockwood logo in a circle you sometimes see? I now have a strong suspicion that they may have been a 50 year anniversary edition padlock. But I'd need to find a catalog from 1984 to confirm that.

    Hi Paul, Six pin reverse? I guess reserved for master key systems, a newie for me. Saw many "standard" 6 pin master key systems back in the early days, in fact Chryslers at Tonsley and Lonsdale was on "standard" 6 pin master key system until we changed them. Knew of the six pin reverse key, but never saw them in use - I don't think we even stocked them in those days. Regards, Brian.

      Hi Brian, it's great to finally know what the embossed letters on the backs of some bows mean. I have a few "S R"s but have never seen an "A R".

      @crankylock7844  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Brian. I have yet to come across one in my travels. Sounds like the Tonsley Pk job would have kept you occupied for a while. It was a huge plant. I am assuming you had control of the system up until its final demise? I think their fatal move was the 380 Mitz while keeping the FWD on that vehicle. Couldn't make that dent in the market with the RWD being the drug of choice with the Aussie motorist. Just a theory. lol. Thanks Brian:-)

    Cool to see how these old padlocks work. I've got a few of these that I've impressioned keys for them. Sent PW one for her collection.
    I think i seen that catalog on the old fleabays a while back.
    Would you be able to get some photocopies of the catalog?
    I think i have one of those rare Lockwood keys you are talking about, but it's got the large bow LW5R.

    It looks like the actuator spring has been dislodged. I think you can work it out by looking at the top 2 or 3 plates as they are held together. Place them upside down and look down at it to see what the spring should be held against. Then take the core and place it on top of that with the actuator end down, of course, and try rotating it to see what happens.

    • @crankylock7844
      @crankylock7844  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it was dislodged. It was over ridden into the unsprung position. Had to re bend and re position:-)
